Into the book
“Of all the things invisible to the eye, the one that hurts the most is the heart.” ---From “Volume 1”
“If you call my name too, I could become your meaning too….
What if you don't accept my confession? How can you look me in the eye? It's okay.
Because you mean something special to me.
Thank you, my first love when I was fourteen.
---From Volume 1
“I don’t know for sure, but I think I know a little bit that first love hurts like a wisdom tooth.
The closer you are to each other, the more comforting it can be, but it is also true that because you are close, you can easily get hurt. " --- From "Volume 1"
“I feel comfortable when I’m alone, but I feel a little lonely today.
“Like a star that stands alone and faintly, I feel like I am closest to myself.” --- From “Volume 2”
“You need to meet people who don’t use bad tricks and who treat you with care.
You must have bright eyes.
“That’s how you can protect yourself.” ---From “Volume 2”
“Children are quick.
I instinctively know who to mark with a stain.
People may believe what they want to believe as the 'truth' rather than what is 'fact'.
“So that I don’t become a stain.” ---From “Volume 3”
“I want to accept myself as I am, no more, no less.
I figured it out this time.
“It takes great courage to give up.” ---From “Volume 3”
“Haetae.
That day you taught me a lesson.
I will love you enough so that you will have no regrets.
I will remember the time I spent with you for a long time.
“Because that’s how I won’t forget you.”

Publisher's Review
Webtoons and poetry meet, the Youth Poetry Series is published!
'Youth Heart Poetry' is a series that includes poems that are good for teenagers to read, including those included in textbooks, along with webtoons depicting the daily lives of teenagers.
'Youth Poetry' will offer a new way to read poetry to teenagers who find poetry difficult, those who have not been exposed to poetry since graduating from school, and those who want to read poetry with students in various ways in educational settings.
『Poetry Sister』 A poem of the heart drawn by poet Shin Mina!
Poetry is incorporated into webtoons that capture the vivid daily lives of teenagers.
Poet Shin Mina, who published the poetry collection 『Singo, Called』 and the poetry essay collection 『Poetry Sister』, is now trying to comfort the hearts of young people with 『Youthful Heart Poetry: Hello, Haetae』 (3 volumes total).
Poet Shin Mina personally selected poems that would be good for teenagers to read, including those included in middle school Korean language textbooks, and drew a webtoon with a total of 61 episodes based on the content.
It is said that over the past two years, the poet's room was filled with sketchbooks piled up to knee height, depicting the process of the main characters, Grass and Haetae, growing strong.
Poet Shin Mina recalled a pump that would gushing out water when you poured water in it and pumped it out, and she wanted to open a new era of poetry reading in the form of 'Si-Tun (詩+Webtoon)', like pouring water in to draw water.
To achieve this, rather than simply expressing the content of the poem in a picture, we created a complete story containing the daily lives of young people, and each phrase of the poem was naturally incorporated into the picture.
“When I called your name, you became a ‘moment’ for me,” is a monologue from the scene where the main character, Jandi, confesses to the boy she likes.
If you call my name too, I could become your meaning too… ” (Volume 1, pp. 227-229) Kim Chun-su’s poem “Flower” unfolds as if it were representing the inner thoughts of adolescents, and Ho-yeon’s words that the ginkgo tree that gives off a terrible smell to protect its fruit looks admirable are infused with Ham Min-bok’s poem “Poison is Beautiful” (Volume 2, p. 210).
When Haetae, another main character in this book and a celestial spirit, contemplates whether to return to the heavenly world or live on earth, Frost's poem "The Road Not Walked," which represents Haetae's mind, fits in perfectly (vol. 3, page 151).
The growth diary of Zandi and Haetae, where webtoons and poetry are perfectly combined in each episode, features a total of 60 poems, and the full text of the poems is also included at the end of each episode.
It includes poems that are often included in textbooks, such as Kim So-wol's "Azaleas," Baek Seok's "Sura," Yun Dong-ju's "Prologue," and Shin Kyeong-rim's "East Sea," as well as poems that are not included in textbooks and that would be good for young people to read, such as Kim Seon-woo's "On Loneliness," Park No-hae's "Look at Your Sky," and Bok Hyo-geun's "The Warmest Evening in the World."
These poems further immerse you in the story with the exciting events of the grass and the sea turtle meeting and parting repeatedly.
For young people who find poetry difficult, and for all of us who have avoided poetry.
A new way to read poetry that will keep your heart sparkling clear.
“I could relate to the pain between unrequited love and friendship because it was portrayed so well.
“The main character is also 14 years old, the same age as me, so it’s even more immersive!”
“I read webtoons and poetry together, so the poetry wasn’t difficult at all.”
“If Literature Master tells me to read this and write a review instead of reading boring classic literature, then that’s okay!”
“I liked that I could become more immersed in the story through poetry.
“I don’t know why, but I was crying at the end.”
“A must-have for school libraries, and the best book for Korean language and literature teachers!”
These are the reactions of teenagers and teachers who read the Mind Sitoon series first.
"Hello, Haetae" was also selected for the 2019 Serial Comics Production Support Project by the Korea Creative Content Agency.
As can be seen from the reactions of youth and teachers, it received attention as a new project that attempted to combine webtoons and poetry.
As a book planned with the hope of becoming a stepping stone that makes poetry more approachable, "Hello, Haetae" will present a fun and new way to read poetry to teenagers who find poetry difficult, people who have not been exposed to poetry since graduating from school, and those who want to read poetry with students in various ways in educational settings.
