Teen Story King is the youth version of the children's literature award 'Story King', which was the first in Korea to introduce a child judge system. By introducing a youth judge system, youth directly participated in the judging process.

A nationwide panel of youth judges, selected from a wide range of applicants from middle school first graders to high school seniors, read and evaluated the final selection novels and chose the one they liked best.
In keeping with Teen Story King's goal of producing works with a strong storytelling power that teenagers would choose to read, the novel "Birth of a Sibling" captured the hearts of teenagers solely through the power of storytelling. Into the book
As you live, all sorts of things happen.
Unexpected good fortune, unexpected misfortune, unexpected encounter, unexpected parting.
Maybe something you've only ever imagined will happen, and maybe something you've never, ever imagined, even in your dreams, will happen.
No matter what happens, complaining is forbidden.
How do you deal with what has already happened?
That's all there is to it.
The future depends on it.

--- p.11

Baek Do-jin and Baek Yu-jin are indeed siblings.
This is driving me crazy.
Are you really siblings? That's ridiculous.
There must have been some mistake.
Either the sample was contaminated, the results were manipulated, or something else was definitely wrong.
We can't be siblings.
Because until recently, I was an only child.

--- p.16

“Huh? Your real brother?” At that moment, the sky suddenly lit up.
Immediately afterwards, a loud thunder echoed throughout the sky.
It was like a firecracker announcing the birth of our siblings.

--- p.26

The moment the door opened, I was shocked.
It wasn't a warehouse or anything like that anymore.
It was a room for people to use, properly furnished with a bed, desk, and wardrobe.

--- p.27~28

As you live, all sorts of things happen.
Of course, there are limits to everything, but what's done is done.
It doesn't matter how absurd it is.
Even if it's so absurd that you want to believe it's a dream, once it happens, it's all the same.
We have to get through this somehow.

--- p.36

There was a saying like this in a biography I read when I was young.
'Everyone has 2,400 chances.' The person who said this was Edison, who overcame 2,399 failures to create the light bulb on his 2,400th attempt.
If only I could honor that meaning and be half, half, half like him.
If that were the case, I would have been able to get up again at least 300 times.

Room 303.
The nameplate attached to the hospital room door was clearly visible.
Baek Do-jin.
He is a guy whose identity is truly certain.
I opened the hospital room door carefully, feeling a renewed sense of admiration.
The inside was darker than I thought.
At the very edge of that darkness was my brother.

--- p.164

I admit it.
I am reckless and spontaneous.
It is better to go than to wait, and it is easier to be courageous than to be patient.

--- p.191

Those words were not special or meaningful at all.
It was just a normal greeting that was said several times a day.
Yet, those words seemed most appropriate at this moment.
At least I didn't feel like I was being shabby.
I closed the door and said, just loud enough for my dad to hear.
“Hello, brother.”
--- p.230

There are two magical phrases in the world that can make most situations go away.
The most commonly used sentence is this.
'I don't remember.' And the other one is this.
“It was a coincidence.”
--- p.309

“Let’s never meet again, not even in our dreams.
At the end he said this:

Publisher's Review
“As you live, all kinds of things happen.

But isn’t there a limit to everything?”

One day, I, an only child, suddenly got an older brother!
A whimsical comic fantasy with a suspicious older brother whose identity and purpose are unknown.

A female teenage protagonist who runs through a stable fantasy stage without any exaggerated corners.
A masterpiece, highlighted by the healthy vitality of all the other characters and the refreshing ending! - "From the judges' comments" by Lee Hyeon (children's story writer) and Jeong So-yeon (science fiction writer)

Running without any signs of tiring
The breathtaking performance of a bright and energetic female youth protagonist

On the first day of summer vacation, a high school student named Baek Yu-jin, who has been living as an only child until now, suddenly has an older brother she never had before.
In reality, it is not entirely impossible for a brother to appear out of nowhere.
However, Baek Do-jin, who appeared as Eugene's older brother, suddenly interfered in Eugene's life without even the slightest convincing reason.
In a situation where something so absurd and unbelievable that it could make you faint has already happened, Eugene's choice is to actively break through.
Eugene endlessly challenges herself in her own way to uncover the identity of her mysterious older brother, who may or may not even be human.

Compared to his shocking first appearance, Baek Do-jin spends all day lying on the living room sofa watching TV, acting somewhat dull, while Eugene tirelessly attempts some rather bizarre and bold attempts.
Eugene's personality, which is bold and refreshing without any suffocating corners, won the sympathy of the youth judges and received an enthusiastic response.
Eugene, who falls and bumps into things but always shakes himself off and gets back up again, is a strong protagonist that anyone would want to root for.

As I revisited the manuscript ahead of publication, I noticed something more noteworthy than Eugene's journey to defeat her suddenly appearing older brother.
That was exactly Eugene's mindset.
The courage to never yield to an unknown older brother, the tenacity to get back up no matter how many times he fails, the smile that never fades in any situation, and the affection for those around him all seemed to shine brighter than when he was writing.
― From the author's words

After taking the mock exam in September, Eugene goes to a middle school reunion to feel a sense of liberation, and meets Seo Kang-il, who, like her, suddenly got an older sister one day.
On the same day, the story takes a new turn when he unexpectedly gains allies in his close friend Yeonsil and another friend, Yoon Seonghyeon.
Four energetic and lively people join forces to uncover the identities of their suspicious older brother and sister.
In addition to the honest and bold charm of the main character, Eugene, the action film, in which a group of unique supporting characters come together to achieve the same goal, provides lively fun and exhilarating pleasure.
In particular, the conversations between the four people who lead the story with their own unique thoughts and unique ideas are so realistic that many of the youth judges commented, “It’s like a conversation we actually have in our daily lives,” adding to the overflowing sense of realism.

A lively and cheerful mystery novel that blurs the lines between fantasy and everyday life!
The strong attraction that attracts the current generation who 'read' on their smartphones,

A story that provides the greatest immersion with twists and turns

They say that these days, 'kids' don't read books.
No, that's not true.
From web novels to social media, young people are always reading.
Maybe we're reading more than teenagers in the past.
― Lee Hyeon (children's story writer), from the judges' comments

What kind of stories truly capture the hearts of middle and high school students? Today's teenagers are a generation that has moved beyond the traditional book format and instead "reads" on their smartphones.
Rather, I am constantly reading, exploring a wider range of genres than before.
The lighthearted and original writing style of writer Ahn Se-hwa, who has written web dramas and published thriller novels, has all the characteristics that make it perfect for teenagers to enjoy.
Among the youth judges' favorable reviews of 'The Birth of a Sibling', the expression that stands out the most is 'immersion'.
People all agree on the work's powerful appeal, saying things like, "It's like a movie," "I feel like I'm the main character in a virtual reality game," and "I read it all in one sitting during my free time."

Eugene's attempts to defeat her brother are repeatedly thwarted, but she gets back up again and again.
The story, which began with the simple and petty wish of 'I wish I had a brother', shows the daily life of an ordinary high school student, while naturally and without exaggeration incorporating elements of fantasy, mystery, and reasoning into it.
The mysterious atmosphere that continues throughout the book due to the unsolved mystery until the last chapter and the sentences that resemble detective novel techniques constantly make you look forward to the next incident, and the one after that.
The ending, which finally arrives after striding across the stage that has been set up in a structured manner, is refreshing and cool enough to be a conclusion that is full of the passion of the youth who value the so-called 'recovery of the bait'.
A bright and lively mystery novel that unfolds in an unpredictable way, the birth of the one and only work chosen by teenagers.

From the comments of the youth jury

This is a novel where you get swept up in the protagonist's tumultuous journey without even realizing it, but it never feels burdensome. Rather, it makes you enjoy the journey and look forward to the next story.
In a word, this novel is “fun.”
- Na Seong-ah, 2nd year student at Cheongdam High School

A cinematic story that won't let you put the book down! It draws you in, as if you were the main character.
The scenery was drawn naturally in my head, as if I was playing a virtual reality game.

- Oh Se-rim, 2nd year student at Seongbok Middle School

I read this work during my school recess, and I skipped even the break and read it all in one sitting.
A novel that gets more and more immersive and addictive as you read it!
- Park Seo-hyun, 2nd year student at Seondeok Girls' High School

Anyone who wants to dream happy and varied dreams should open this book.
- Lee Hyeon-su, first year, Together Learning Center

"The Birth of Siblings" is a truly fascinating novel.
This novel is a beautiful, sad, yet charming novel that mixes the subject of 'death', which can be a bit heavy for teenagers, with fantasy and the protagonist's unique quirkiness.
Be sure to read the birth of siblings full of emotion, sadness, and absurdity!
- Moon Young-seo, first year student at Changdeok Girls' Middle School

This is a work that captivated me at the border between reality and fantasy.
I was curious about the ending of this story, but at the same time, I was excited and hoped it would never end.
When I found myself reading more than I hadn't, I felt so bad that I deliberately slowed down my reading pace.
It does a good job of capturing family, friends, and other human relationships from a teenager's perspective.

- Jeon Ji-hyun, 3rd year student at Daejeon Gwanpyeong Middle School

I kept laughing when I watched 'The Birth of a Sibling'.
The protagonist Eugene's eccentric thoughts and actions kept making me laugh out loud.

- Jang Se-bin, first year student at Gamgye Middle School

It's a fantasy novel.
Unbelievable things happen in our reality.
However, this novel had a solid structure and story, as if it were a true story.

- Ji-hu Ahn, first year at Solbit Middle School

"The Birth of a Sibling" is a story about the daily lives of friends my age, and I found the fast-paced development to be exciting.
I also liked the idea that the protagonist, who was an only child, suddenly had an older brother.
It is a work that young people can easily concentrate on.
- Cheon Gyeong-min, a first-year student at Anyang Arts High School

It was so interesting that I was able to read it all in one sitting without getting bored.
The perfect book for teenagers, by teenagers!
- Kim Ri-an, first year student at Sangsan High School

I was so absorbed in it that I still have a strong aftertaste while reading it.
Everything that happened in the book felt so vivid that I felt like such absurd things would soon happen to me too.
- Da-yeon Lee, 2nd year student at Sindorim Middle School

I couldn't put the book down because the ending was so unpredictable that I couldn't even read it to the end.
- Kang Si-won, 2nd year, Airport Middle School

It was a tornado-like text.
It swept everything away and sucked it all in.
It seemed like it would never end, but it continued to live and breathe in my head.
As the story unfolded, I got goosebumps.
I really like stories that stay in my memory for a long time, and this one keeps coming back to me so much that I even dream about similar stories after reading it.

- Kim Ha-jin, first year student at Geumok Middle School

The series' endless twists and turns made it a compelling piece! It encompassed fantasy, mystery, and a thrilling plot.
This is what makes this book a 'fun book'.

- Park Joo-young, first year student at Jeonju Seosin Middle School
