The first use of the Tripitaka Koreana
Description
Book Introduction
“To attain stability, I am now entering Buddhism.”
Korea's first Tripitaka Koreana manuscript collection, "The First Tripitaka Koreana," published!
We are diligent in governing ourselves.
As you walk straight down the path before you, as you climb the towering mountains, as you close your eyes and quietly immerse yourself in a world of meditation, you calm your mind, organize your thoughts, and align the course of your life.
Even in the age of forty, when we are free from worldly distractions and clouded by judgment, even in the age of sixty, when our ears become pure and we can objectively hear and understand everything, even in the age of seventy, when we can act according to our will without going astray, we discipline ourselves.
The reason we govern ourselves throughout our lives is because everything is unstable.
Thoughts arise one after another without warning, going back to the past and falling into self-reproach, regret, and resentment, and going into the future and creating anxiety and worry for oneself.
Anger and suffering from greed for life to go one's way.
Through their own colored glasses, they constantly divide the object into 'good/bad, pretty/ugly, clean/dirty' and waver in a cycle of attachment and disgust.
So, when we govern ourselves, we are finding the way to stability.
To reach that stability, we must now turn to Buddhism.
This book is a collection of manuscripts that select and compile passages essential to our lives from the Tripitaka Koreana, a compilation of Buddhist scriptures.
The Tripitaka Koreana is vast, but not much of it is widely known. If you extract only the necessary parts, the volume is within your grasp.
Reading and writing the content that comes into your hands every day.
That is the way we reach stability.
If we read and write every day the passages that free us from the heap of greed, obsession, and discrimination that bind us, the passages that dispel the shadows of our thoughts, the passages that purify our minds and set our lives straight, we will reach the path to the stability we have been searching for.

Publisher's Review
'Desperate Times' That Improve Our Lives
There are many ways to discipline yourself, but writing is an experience you must have at least once in your life.
The materials are simple enough that you only need paper, a pen, and some copying material, but even those who have been writing for decades have to learn how to balance themselves like a baby learning to walk for the first time.
If you hold the pen with too much or too little force, the shape of the letters will not come out properly.
If the direction of the paper and your hand, or the angle of the paper and the pen is not appropriate, writing will not be smooth.
As you complete letters by combining consonants and vowels with appropriate force, and complete sentences by adding commas and periods, the space between them accumulates a balanced time that is neither tilted nor unbalanced.
Also, the power of transcription is strong enough to be engraved in the mind without effort.
Read through the text you need to write once.
Read it in your mind while moving your hand, or read it again out loud.
In the middle of writing or after finishing writing, read it again to check if you wrote it correctly.
Even if you write it once, you have to read it over and over again, so even if you don't put in a lot of effort, the writing will remain in your mind for a long time.
We are always struggling.
I want to rest and catch my breath, but I can't let go of the constant desire to grow.
Even though there is no guarantee that things will get better or be reborn if you keep going, you have to keep pushing forward fiercely.
If we could learn to maintain balance and moderate effort throughout our lives, wouldn't it be a little easier to manage ourselves in our precarious lives? The only way to learn this is through writing.
Read and write every day
Every moment you live will be a miracle.
The First Tripitaka Koreana is a book that combines the power of transcription with the most amazing and beautiful scriptures we have.
We have selected passages from the Tripitaka Koreana that we believe are important to our lives and classified them into the following ten categories.
Right insight into the body, which is like a bubble, a fleeting cloud, or a lightning bolt; how to escape the heap of greed, attachment, and discrimination and attain peace; suffering and the truth that extinguishes it; how to abandon the vain and place life in the 'here and now'; how to cast away the shadows of thought; the effort to cultivate the mind; true learning; the path to the world of Buddha and Bodhisattva and nirvana; the Buddha's last words.
Therefore, simply by copying the scriptures of the 『First Writing of the Tripitaka Koreana』, we can control our body, thoughts, life path, and mind, and achieve stability within ourselves.
The book provides space to write next to the scripture passages to facilitate copying.
It is okay if the transcription does not proceed in order from the first page to the last.
You can start with the phrase that is most relevant to you.
There is no need to set a time limit and write.
You can read it in the morning and write it in the evening, or you can read and write it at any time during the day when you want to discipline yourself and find peace.
You may repeat phrases you like.
Just read and write every day.
Buddhists will find true learning, those who find solace in the act of writing will find true stability, and those who reflect on their past lives and seek to change their future will find what they truly need in life.
