Description
Book Introduction
Having their country taken away, their human rights trampled on,
All the discrimination and injustice I had to endure because I was a woman
Stand up and don't give in!

The lives and deaths of women who fought against violent public authority and absurdity to reclaim their lost country, to protect the human rights of oppressed workers, and to protect the vulnerable suffering from unreasonable laws and discrimination, yet who were discriminated against or sacrificed, yet bravely continued their lives, are vividly brought to life in the author's delicate and affectionate writing.

Into the book
It seemed like immigration to Hawaii was only romanticized.
I hadn't come here dreaming of paradise on earth, but the situation in Hawaii seemed much worse than I had imagined.
--- From "The Picture Bride's Dream"

As I walked aimlessly among the fallen leaves, memories of the past came flooding back to me.
From his life in a brothel to the moment he was arrested as a leader of the Manse Movement.

--- From "Tongyeong's Flower, Gukhee"

What made me who I am today was ‘passion’ and ‘sincerity.’
From the time I was a child, dreaming of becoming a lawyer, until the moment I died, without even knowing what I was doing.
I want to draw the journey of my life.

--- From "The Hen Must Crow"

As martial law was declared, protests by students and citizens became more violent.
Only after seeing the blood of countless students did the dictator finally step down from the stage.
The shouts of the city of light gradually died down.

--- From "Joan of Arc of Geumnam-ro"

The moment he was about to take out the 'blood letter' he had written during the day while shouting, a club flew at him.
Black combat boots weigh down my ankles.
He runs away, clutching his trembling legs.
Jinsuk's voice is heard from somewhere.
Like a dream.
Poignantly.
--- From "The Shout of Wildflowers"
