Started to share the joy of science
Talent Donation Science Lecture Series "October Sky"

'October Sky', which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2019, began on September 3, 2010, at the suggestion of Professor Jaeseung Jeong.
Professor Jaeseung Jeong posted on Twitter, “Are there any scientists who would like to donate to give lectures at small city libraries with me?” Within 8 hours, over 100 lecture donors had gathered, and thanks to them, the first “October Sky” was able to open in 29 libraries across the country.
Since then, 'October Sky' has been held annually in about 40 small and medium-sized city libraries with about 100 talented donors.

'October Sky' is not a famous lecture given by world-renowned scholars to an audience that has paid expensive tuition.
This is a science lecture event open to anyone who volunteers to come down to the local area on the day of the event and give a science lecture.
Anyone who loves science, including professors, researchers, graduate students, teachers, and journalists, can participate.
Moreover, it is not held in a well-decorated lecture hall, but in a small library with less than 100 seats, and the audience is mostly middle and high school students and local residents.
We do not receive any money other than book sponsorships, and all activities, including event preparation and operation, are carried out solely through talent donations.

The reason 'October Sky' has been able to continue until now is thanks to the talented donors who have not forgotten the emotion of the lecture.
I was able to continue 'October Sky' because I could not forget the students who traveled a long distance by bus, the passion of the scientist who prepared for three days for a 40-minute lecture and drove all day to a distant city to give the lecture, and the kind consideration of the librarian who had never prepared a science lecture before.

This year's 'October Sky' will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 2 PM.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, 181 lectures prepared at 100 libraries across the country await thousands of young people who dream of becoming scientists.
This time, as always, the event was prepared solely with the passion of talented volunteers, and experts from various fields will share various scientific stories with young people.
'October Sky' will continue to show children and teenagers who consider science difficult and a headache to give up on that science is interesting, friendly, and close to us.

We would like to put our motto, "Today's scientists meet tomorrow's scientists," into practice.
I want to awaken them to the wonders of the universe, nature, life, and consciousness through wonderful lectures.
(Omitted) If even one of the young people who attended the lecture at 'October Sky' becomes a scientist or engineer and contributes to making the world a better place, we will always prepare 'October Sky'.

Jeong Jae-seung, representative of the October Sky Preparation Committee
