Description
Book Introduction
'Why on earth is this happening to me?'
When something incomprehensible comes, God's training begins. The endless events that come and go in life The end of my life's voyage is to become Jesus. There are countless things that happen in life that are simply incomprehensible. How can we triumph in the midst of constant adversity? This book illuminates David, the icon of trials and tribulations. He became a fugitive and hated by King Saul, whom God had no choice but to establish in response to the people's prayers for a king. I have been on the verge of death several times over the past ten years. Why did this happen to David, who was praised as "a man after my own heart"? The author explains that God gives us various circumstances in the labyrinthine confines of life as training to cultivate holiness within us. All events are for the purpose of saving us and allowing the Word to enter. Why does God make us pay such high tuition for training? It's because, like David, unless we're in crisis, unless we're in a state of urgency and longing, we won't pray desperately and seek to hear God's voice. If it's something you can understand, it's not training. David was able to become the ancestor of Jesus because he went through the incomprehensible. When things are so painful that we feel like we could die, we too can have a deep fellowship with God. I learn to listen to God's voice and how He leads me because I have a tyrannical spouse, parents, and children who torment me from the side. |

Into the book
Is there someone in our home possessed by an evil spirit and tormenting us? We must realize that this person is absolutely necessary for the salvation of us and our family.
We must know that this entire process is God's intervention.
So instead of saying, “Why is there such a sick person in my house?” think, “This is necessary for the salvation of my family.”
If there is someone in our home who is possessed by an evil spirit, I hope that there is a redemptive message everywhere that is trying to save this family.
I believe that because of that one person who is having a hard time, the whole family will be saved.
I believe that because of that family, the entire nation, the church, and the entire world will be saved.
--- p.46
God gives us various circumstances to save us and to allow His Word to enter us.
God's purpose for us is only salvation.
But we cannot see that salvation, and we spend our lives liking, disliking, hating, fearing, and envying the roles that God has tied us to for our salvation.
I'm stuck in the grasshopper syndrome where I hate it so much, I like it so much, I can't breathe.
If you are holding someone who is suffocating you right now, I hope you will let go today.
--- p.80
David's training was of a very high standard because he was to stand tall as the ancestor of Jesus.
It's high intensity training.
Usually, people hate each other and then they let go, but Saul hated David until he died.
He allows David to have endless hatred.
It is a hatred that David truly cannot understand.
Who is David? He is the hero among heroes who defeated Goliath.
But then, overnight, he became a fugitive.
An ordinary person would not understand this pain and would have already become depressed or mentally ill a hundred times over.
How lonely and difficult it must have been to walk that path.
But God becomes a refuge for David.
Jesus Christ becomes our refuge.
Without experiencing God's help, how could David possibly endure such incomprehensible suffering? Yet, God led David to bear witness to the coming and going generations, to bear witness to the family of believers, of God's help.
--- pp.188-189
Because David was able to overcome the incomprehensible, he was able to become the ancestor of Jesus.
If it were something understandable, how could it be training? It's training because it's incomprehensible.
Has your spouse passed away before you? Have you sent your children away before you? Has your business gone bankrupt? Has your spouse been unfaithful? Are your children causing trouble and running away from home every day? When something incomprehensible happens, when you wonder, "Why is this happening to me?"—when the pain seems to be killing you—we come to commune with God.
God says, “Come meet me now, when something incomprehensible has happened in your life.”
If we are not lonely in this quiet time with the Lord, we cannot meet Him.
If you are filled with love for your husband, love for your children, and money in this world, you will never meet the Lord.
--- p.195
Why does God charge such a high tuition? Why did He go to such lengths to teach David how to receive God's guidance? If not for this crisis, this urgency and longing, who would pray desperately and seek God's voice? With life hanging in the balance, wouldn't we seek to hear God's voice through Scripture every day, every minute, every second?
So, David's greatest spiritual teacher was ultimately Saul.
The master of our spirituality is the one who torments me.
I am grateful to him for teaching me to hear God's voice and how He leads me, even through people like Saul who torment me from the side.
So, I sincerely tell you that I am working hard for you.
I am grateful that I have been able to realize the Creator's will, which is incomparable to that of humans.

Publisher's Review
You can find peace when you have values that are different from the world.
This book is the third in Pastor Kim Yang-jae's Q&A series on 1 Samuel, following "That One Person" and "Loved Nevertheless," and contains meditations on 1 Samuel chapters 16 through 22.
The reason we have no peace within us is because we are not holy.
If we abandon the world's values of winning and winning again in the daily battle with the world, and fill ourselves with distinct values that die and decay, we can enjoy peace.
Jesus, the greatest refuge, is established as a new king in place of the kings of the world, so that we can live in accordance with God's work.
