Into the book
People say lying is bad, but Youngwoo thinks that's something people say because they don't need to lie.
Sometimes you have to lie hard and in great detail.
When you lie, you often find out your true feelings that you didn't even know you had.
Youngwoo has been hiding his true feelings through the countless lies he tells his father.
Perhaps, even in the lies told by countless people, there is a piece of countless hearts.
--- p.26
The attic was full of old, useless things.
Strangely enough, there wasn't much dust.
I pictured my grandmother going up and down the attic, wiping dust and caressing things.
My grandmother thinks that anything she has is useful.
My mom is the complete opposite.
I immediately threw away things I didn't need.
I washed the clothes that had become too small and gave them to those in need, and I cleaned the toys I had used and sent them to those in need.
Whenever I got obsessed with people or things, my mother would stroke my face and say,
“If you keep something or an emotion in your possession for a long time, it becomes heavy and difficult.
You have to throw things away to make room, and you have to make room for new great things to come in.
you!"
But those words mean nothing to me.
I don't look like my mother.
I don't know how to throw it away, I don't want to throw it away, and I can't throw it away.
--- p.55
“I don’t know, I just took any bus.
Jaewoo and I often played like that.
At first I thought it was a sad game, but it turned out to be fun.
I think it's nice to just go somewhere without a purpose.
“I walk down unfamiliar roads and get lost and wander around… … .”
"You like being lost and wandering? Does that make sense? Why is that good?"
“If you walk, you might get lost.
But, it's not like I'm just wandering around.
“I realized that I could eventually find my way back and come back again while walking with Jaewoo.”
--- p.99
Eunseol switched to auto-driving mode and leaned back in her seat.
My heavy eyelids slowly fell.
Eunseol remembered the saying that today's time will become a memory tomorrow.
The sea that Soyo saw with Seon-a today will eventually become Soyo's sea.
Eunseol thought it would be nice to live a little better, and that it would be okay to postpone the decision until later.
--- pp.139~140
Eunwoo turned around after saying that.
I saw Eunwoo's back as he walked, staggering in the wind.
Eunwoo gradually moved away.
Why am I always so late? Why do I always see the back of someone's head?
I wanted to run to Eunwoo and grab his shoulder.
Why are you going alone? Why are you leaving me alone?
No, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry for hating you.
I wanted to tell you that I hated myself so much that I pretended to hate you even more.
But my body was frozen and didn't move.

Publisher's Review
The 1st Sowon Youth Literature Award Excellence Award Winner
The first fruit of a literary award that embodies the earnest wish to reach out to young people.
The first Sowon Youth Literature Award Excellence Award winner, “Summer’s Flight Luck,” has been published.
The Sowon Youth Literature Award is a literary award created by Sowon Tree, which has comforted the hearts of young people with its honest gaze and warm writing, with the earnest wish to get closer to the youth of today.
『Summer's Flight Clouds』, which was unanimously selected by the judges for the Excellence Award, is a collection of short stories that delicately depicts the weighty themes of 'death' and 'mourning'.
The judges, Lee Ok-su, Kim Seon-hee, and Kim Hye-jeong, did not spare their praise, saying, “This work is truly significant in that it showcases the essence of high-quality youth literature.”
Pay attention to the moment of loss that no one can avoid.
A work that stands out for its genuine emotional portrayal and simple sentences.
『Summer's Flight Cloud』 contains five stories centered around 'death,' a crucial event that every human being must face.
Death is a universal event that comes to everyone, but the emotions it leaves behind are deeply personal.
The work delicately captures this duality of death.
The experience of loss that befalls the characters is universal, and the grief that each character feels is portrayed in a unique way.
The author's genuine emotional descriptions and simple sentences naturally bring back memories of loss for each reader and allow them to deeply empathize with the characters.
How to navigate the time of mourning together, not alone
The story of those left behind and living on despite the loss
How do I cope with the loss of having a loved one no longer by my side?
The characters in the work are immersed in a deep sense of loss.
Sometimes, unable to handle those feelings, they lie out of habit, take sleeping pills, keep their mouths shut, and live like shadows.
However, they pass the time of mourning by holding the hand of the person next to them.
When we fall into deep despair due to someone's absence, the work speaks in a quiet but firm voice that what helps us get back on our feet is the presence of someone else who stays by our side.
Holding hands, the characters mourn the death, embrace the feelings left behind, and ultimately find their own way to live.
The reason why all the stories are set in summer is a metaphor for how dazzling the youth of today are, living like the brightly shining sun.
This work will serve as a gentle, encouraging song for young people who are moving forward in life despite deep sorrow.
A rich reading experience with diverse stories ranging from reality to science fiction.
The five short stories share the same theme, but are colorful.
It contains a wide range of stories, from those based on reality to science fiction stories set in the near future.
If "Summer's Flight" and "The Road to Goodbye" are stories set in reality, "In the Summer Forest, We" is set in virtual reality, and "The Sea of Circulation" is set in a future society where androids have become commercialized.
The wide genre spectrum provides readers with a rich reading experience and demonstrates that form is not all that important when it comes to telling stories of grief and loss.
