The moment when studying becomes exciting
Description
Book Introduction
“What we must gain through study is “It is an experience of achievement that goes beyond grades!” 30 points in math → 11th place in the country 7 Study Stories That Will Break Your Limits and Create Exhilaration Graduated from the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Seoul National University, bestselling author, and CEO of Small Big Class, a leading education startup in South Korea. Looking at it this way, it seems like a life far from failure, where he was good at studying from birth and never missed first place. However, this is only the 'result' created by CEO Seungwoo Cho, and there were countless moments of frustration, crisis, worry, and conflict in the 'process'. '30 points in math', 'bullying', 'depression'. These three words were representative of CEO Seungwoo Cho during his high school days. I dug into my studies with a vague desire to do well, but my grades just didn't improve. Here, my relationship with my friends also became strained. The only choice he had was to run away. After I decided to drop out, I stayed in my room and thought about it. “Why can’t I do this?” Then, I happened to be flipping through the biographies I read as a child and realized something. “Oh, I haven’t failed, I just haven’t gotten there yet!” And then, just six months after sitting down at my desk again, I achieved the incredible result of ranking 11th in the nation. This book, "The Moment When Studying Becomes Exciting," is not a secret notebook for passing the entrance exam by a Seoul National University graduate. Before talking about grades or college, this is a life reference book that will help you seriously consider, "What kind of life will I live? Is the word 'study' part of my life plan?" and lead you to unfold your limitless potential and possibilities. This is a heartfelt message of support and warm encouragement to those who have chosen the path of study to achieve their dreams. If your grades are stagnant no matter how hard you try, if you find yourself lost in thought whenever you sit at your desk, if you just keep rushing through your studies without even knowing why you're studying, it's time to change the direction of your studies. Every page is filled with the story of Jo Seung-woo's study know-how, which led him to finally enter Seoul National University, ranked 11th in the nation, after years of trial and error, and the story of his determination to rise up whenever he felt like collapsing in front of the wall of study. And by the time you read the last chapter of this book, we will be able to meet. That moment when studying finally becomes exciting. |

Into the book
There is another reason why we cannot really study hard.
We always want to do well and work hard, but deep down, we are held back by the anxiety and worry that we might be wondering, "Can I really do well?" and "Can I really do it?"
I've tried my best, but I'm afraid that if I don't achieve the results I want, I'll hurt myself, and I'm also worried that I'll disappoint my parents.
Maybe I chose not to work hard because I was afraid of being seen as a loser or a person lacking something.
If I don't work hard, my heart won't get hurt.
So it's really hard to make up your mind and start.
We want to grit our teeth and really work hard at least once, but when we start studying, the anxiety and fear that creeps up in our hearts makes us hesitate.
--- p.19
When we look at ourselves, we see ourselves at the present moment.
I see myself not doing well, failing.
You cannot see your future self as successful and accomplished.
So it wasn't a fair comparison to begin with.
I just realized it now.
It's not that I've 'failed', it's that I just haven't 'got there yet'.
I am still in the process, and I have realized that if I never give up, no matter what failures or trials come my way, I will eventually reach my desired destination.
--- p.
34~35
While conducting interviews for a book on studying, I came across many cases where athletes started studying late in life and achieved rapid improvement in their grades.
At first, I thought that since athletes have good physical strength, perseverance, and guts, they must have studied hard as well.
But there was a more important point.
It was precisely the ‘sense of accomplishment that comes from doing something well.’
Thanks to that valuable experience, they were able to be confident that they could do well in the studies they were facing now, just as they did then.
--- p.68
It never matters what kind of growth it is.
For example, memorizing ten English words that used to take 30 minutes to learn one day can be done in 15 minutes, or finally being able to do a chin-up that you couldn't do before - all these things that you break yourself into are examples of small growth, small success, and small accomplishments.
Everyone accumulates these experiences of growth and achievement as they live, without even realizing it.
Yet, the reason why not everyone has the confidence that they can do well is because they forget their own small successes and accomplishments.
--- p.83
The second time I realized I was pretending to study was when I took out all the test papers from all the exams I had taken so far.
And the problem I discovered in the process was that I often thought I knew things, but I ended up making mistakes on the actual test.
For example, there were cases where I got the same problem I wrote down in my notebook wrong on the exam, or I thought I understood the concept well but got the problem wrong on the actual exam.
We usually say that we are being fooled by 'metacognition'.
Metacognition means 'the eye that knows what I know and what I don't know', or, in simple terms, the eye that sees my memories.
I was fooled by my own metacognition.
--- p.194~195
The same was true of the mentors I met while writing "Study Master Plan" and "Compressed Study."
They had lofty goals, but they also had their own roadmap to get there.
No matter how big the gap between their goals and reality, those who have their own ladder will eventually reach their destination.
If you really want to achieve your goals, you have to break them down and take the steps one by one.
If you try to do something grandiose all at once, you are bound to fail.
--- p.228~229
I have had countless hardships and failures.
Since I was little, there were times when I doubted whether I could do well and lost courage.
But the biggest reason why my heart and will were not broken was because of the ‘superhero’ who protected me.
He read my crooked diary from when I was young with more interest than any bestselling author's book, and he listened to my poor presentations as if they were the speeches of some great person.
Even when people in the world said I couldn't do it, you gave me courage by saying, "You can do it." When someone hurt me, you shared my pain and comforted me as if it were your own.
He always told me how precious I was and how special I was.
He planted in me the root of 'faith' so that I could become a strong tree.
Someone who knows my heart better than I do, someone who trusts me more than I do.
That 'superhero' was my mom.

Publisher's Review
Study mentor for 1 million teenagers
The latest book from the author of the best-selling book, "Compression Studies"
A must-read for those who dream of skyrocketing grades.
“If your heart races when you study,
“There will definitely come a time when your grades will skyrocket.”
The one book that will make you fall in love with your studies!
If you ask Korean students to describe the image that comes to mind when they think of studying, nine out of ten will say it's difficult, boring, and something they really don't want to do but have to do.
Why do we have to endure such tormenting studying? To get into a prestigious university? To win the competition? To demonstrate our intelligence? All of these are wrong.
Studying is a process of creating a truly good 'me'.
By keeping promises to yourself, you discover 'sincerity', by improving today more than yesterday, you develop 'learning ability', and by seeing people who fail but try again and succeed in the end, you strengthen 'persistence'.
All of this, discovering possibilities and potential you never knew you had, believing in yourself, and moving toward your dreams, is what studying is all about. It's about developing a heart that can face any difficult or challenging problem without being discouraged on the grand stage of the world.
This is the real purpose of studying.
This book does not tell you the secret to getting into a prestigious university.
More importantly, it clearly shows us why we must study, what fun and joy we can gain from studying, and how the sense of accomplishment gained from studying will empower us in our future lives.
You can also discover the author's unique know-how for quickly improving your grades, which is sure to come to those who realize the reason for studying.
Let's remember.
The moment studying becomes exciting, your grades will inevitably skyrocket.
“I’ve never felt such a pleasant thrill before.
“I never knew studying could be this exciting!”
For you who will overcome the wall of studying and ultimately succeed!
Do you know who invented the first airplane? Yes.
The Wright brothers.
However, at the time when the Wright brothers were diligently developing airplanes, there was someone in the United States who was making the same airplane.
His name is Samuel Pierpont Langley.
He worked at Harvard and had a truly enriching environment, interacting with such luminaries as steel magnate Andrew Carnegie and Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone.
In contrast, the Wright brothers were engineers who ran a bicycle shop with their family.
They had neither strong supporters nor intelligent colleagues.
Nevertheless, they left a distinct mark on history.
What on earth decided the fate of these two? It was a dream.
A powerful dream to create a flying airplane and enable many people to live a comfortable life.
Langley, on the other hand, thought he could become more famous and richer by inventing an airplane.
In other words, they were trying to invent the airplane as a means of gaining wealth and fame.
So, it is said that Langley gave up his research as soon as he heard the news that the Wright brothers had invented the first airplane.
This is precisely why you should read this book, "The Moment When Studying Becomes Exciting."
Because the moment I realize why I study and why studying is necessary, everything changes.
The moment you overcome the annoyance and reluctance to do something and move forward, the moment you find strength in times of difficulty and want to give up, and the moment you have the will to get back up even if you fall, a tomorrow completely different from today will unfold.
In this book, the author says:
“The most important thing in studying is the experience of achievement beyond grades.”
The moment we believe we can, we gain the strength to overcome any wall, and that strength will inevitably lead to even greater achievement.
Therefore, this book is like a prophecy for those who will ultimately do well.
Because you are doing well, you will do well, and you will be fine.
