'The legend of Britpop', 'The second Beatles', 'The Emperor of Britpop'.
These are all words that describe an oasis.
At the center of the Britpop that swept the 1990s was Oasis from Manchester, England.
Their 1994 debut album became the fastest-selling album of all time in the UK, and each of their seven subsequent studio albums has topped the UK Albums Chart. Sweeping awards like the MTV Europe Music Awards, the Brit Awards, and the NME Awards, they established themselves as more than just a band, but a cultural phenomenon.

And in 2024, after a long wait, news was delivered that thrilled fans around the world.
After 15 years since their 2009 breakup, Oasis' reunion is finally a reality.
The name Oasis has become a thing of the past, and their time has come again.

Along with this historic news, photos documenting Oasis's most passionate and intense early days were released to the world.
Before their myth began, this is the journey of the birth of the oasis, captured by world-renowned photographer Kevin Cummins.
This book is a visual archive of the rawest moments he recorded during the beginning of Oasis, and the first tracks of Oasis that can never be reproduced.

From the stage where they shared a breath with fans in a small venue that is hard to imagine now, to the unpredictable events backstage, to the innocent appearance of Noel and Liam who were passionate about music and football, these moments from the purest, most honest, and passionate times in Oasis' history vividly prove how Oasis' music and band identity were created.

Kevin Cummins' photographs were a crucial element in creating an image that went beyond mere documentation to become an iconic symbol of the oasis.
A free-spirited, wild, rebellious and unpredictable band of Manchester City diehard fans.
This book contains the foundation that made Oasis into an 'oasis' and the story of the most important times that led to Oasis becoming what it is today.

Notably, over 75% of the entire album consists of previously unreleased photos, and is accompanied by essays, interviews, and commentary written by Noel Gallagher himself.
This record, which allows fans to meet Noel in his 20s and Noel now, 30 years later, simultaneously, will fully convey the band's time gone by and their sincerity towards music to Oasis fans.

Owning [Oasis The Masterplan] is a meaningful experience that preserves the origins of a band that defined an era and the true face of Oasis.
With the world talking about Oasis again, this is the one photo book that, in Noel Gallagher's words, "any Oasis fan must own."

Into the book
* All photos in this book were taken on film.
Sometimes, the color is uneven because of different developing methods or poor storage temperature.
The band photos on pages 22-23 are damaged because they are clip tests.
But I wanted to write about it because it was the only color photo left from that session.
I felt that removing the damage with Photoshop would diminish the authenticity, so I included the damaged version in the book.

---From "Opening Remarks" by Kevin Cummins

* They brought nothing with them except the clothes they were wearing.
Liam arrived wearing a brightly colored raincoat, a school uniform-style jumper, and Adidas tracksuit pants.
In my opinion, a close-up would be the best way to showcase this band.
At that time, Liam's face was like an angel.
It was a face that fit perfectly into the British music magazine market.
As expected, it turned out as expected.

---From "Main Text, Kevin Cummins"

* There is a coexistence of sadness and celebration in Cummins' photos.
And then there's art.
This is the possibility of life recorded over a year, and this is the power of photography… Cummins takes us on an adventure through symbolic time in this book.
We know how the story ends.
I know exactly what happened in late 1994.
But this adventure and journey reminds us that no matter where you come from or who you are, we are all part of the master plan.
---From "Main Text, Gale Crowder"

* “If I were doing the art direction for an Oasis shoot, I would shoot the band without them knowing they were being filmed.
Posing is fake.
Secretly watching is the real thing.
“Only then can we see some kind of truth.”
