A new work by author Lee Ji-eum!

The moment a child enters elementary school, he or she is presented with a formidable challenge.
As we complete these tasks one by one, the child's body, mind, and sociality will grow, and this is what we call 'growth.'
“Now that I’m in elementary school, I have to do things on my own” is increasing one by one, and even if I want to run around outside and play, I have to sit at my desk and concentrate when it’s time, and even if I want to cry, I have to know how to hold it in sometimes.
These tasks can sometimes be burdensome for children, and they often express their 'refusal to go to school' in various ways.
In these situations, most parents and teachers respond by soothing or scolding the children, but in fact, many problems can be solved simply by understanding the feelings of children who do not want to go to school.

Lee Ji-eum, the author of the Golden Toad Award-winning novel Gangnam Boss, has released her new novel, "Listen to My Worries, Doctor Byeolnyang," which delicately embraces the hearts of children who, for various reasons, "don't want to go to school."
This book is a fantasy fairy tale that helps children understand and care for their hearts through the imaginary space called 'The Strange Infirmary' and the characters of Dr. Byeolnyang and Nurse Nyongnyong.
The first book in the series, published this time, contains the concerns of ordinary children around us who do not want to go to school because they ‘want to do better’, ‘it is difficult to stay still’, or ‘they are afraid of being teased as crybabies’.
It takes a serious look at the small but not-so-small concerns of children and delivers the lesson that the most important thing is to 'take care of yourself' in a fun way.

Into the book
The next day, Bomi had a slight stomachache since morning.
My stomach hurt, so I walked around the school wall, wondering if I really had to go to school.
Today, too, I might hear Mr. Ppoong's 'cannon fart' because of my shoelaces.
Bomi felt like her stomach was tightening.

That was then.
I saw graffiti on the wall next to the back door.
Bomi went closer, crouched down, and looked closely.

Dr. Byeolnyang's Odd Infirmary
“If you have a stomachache or a headache,
When you cut your finger or have a problem that you can't express
A place to go secretly.
Dr. Byeolnyang's quirky infirmary!!
--- p.11~12

Ah, the thoughts that Bom had in her mind became real sounds and came out of the speakers.
Nurse Nyongnyong laughed heartily.
Dr. Byeolnyang opened his eyes.
And this sound came out of the speaker.
“Actually, it’s not that I don’t want to go to school, it’s that I want to be a kid who can do everything well on his own.”
--- p.29

“If you lie down like that at school, you’ll get in trouble.
You should sit upright in your chair with your back straight.
Like this.
“All day long.”
Junseo said, sitting up straight.

"What? All day? I have to sit still with my back straight. That, that's just awful!"
--- p.57

The bandage around Damhee's little finger gradually became wider and higher, and a huge strawberry-shaped bandage was completed.
The bandage was so big that I had to support it with my other hand.
“Wow, it’s pretty.”
Damhee was proud of her strawberry bandage.

--- p.105

Children, is life worth living?
Life isn't easy for children or cats.

I used to try really hard to be a 'better cat'.
As I was thinking about it, my stomach hurt, my head hurt, my fingers were twitching, I couldn't sleep, and my heart was aching.
So now I'm trying to be a 'cat that takes care of itself' rather than a 'better cat'.
