Publisher's Review
A twelve-year-old girl grows a tail.

On the morning of New Year's Day, when she turns twelve, a strange change occurs in Mio's body.
A 'tail' with fluffy white hair has grown.
Mio, who was going from hospital to hospital thinking she had a serious illness, received a document from the country that said, "You have been diagnosed as type N2 (monster), so transfer to the monster school."
Mio, who has lived her life believing that things like gumiho and werewolves are fictions that only exist in books and movies, is sent to a boarding school teeming with strange beings that alternate between human and beast, without the leisure to truly understand and accept that such a world actually exists, or even that she herself is a monster.
As befitting a school for monsters, not only is the school building and the curriculum completely different from the human world, but even the way students who misbehave are punished and the location of the school gates are beyond imagination.

For example, a werewolf who was caught causing a disturbance last semester was turned into a dartboard and hung on the wall for a week.
Since no one knew that the dartboard hanging in the hallway was his friend's, anyone passing by could randomly slam dart pins into it.
Although I didn't really feel any pain because I was turned into an object, the fear was immense.

Students at Monster School, who live in dormitories, are not allowed to leave the school grounds until the summer break.
During the semester, students didn't even know where the school gate was.

For Mio, who had lived within the common sense of the human world for over ten years, transferring to a monster school was nothing short of a disaster.
Mio, who had always been praised for her schoolwork, looks, and personality, is now treated as a lackluster student who “can’t even hide her little tail.”
It was humiliating to be a poor student, but Mio, who wanted to deny the fact that she was a monster, had even less desire to be recognized as a "superior monster."
In this unfamiliar situation, which is bound to be painful in every way, what makes Mio suffer the most is her longing for her boyfriend, Suho, whom she left behind in the human world.
But I have no intention of ever coming before Suho until I can hide my ugly tail.

To Mio, who has the goal of hiding her tail and going to meet her boyfriend, her roommate Jea informs her that in order to hide her tail, she must be able to move it freely, and to do that, she must first start by 'recognizing that this is also a part of my body.'
From the irony of having to accept her tail as a part of herself in order to hide the culprit that turned her into a monster, in other words, having to admit that she is a monster, Mio is able to face the world she must live in from now on.

◆ Adapting to school life with a bizarre monster

Apart from this change in Mio's attitude, Mio had already manifested as a monster and was showing the appearance of a monster.
When he fights with Jea and his anger explodes, his appearance changes and he no longer needs a flashlight in the dark.

Not a single light was visible in the classroom.
Even the moonlight was hidden behind the clouds and could not illuminate the children.
But the view wasn't dark at all.
That was proof that Mio was now a true monster.

Additionally, Mio is forced to develop her abilities as a monster, including learning the art of transformation, while planning an escape from school to meet Suho.
Mio has no choice but to become even more of a monster because of her longing for the human world where she has her family and friends, and because of her own 'humanity' that she absolutely does not want to lose.
Monster School classifies students into several ranks based on their abilities, from the lowest rank, 5th, to the highest rank, S.
Among them, the S-class, the object of every student's desire, can freely summon the school gate that disappears during the semester, so going out of school is not a problem.
Mio, who used to wear a 5th-grade badge and shout "I'm not a monster!", now begins to burn with determination to become the highest grade in the monster school.
Of course, the trigger was born from extremely human feelings towards her boyfriend.

This effort was possible thanks to the help of her monster school roommates, Jea and Soso.
Unlike Mio, who is a gumiho, Jea is a vampire, and Soso is a spider-human, they are all different, but they all have one thing in common: they are all loners.
Jea was born a half-blood with human blood and grew up as an outcast in a noble vampire family, while Soso was a child who lived an isolated life, not interested in anything other than botany.
The children, who had been sharing a room but had not been able to get along for a while, become friends, worry about Mio's problems together, and solve problems by using their own abilities and wisdom.
『Monster School MS - The Nine-Tailed Fox Transfer Student』 is a story centered around Mio's longing for her boyfriend, Suho, and her strong will, and filled with the friendship and growth of three friends.
Perhaps what draws us into the stories of these wild and bizarre monsters is the empathy we have for their friendship, which shines brightly and exerts its power even in the most dire of circumstances.
Even Mio, who was still afraid and unfamiliar with the world of monsters, was able to endure with that strength.

Friends are truly a curious thing.
Although the school full of monsters was still so horrible and disgusting, Mio no longer cried after making friends.
When she felt like crying, Jea and Soso, who were lying in the same bed, patted Mio's shoulder.

Mio also receives help from her friend Jea when learning the basic monster technique of transformation.
In this scene, which introduces how a monster changes its form, the process is described in such a unique and detailed way that it feels like we too could transform if we followed suit.

Mio nodded and focused her mind.
Transforming my appearance was like loosening a tight belt.
Of course, since the belt is not visible, it required some tricks.
I visualized the power surrounding my body as a belt in my head, and as I carefully unbuckled the belt one notch at a time, a refreshing breeze entered deep into my body.
As the wind tickled Mio's fingers and toes, she felt her body's balance shift.

◆ Encountering the Secrets of Monster School - In Search of Suho

Mio manages to escape the school for a while, but fails to meet Suho.
There is no trace of Suho left, and no one remembers him.
Shortly before escaping from school, Mio received a mysterious object (a round, blue piece) that was undoubtedly sent by Suho.
I couldn't tell what it was, but it was clear that something had happened to Suho.
Now Mio has something to do.
Finding out the whereabouts of your boyfriend and why he disappeared.
Of course, this work is also accomplished with the help of two friends, Jea and Soso.
Here, senior Prin, a werewolf, joins in, raising all sorts of suspicions and alleging corruption at the school.
As they try to find Suho's whereabouts, they gradually get closer to uncovering the secrets of the Monster School.
Could Suho's disappearance have something to do with school?

Mio, who used to cry because she missed Suho, is now ready to face unknown dangers to save her boyfriend.
The reason why this change was possible is because she has precious friends who take off their shoes and give their all as if it were their own work, and also because Mio herself is growing rapidly into a proper monster and a strong gumiho.

More stories about Mio and her friends' journey to find Suho, hidden facts about the school, and other characters and unique creatures can be found in the book.
The descriptions of the bizarre and unusual structure of the monster school building, which has no blueprints, and the strange devices that appear throughout the building also stimulate the imagination.
How far will Mio grow, what is the true nature of the opponent they will face, and what are the stories of the other characters…
It is a work that makes you imagine and look forward to the next story.
