Publisher's Review
The final winner is decided 100% by children's readers' choice!
The 1st Wisdom House Fantasy Literature Award Children's Category Excellence Award Winner, "Companion Monster ① Cheonjam"
A change of thinking from a pet to a 'companion monster'!

A world of bizarre and fantastic companion monsters!

The first Wisdom House Fantasy Literature Award Children's Category Excellence Award winner, Kim Young-joo's 『Companion Monster ① Cheonjam』, has been published.
This work, along with the grand prize winner 『Infected Animal』, was chosen by a 100% child jury and has been proven to be fun and meaningful.

This work is a new fantasy fairy tale about monsters presented by an author who has been actively writing fairy tales and novels for young adults.
The author researched materials about Korean monsters and brought ghosts, monsters, and gods into the work as characters.
And by changing the concept of 'companion monsters' rather than 'pets', it unfolds into a story where humans and monsters become each other's companions.
This work stands out for its unique and creative story, unique to the author.

The fantasy space of the world of monsters is filled with splendid colors, with the addition of Bamko's paintings that visualize the author's imagination.
The artist's unique wit and humor create a fun and entertaining character and situation, drawing a world of fantastic monsters never seen before.
Based on our country's legends and old tales, it is beautifully expressed as familiar yet strange yet endearing monsters such as shadow monsters that resemble prime ministers and will-o'-the-wisp.
The seemingly coincidental but inevitable meeting between the writer and the painter completes the world of lovely monsters.

Paying attention to small lives
A fairy tale that highlights the delicate heart of a child!

Joo-hee envies her quiet personality compared to that of her popular and lively twin sister, Se-hee, and tries to fit in with her friends by dancing to a dance she doesn't like.

A child who puts aside his own feelings and cares more about the feelings of others.
However, as he enters the path of the monsters, he meets the flower garden old man and is led by the little girl's hand to meet various monsters, such as a bamboo barrel monster, bean soldiers, a wooden horse, and a group of small turtles.
Joo-hee begins to change little by little as she brings home the blue egg in the silver cage she last saw.
He carefully cares for the blue egg, adjusting the temperature and humidity to match the environment in the monster world, and tells it his story.
The blue egg, which grew up eating that story, wakes up as a healthy silkworm as if to repay Joohee.
Joohee tells the silkworm her thoughts and feelings, which she had never told anyone else, and only then does she begin to look into her own heart.
In fact, Joohee is a caring child who cares for small lives, such as tending the flower garden in her apartment complex and the small flower garden behind the school recycling center, and taking care of stray cats.
And through talking to the monster, he realizes that he loves and is proud of himself more than anyone else.

『Companion Monster ① Cheonjam』 shows the process of Joohee meeting a monster and finding comfort in each other as they become each other's companions, becoming each other's best friends, and finding their own identity.

A companion monster cart keeper who pulls a yellow cart!
A new transformation of Hallakgung and Magohalmi from an old tale!

『Companion Monster ① Cheonjam』 is a strange fantasy fairy tale that mysteriously mixes old and modern stories.
In particular, the setting of a companion monster cart keeper will likely feel unfamiliar to readers today.
But as you read the story, you'll quickly find yourself drawn to the bizarre and lovable monsters and the lovable but lovable cart driver.

Today and Tomorrow, who pull the companion yokai cart, are independent cat yokai and gods who do not wait for a companion, and the cart drivers are the flower bed grandfather and the little yokai, new characters borrowed from characters in old tales.
The flower garden grandfather described Hallakgungi, who is the flower supervisor in charge of the Seocheon flower garden in our folktales, and the little boy described Magohalmi, who is called the creator goddess in our mythology.

The author brought Hallakgungi and Magohalmi into a fantasy world so that readers can understand them today, recreating them as 'companion monster cart keepers'.
After reading the work, it would be fun to compare the true appearances of Hallakgungi and Magohalmi, who appear in old tales, with the companion monster, the cart-keeper.
And after reading the work, the more you see the bizarre monsters and the more charming the cart driver will feel, the more relatable he will become.
