Publisher's Review
“The sky has become dark.
Now I believe in the stars.
“The stars will take us to tomorrow.”
Singing softly like a lullaby before going to sleep
Meet Kitty Crowder's "Night Tales"!
One day, Sarah Donati, a friend of author Kitty Crowder, had a dream.
The author had a dream of writing a book titled 'Night Story' with a pink cover.
This is how "Night Tales" came to author Kitty Crowder.
The story featuring a pink color and a bear as the main character was something the author had been thinking about for a long time.
Author Kitty Crowder tells three heartwarming stories, like a mother bear singing a gentle lullaby to her baby bear.
First story
The Night Grandmother's Tale of Telling You It's Time to Go to Bed
Deep in the forest lives the Night Grandmother who guards the night.
Every night before the moon rises, Grandmother Night rings a gong and shouts, “It’s time to go to bed! It’s time for everyone to go to bed!”
Grandma skillfully leads the forest friends who want to play more to bed.
Finally, everyone falls asleep and it is Grandma Night's turn to follow the stars in the sky.
But who will tell Grandma Night when it's time to go to bed?
Second story
The story of the little girl with the red hat who got lost in the forest
A berry picking festival is held in the village.
Sora, wearing a red polka-dotted hat reminiscent of the fairy from Swedish author Elsa Veskov's "Little Forest Children," goes to a lake to find the most beautiful blackberries in the forest, but gets lost on her way home.
Sora wanders through the forest and ends up spending the night at the house of the bat Yako Mollo.
Early in the morning, Sora hears her family calling for her, but she doesn't want to wake up from her sweet sleep.
Will Sora be able to return home safely?
Third story
The story of the sleepless uncle
Uncle Boo, who never takes off his thick winter coat, trades his silver watch for an owl's nest.
But even if I lie down in an owl's nest full of feathers, I cannot sleep.
Uncle Boo goes into the forest in search of lost sleep and meets his friend Otto.
The man puts on his coat and goes into the water to swim, following the advice of his worried friend.
Did Uncle Bu, who came out of the water to find the stone that Otto had written a poem on and thrown into the sea, find his lost sleep?
“Kitty, your drawings always make me smile.
“Mom is proud of your drawings.”
Author Kitty Crowder was born deaf and was unable to speak until she was four.
He pointed to the pictures in the book to let me know that he understood what was being said, and he always read the book.
Books were a window to understanding the world and a great comfort.
I was lonely and thought I would never be happy, but my hearing loss made me observe the world more closely and see beyond what I can see.
The questions 'Why? How?' have become a source of imagination and creativity.
From my mother I learned to love the night, the sea, and the storm, and from my grandparents I learned that every story has a melody.
By transferring onto paper the forests, trees, moss, wind, and whispers of water that he loved, he discovered that drawing was the unique voice he could express.
I paint for my own joy, with a heart-pounding impulse and excitement, in nature, which comforts and heals humans.
Now I believe in the stars.
