Into the book
I created '1 Minute Science' because I felt that scientific knowledge was too important for only scientists and specialists to know.
When I first experienced the wonders of science, it was actually a bit shocking.
I thought, 'Why is no one talking about something this important?'

--- p.6

For Homo sapiens, who appeared on Earth 200,000 years ago, green paper called money and concrete buildings did not exist.
In 200,000 years, who knows what will be called 'reality'?
But whether it's 200,000 years from now or 2 billion years from now, gravity will still be there.
It seems to me more appropriate to say that something that does not change is reality than to say that something that changes without warning is reality.

--- p.8

So I learn about the reality of science.
And I believe that if people truly learned this reality, they would see the world differently.
I look forward to seeing all the people of the Earth looking up at the sky and falling into a state of ecstasy.

--- p.8

About 7,500 years ago, strange humans who could digest cow's milk even as adults began to appear.
In the cold, food-scarce Nordic regions, the ability to digest cow's milk would have been a huge evolutionary advantage, and so the mutant gene began to spread from Europe to the rest of the world.
Currently, about 80 percent of the population in Europe carries the altered gene, while in Asia and Africa, only 20 percent carry it.

--- pp.16~17

When sea squirts are larvae, they swim around in the sea, but when they grow to a certain size, they cling to rocks. When they no longer need to move, they do something strange.
It is eating one's own brain and nervous system to supplement nutrition.

--- p.36

When adenosine binds to adenosine receptors, our body feels tired.
By the way, the caffeine in coffee looks very similar to adenosine.
When we drink coffee, the caffeine that enters our body enters the adenosine receptors where adenosine should enter and binds precisely.

--- p.82

The desire to connect with other Sapiens is a powerful instinct deeply rooted in our brains. Social media has tapped into this instinct, and the brains of Sapiens worldwide have instantly embraced it.
For Sapiens, social media is an incredibly attractive lifeline.

--- pp.102~103

The DNA replication process that occurs in nature is not perfect, and all kinds of replication mistakes are still occurring in the cells in our bodies.
Most mutations do not provide an advantage for survival or reproduction, so they are not passed on to future generations and disappear.

--- p.121

Carl Sagan, who dedicated his life to popularizing natural science, made an ingenious proposal to the Voyager team in 1980.
“Team Leader, this is Sagan.
A good idea occurred to me.
“Before Voyager leaves the solar system, it turns its camera to take a picture of Earth.” “What a reckless guy…”
--- pp.146~147

Conversely, have there been cases of men suppressing testosterone secretion to diminish their masculinity? Have there been men who removed their testicles to extend their lifespan? Research has revealed a surprising number of such cases.
They are the Eunuchs of KOREA.
Let's go!
--- p.188~189

The most powerful way to stay young without turning into a lobster is exercise.
A study published by Brigham Young University in the United States on April 24, 2017, conducted this survey.
When comparing the telomere lengths of two groups, one group that exercised and the other that did not, with the condition that men jogged for 40 minutes a day and women jogged for 30 minutes five times a week, it was revealed that there was a difference of as much as 9 years in physical age.

--- pp.236~237

We live in a space-time where space and time are combined.
But why do people find it so difficult to imagine a fourth dimension, time? The reason is that our eyes can only see up to three dimensions.

--- p.275

The secret of humanity contained in this sculpture is that Homo sapiens were the first in animal history to begin to think about invisible, illusory beings.
The ability to believe in this invisible being made mankind the rulers of the world.

Publisher's Review
The #1 science channel with the most followers on YouTube in Korea.
The video of '1 Minute Science' that makes you 'feel' science beyond what you know has been made into a book.

“I get lost in the sage time just by watching this channel.”
“I had no interest in science whatsoever, but after coming across this channel, I became somewhat interested.”
“Ten minutes passed like one minute.
“Is this the theory of relativity?”
“I got goosebumps at XX seconds.”
A common sentiment seen in the comments on the '1 Minute Science' video is that 'science is more fun than I thought.'
Launched in 2016, the science channel '1 Minute Science' is a unique channel that is quite different from the popular YouTube channels you usually think of, and has hundreds of thousands of followers.
The channel name is '1 Minute Science', but in reality, there is only one video that is 1 minute long, and most of the videos are around 5 to 10 minutes long.
The topics covered are not always easy.
It covers topics ranging from difficult-to-understand scientific topics such as gravitational waves and the multiverse to philosophical topics such as the meaning of God and the virtual and the real.
The video upload cycle is also quite long, from several weeks to several months.
Yet, subscribers are willing to endure the time and encourage each other by saying things like, "I keep rewatching old videos," and "It obviously takes time to create videos of this quality."
The science stories told by this channel have captivated the hearts of subscribers in a unique way.
Jaebeom Lee, author of "1 Minute Science" and science creator, said, "I named my channel '1 Minute Science' because I wanted to make short videos that wouldn't be longer than two minutes so that science stories wouldn't get boring. The concept was to add background music and speak quickly, like rapping."
He showcases his unique humorous storytelling as a "science communicator," awakening the joy of science even in subscribers who have been reluctant to engage with it, and stimulating their hidden intellectual desires.

Why has science advanced so much? Because it's so much fun!
A unique storytelling experience that dramatically reduces the distance between science and me, presented in comics.

The author stated in an interview that the concept of '1 Minute Science' is to explore what meaning science can have for humanity, and in that sense, the channel promotes 'humanities'.
Beyond imparting knowledge, the channel's storytelling style is about making viewers feel how fun and important science is.
So the topics covered by the channel are also diverse.
Episodes like "The Real Reason You Should Exercise" and "How to Feel Refreshed in 20 Minutes with Coffee" incorporate scientific principles into practical information related to daily life, making science feel more approachable.
Meanwhile, the astronomy episode "Earth from Space," which boasts the highest number of views, delivers a warm feeling while evoking reflection on life and even humanity.
'The Illusion of Time' explains the physical topics of gravity and time, and also provides an opportunity for the general public, who are not familiar with science, to change their frame of perception by thinking about the 'truth of time'.

Boasting a high density of information and compelling storytelling, '1 Minute Science' offers viewers a variety of intellectual adventures, ranging from as short as 1 minute to as long as 10 minutes.
The channel's 14 representative episodes were adapted and serialized as a webtoon in 2019, and published as a book titled "1 Minute Science."
Readers who are encountering '1 Minute Science' for the first time through this book will be able to experience the true joy of 'science storytelling' that makes even difficult science feel familiar, and avid subscribers will have the opportunity to savor 'Legend' episodes in a new way through comics.
