The place where life dwells, the swing
Description
Book Introduction
The beautiful secrets of life unfolding like a panorama

“She was always there.
A place where people meet, a place of happiness,
“It was a place full of life, stories, and dreams.”

There is a red swing on the hill overlooking the sea.
When I ride the swing here, I feel like I'm being embraced by the vast ocean and the clouds in the blue sky.
Sometimes I sit on the swing and face my friends and share secret stories.
Sometimes we dream alone, with no one to support us.
Here, you can recall the face of a loved one who used to swing on the swing, or a child who spent his or her childhood here can make new memories by swinging on the red swing with his or her child.
The red swing is always there, and today, colorful and precious lives remain on the red swing.

We call unforgettable memories and emotions experienced in special places 'memories'.
《The Swing, Where Life Stays》 captures countless fleeting moments of memories related to the swing in a single scene over 160 pages, delivering a enchanting and special feeling within.
Especially, when I look at the children in the paintings, their brilliant past, growth, and the joys and sorrows they experience as adults, my heart aches and I feel a small sense of relief in my weary life.

Britta Teckentrup's warm and delicate paintings, using collage and printmaking techniques, reveal the beauty that permeates our lives.
Just as the red swing that had been abandoned by people has regained its original form, when you stand again in the place of memories, even after forgetting the moments of growing up and being filled with tears and laughter, you will encounter the most important life in your life.
Beautiful memories with loved ones, a warm place that waits and welcomes you even as time passes, “The Swing, Where Life Stays”.

Into the book
The swing was always there, right in front of the ocean, inviting people to come and sit there. It was a place for people to mingle… and a place to spend time alone.
It was a completely happy place… After much thought,
It was a place where important decisions were made. It was where everything began… and where it ended.
It was a place full of life, stories and dreams.

--- p.6~12

It was a place full of memories.
My grandfather came here at the same time every Sunday afternoon.
I sat on the swing and swayed until the sun went down.
Once upon a time, my grandfather was with my grandmother.
It was a very long time ago.
But when I was riding the swing, it felt like my grandmother was right next to me.
Grandpa remembered Grandma's laughter.
When rolling on the swing
I also remembered my grandmother's face, who loved the wind blowing through her hair.

Whenever my grandfather rides the swing
A red-furred cat would appear and sit on the swing next to me.
As the sun began to set, Grandpa got up and stroked the cat's head.
I smiled faintly.
Then I walked home slowly.
--- p.89

One day, a man came to see her with his son.
He was a man who had seen the whole world.
Received numerous awards
He was a famous swimmer.
But now it all begins
It was time to return there.
Peter wanted to live differently from his father.
Peter gently stroked his son's head,
I started clearing the grass that covered the swing.
Peter wasn't alone.
Other people also helped as much as they could.

Publisher's Review
A place to hang out together, a place to be alone,
A happy place, a place where everything begins and ends,
Every moment of laughter and tears, the place where life dwells, the swing

There is a red swing on a hill by the blue sea.
The swing on the high hill is a children's favorite playground.
If you swing on the swing and kick your feet hard, you feel like you're flying into the sky.
Sometimes I really imagine flying into the sky.
It is a place full of adventure, a place to experience courage and freedom.
You can climb on the swing with a friend and swing your body back and forth as hard as you like, or you can swing while lying on your back if you want.

On days when I have a lot on my mind, I sit alone on the swing.
There is a vast ocean before my eyes, and when I look at the ocean so vast that I cannot see where it ends, I feel like I will soon dive into the ocean and become one with it.
After a tiring day, sitting on the swing for a while provides rest, and the small movements of the swing soothe a heavy heart.
In this way, the swing is a place for me to be alone, and a place that takes care of me.

Where does your life rest today? Is there a place, like the red swing, where you cherish a part of your life and where you can always find respite? "Where Life Stays, the Swing" colorfully portrays the lives of those who found that special place called the red swing.
Over the course of several seasons, many people have rested on the swing and sometimes fallen over.
And then I got up again and repeated it.
Filled with beautiful moments of laughter, tears, and growth in life, "The Swing Where Life Dwells" presents the wonders and comfort of life.

“Where is your swing?”
To children, friends, lovers and grandfathers too
You and I's swing filled with unforgettable, precious memories

In "The Swing, Where Life Stays," every moment of the people who stayed on the swing is the main character.
If you look at the people who stayed on the red swing, you will encounter important moments in life.
The happy childhood days when you played with friends, the moment you let your child ride on a swing for the first time, the lonely back of someone reminiscing about their beloved family, an afternoon when you enjoyed playing on a swing with your older brother as if you were playing with an airplane…
The red swing can also be a secret place to spend a special day.
It's like sharing secret stories with friends, reading books in a tent with just my grandfather, and having parties where we all get together and talk until late at night without realizing the time passing.

Even if it's not on a hill with an ocean view, there are swings everywhere we go in our daily lives.
On the way from home to school, or on the way home after school, you can always stop by the playground and sit on the swing.
When we don't feel like going home, we sit on the swing and chat away. Even after parting ways with a loved one, or after a hard day, we sit on the swing and wipe away the tear stains that fall beneath our feet with our feet.
And then, before you know it, you will find yourself feeling lighter.

“She was always there.
We invited people right in front of the sea.
“Come and sit here.” - pages 7-8

As time goes by, the places where we can feel comfortable around us are disappearing, but the swing always invites us to its place.
It is a place of unforgettable and precious memories for all of us, and a place where we can still stay for a while and share our lives.
Where is your swing today?

With 160 pages of fantastic illustrations and a text as tender as poetry.
The mind-blowing magic of Britta Teckentrup!

Britta Teckentrup uses collage and printmaking techniques to capture beautiful moments experienced in special places, as if gathering fragments of memories.
It shows not only the appearance of people riding on the swing, but also the imagination that might have occurred to you at least once while riding the swing, and the afterimage of feeling the wind and nature with your whole body while riding the swing, thereby showing another kind of joy that the swing gives.

“I sat on the swing and imagined.
He said he was in the middle of the ocean.
“Couldn’t the sea hide more secrets than the sky?” Jill thought to herself. - Page 60

Britta Teckentrup captures the pinnacle of imagination in a scene where Jill sits on a swing and imagines herself in the middle of the ocean.
As if someone were trying to tell Jill, who was curious about the secrets hidden by the sea, the bright white light and Yunseul on the sea suddenly became one, becoming a “white world with no beginning or end,” completely capturing Jill’s eyes and heart, and filling the hearts of readers with overwhelming ecstasy.
In this way, 『The Swing, Where Life Dwells』 captivates the reader with its 160 pages of enchanting illustrations, providing a moving experience that keeps you glued to your seat with every turn.

“At last, the swing was back to its former glory.” - Page 152

It was once bustling, but as time passes, it becomes covered with all kinds of weeds, and just as adults lose their childlike innocence, the swing is forgotten by people.
But just as the swing was eventually restored to its former glory by the loving hands of those around it, Britta Teckentrup offers hope that precious memories will never fade.
Even after time has passed, looking at the image of that day captured in the frame brings us back to that splendid time. This is the story of 『The Swing, Where Life Stays』, which presents us with a magical moment.
