Description
Book Introduction
『Time Cat』 presented by author Miyeon Park
A thrilling youth sci-fi survival story!

Author Park Mi-yeon's "DMZ Angel's Star" (2 volumes) has been published in the YA! series.

"DMZ Angel's Star" is a survival story about young people risking their lives in a confined space.
The characters who arrive in an unfamiliar place with the same goal and repeat cooperation and betrayal, combined with the work's unique worldview, provide an exceptional sense of immersion.
Additionally, the turbulent psychological portrayal of characters on the edge of a cliff, like in the movies “The Hunger Games” and “The Maze Runner,” is also a point worth noting.

Along with the genre's immersive nature, the author also reveals in his work the issues that young readers should be aware of.
The subject matter is clearly timely, from the climate disaster that is the backdrop and driving force of the overall atmosphere of the work, to the situation after the unification of North and South Korea, to the DMZ, a perhaps unfamiliar space.
These materials, combined with the work's interesting elements, will provide young readers with an opportunity to broaden their thinking in an easy and enjoyable way.

Into the book
Then he quickly turned around and started running away in the opposite direction of the forest.
A few children, infected by the fear, followed suit.
But I didn't even have the freedom to run away.
--- p.30

The rest of the children followed at a distance behind the child who staggered ahead.
After about thirty minutes, the boy from the north suddenly stopped walking and looked back.
And that was the end of it.
--- p.62

“Let me tell you what you’re going to do when you find the ‘Angel’s Star.’
Then I will answer whether I can do it or not.”
I almost told everything to Hae-woo, who was smiling with his eyes wide like crescent moons.
The story of my mother, who was taken away by soldiers, and how precious my mother was to me. --- p.79

The valley, where every leaf and blade of grass had been clearly visible just a moment ago, had completely disappeared before my eyes.
And the place was covered with a thick, damp fog.
The fog, which had already reached our very noses, seemed to swallow everything. --- p.110

“Hey, isn’t that really strange? How can grass grow in a place like this?”
"therefore.
“It feels like a different world inside.”
“What on earth is here?”--- p.123

Haewoo paused for a moment, perhaps feeling a little moved.
He stared at the ceiling for a long time as if holding back tears, then continued speaking in a hushed voice.
“So, even if you’re sad now, endure it, and even if you’re scared, endure it.
Let's just think about getting out of here." --- p.168

“Ryu Hae-woo! What are you doing now?”
“I’ll go in and take a look.
If it gets too deep, you can just come back out.”
I couldn't tell if it was bravery or ignorance, but now I thought maybe Hae-woo was right.
I also followed Haewoo into the water.
A slippery, rough lump of dirt was trampled underfoot.
The water was clearer than I thought and the smell wasn't unpleasant.

Publisher's Review
Children left alone, separated from their families
Join the survival game to survive

A global drought threatens the entire planet, making it difficult for anyone other than the wealthiest citizens to obtain drinking water.
Many children stole food or water and became prisoners.
The reason the children come to prison is solely for survival, but the author gives them a new opportunity called 'Boys' Day', as they have already taken risks.
There is no reason not to take greater risks for these children.
This is how the fiercely competitive survival game begins, where you have to risk your life to survive.

As soon as it starts, the forest in the DMZ becomes a chaos.
Ironically, in the midst of a great drought, the only land of life, children's lives are at risk.
As the extreme situation in the unfamiliar environment intensifies, the children's confused psychology is conveyed to us outside the work.
They empathize with each other in the same situation, but as competitors pursuing the same goal, they always conflict and worry.
As events unfold rapidly, the children's naive emotions become increasingly determined to win, and the story becomes more immersive as they repeat cooperation and betrayal.

The changed climate of 2081
Our story of facing another future

The work evokes a strange sense of foreboding with its unique premise of a unified Korean Peninsula and the DMZ, the only natural preservation area.
The reality that is unfolding for us outside the work is described as a distant past for them, creating a distant atmosphere throughout the story.
Although this is a result of the writer's current awareness of the issues, this sense of urgency also leaves the reader with an opportunity to gain insight on their own.
You can accept it as your own story, not just the story of a character in a novel.

The reality depicted in the work is quite different from our current situation.
For example, the image of children struggling to survive in an extreme environment evokes a feeling of imagination rather than realistic empathy.
However, through the familiarity of the subjects of the DMZ, unification of North and South Korea, and the great drought, we can confirm the important message that the author's hypothetical law is connected to the reality that will unfold from now on, that is, the future.
To prevent the day from coming when “we exceed the temperature of the Earth that scientists have warned of” (Volume 1, p. 103), the work will serve as an opportunity for readers to broaden their thinking.
