_Park Dae-young, pastor of Gwangju Somyeong Church

It was when I was halfway through reading his writing.

There was a new challenge that I hesitated to take on because I was worried that my failure mileage would increase.
Before I knew it, I had a feeling that it was okay to fail.
I got a chance to move forward happily.

_ Ahn Hee-kyung, author of 'The World from Today'

Inflammation covering the intestines
Pain and intestinal signals that come without warning
Extreme pain that makes it impossible to sit or lie down
Side effects from medications that must be taken
A condition that prevents you from starting your day early…

The list of things the author had to deal with overnight is countless.
Things that arise from the weakness of the body have permeated every aspect of life and distorted daily life.
He was forced to serve in the military as a young man, unable to hold on to his loved ones when they were about to leave, and unable to play with his only daughter, for whom he would give his life.
This book contains the story of a man who once seriously dreamed of becoming a comedian, who ended up with a body he couldn't control by his own will, how he came to accept that, and the changes in his life that occurred when he accepted his weakness.

Publisher's Review

At the same time, it does not allow him to remain in a controllable life,
It made me look at the world beyond.

Greeting and finding solace in the face of need
A power that cannot be supported is created

The author, who suffered from insomnia, barely managed to wake up to take his child to school and then fall back asleep, often wakes up after 12 noon to a wake-up call from his wife who has gone to work.
At times like that, I couldn't help but feel defeated and wonder, 'What am I doing while everyone else is finishing their morning work, eating lunch, and enjoying tea time?'
One day, while whipping himself with a sense of defeat, he realizes that this is not a healthy stimulus but rather abuse, and decides to accept his own weakness.
'I guess my condition has deteriorated a lot lately.
'I'll start my day by soothing my stomach with some soft porridge.' By letting go of unnecessary strictness and embracing my shortcomings, I was able to use my waking hours more focused.

In an everyday experience he would not have known if it had not been for his deficiency, he thinks of a woman suffering from hemorrhage.
A woman who gave her best to the Lord, but the Lord accepted her best, which the world had returned as betrayal to her.
What I gained from my daily life of offering the 'best I can' to the Lord was a peace that the world cannot give and the strength to live.

Things I see after being sick

“You can do it.
You can do it.
Let's do it!”
“Everything will be okay.
“A person who believes in God should not be discouraged.”
“God does this to use us in a great way.”

At first glance, these words may seem encouraging, but ironically, they only add to the despair and helplessness of the person suffering.
These words, which I used to use without difficulty before I got sick, now that I realize that they can sound like empty religious rhetoric to someone who is suffering, I find it difficult to utter them.

Especially now, as a pastor, I am carefully choosing my thoughts, words, and actions on how to approach the congregation who are struggling due to COVID-19.

In addition, he is overflowing with new perspectives and wisdom on the world gained through the lens of deficiency.
The author's writing, gleaned from a life marked by deprivation, will provide clear comfort to those living in times of suffering.
