This year marks the 70th anniversary of opera performances in Korea.
The reality is that there is not a single proper Korean script.
Opera is the most important genre leading the world's performing arts scene.
Opera librettos are a great piece of literature in their own right and a genre in their own right.

Pungwoldang Opera Collection

A small group of people take on the task that no one else is doing.
It starts with the sense of mission that if you are a cultural nation, you should at least have opera librettos translated.
Find a translator with interest and skill in opera and commission a manuscript.
We aim to create books that are both classy and easy to read.
There will be difficulties, but to the best of my ability,
I will do my best to compile an excellent and proper script.
I hope that this collection will contribute to the development of Korean opera and to the appreciation of opera by individuals.
Ultimately, I hope that we can become a country where more and more citizens around the world enjoy the true value of opera.
I gather my heart and hope.

Pungwoldang
Pungwoldang celebrated its 14th anniversary.
Pungwoldang, which started as a record store in 2003, started an academy for music lovers in 2007.
While teaching an opera class, I felt the need for a libretto, and I started with a full commentary, records, characters, and detailed commentary written by Professor Jong-ho Park himself (85 pages). The libretto is written so that the original text and the Korean translation can be viewed together.

The Pungwoldang Red Book, which is given free of charge to everyone who purchases this book, is written in Korean translation only, so that it can be easily carried to the performance venue.
Aida, chosen as the first book in the 'Pungwoldang Opera Series', is an important work written by Verdi at the peak of his life.
In the future, Pungwoldang plans to publish only the best opera librettos.
In the winter of 2017, I am preparing Alban Berg's Wozzeck.
And in 2018, we are planning a massive work, Wagner's "Ring".
