The full-length fairy tale 『Pings』 by Lee Yu-ri, winner of the 6th Story King hosted by Biryongso in 2018, has been published.
Story King, the first literary award in Korea to introduce a "children's jury system," is a literary award directly selected by 100 children. It was created with the aim of actively exploring the intersection between readers' interests and the author's narrative.
By producing works such as the first 『Twenty Questions Detective and Magician』, the second 『The Cheeky Boy's Cheeky Training』, the third 『Ratpost Style』, the fourth 『Atomix』, and the fifth 『Clone Human Yun Bong-gu』, it not only diversified the genre but also firmly established itself as a success story of a new paradigm that revitalized the stagnant children's literature world.
The final winner in 2018 was decided as "Pings," with the scores from the expert jury and 100 children each contributing 50%.

"Pings" is an amazing science fiction fairy tale that instantly expands children's horizons to the universe, depicting an adventure that unfolds on the strange and beautiful planet Pings, unknown to Earth.
The story of Jaei, who goes on his first space travel in his life, encountering the vicious space criminal Schell and being swept up in an unexpected storm, not only shows an amazing imagination of the future world, but also perfectly displays the 'deep exploration of humanity' that was considered the essence of pure literature, and was evaluated to have gone beyond the meaning of an award-winning work and enabled a leap forward in domestic science fiction fairy tales.


The judges gave it generous encouragement, saying, “It makes you wonder when you last saw a children’s literature work with such precise self-identity and unique beauty,” and “It is the most innovative work among the domestic SF fairy tales to date.”

The fairy tale "Phinx" depicts the events that unfold to protect the mysterious bird "Phinx" that acts as an excellent medicine in a future era where space travel is possible. It realistically and movingly depicts an adventure that unfolds on an unfamiliar planet in a distant universe that was never before imagined.
