Park Sang-mi's Dictionary of Concerns: Youth and Parents
Description
Book Introduction
Speaking, writing, and making movies that save the hearts of those who are hurting
A book for teenagers and parents filled with Park Sang-mi's unique solutions!
The power to open the door to the world comes from a heart that believes in itself.
If I build my mental muscle and believe in myself, I can achieve my dreams.
Teacher Sangmi Park, who has been a guide to healing people's hearts through videos, books, and various activities, has published "Sangmi Park's Dictionary of Concerns" (for teenagers and parents) for teenagers and their parents.
『Park Sang-mi's Dictionary of Worries』 is the title of a column serialized in [Sports Kyunghyang] that has been consistently receiving much love. In the youth and parent edition, this book provides warm comfort, saying that it is not your fault, that you are not the only one, and that youth can read it as if they were having a conversation with teacher Park Sang-mi when they want to rely on someone, be comforted, and lean on someone.
This is a dictionary of worries that you can open and gain wisdom from at any time, whether you are feeling depressed, curious, angry, lost, upset, lonely, anxious, worried, or afraid.
Through counseling, we help you realize where the power of mental healing comes from and answer questions about what to do when things are really difficult.
If there is an adult who reaches out to me when I am having a hard time, I tell them that I should hold that hand tightly, and I guide them on the path to becoming the master of their own emotions by focusing on themselves and getting to know themselves.
I must develop the muscles of my heart to protect and care for my heart.
This shows us that we can be free from the emotions that weigh us down, such as loneliness, alienation, and inferiority, without having to wander around looking for someone to lean on.
I also recommend this book to parents because it will be of great help in helping them understand their children's minds and learn how to communicate with them through counseling for their adolescent concerns.
Also, through an interview with BTS, which was conducted by Professor Park Sang-mi in Berlin, Germany in 2014, when BTS was not very famous in Korea, the author explains why fans around the world are crazy about idol philosophers who ask about dreams and the meaning of life, and helps teenagers find their dreams.

Into the book
If I can overcome the pain I experienced in childhood, I can grow into the person I dream of.
As long as I don't give up on myself, it's fine.
If you believe in me, you can achieve your dreams.
--- p.18
Don't cry alone.
If you feel unhappy, especially because of your home environment, it's not your fault.
If you need help, reach out to good adults first.
And don't let go of the hand of an adult who is holding your hand.
It's not a bad thing to have an inferiority complex.
The best energy for growth is inferiority complex.
--- p.21
We also need to pay attention to the stories of the marginalized, the stories that are full of wounds and tears.
Because someone's attention can change people, heal them, and even change the world a little.
--- p.33
Remember, we are in a transitional period of growth, going through normal developmental stages.
It's a perfectly normal process.
It's normal to have mood swings.
What's going on in my brain? Knowing this will help me understand myself, regulate my emotions, and make better choices.
--- p.46
“I hope you understand that my brain is very busy and noisy right now due to the expansion of my frontal lobe, so I am not yet able to do the adult-like behavior that you want me to do.” --- p.49
Stuck in the hell of the past, pouring my time and emotions into wishing the misfortune of the person who hurt me is not revenge, it's killing me.
--- p.60
I thought I was insignificant, but I actually had a lot to offer to others.
The number of 'reasons why life is better' started to increase every day.
--- p.106
If there are three reasons to die, there are at least 30 reasons to live.
When things are so hard and I'm so depressed, I can't even think of a reason to live.
I need someone to find it with me.
If you ask for help and someone reaches out and takes your hand, don't let go! --- p.110
It's important for both the person and those around them to recognize that apathy isn't just about suddenly becoming bored with their daily routine and becoming listless.
Remember that there was a time before when you tried and tried to do something, and you learned that no matter how hard you tried, it was useless, and as a result, you ended up in a state of helplessness.
--- p.127
The most precious thing in the world is myself.
Listen to yourself.
You can trust me as much as you love me.
That's the biggest energy that raises me.
--- p.233
Walking the same path as everyone else isn't the answer! Even if you take a different path, if you embrace it as a time to "cherish your life and nurture yourself," your life will change! I hope you use this time, which means temporarily shrinking to run further, as a time to recharge and nurture yourself! --- p.235
Folks, there are many doors in this world that may seem impossible to open, but if you knock hard and earnestly, they will open.
That power comes from ‘a heart that believes in me.’
Everyone, please remember this.
You have to believe in yourself to achieve your dreams.
As long as I don't give up on myself, it's fine.

Publisher's Review
Book structure
Chapter 1 features special lectures by Professor Park Sang-mi, currently a beloved YouTuber. These lectures include "When Scars Become Patterns" and "The Healing Power of Film," given on CBS's "15 Minutes to Change the World," as well as the "Dream-Over-Dream Career Lecture" given by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.
It was also shared so that it can be viewed through the QR code in the book and the YouTube URL.
Chapter 2, A Wise Emotional Lifestyle for Teenagers - "Knowing Myself to Grow Myself" reveals the secrets of the brain as to why teenagers inevitably experience emotional ups and downs, and shares solutions for how teenagers can communicate with their parents.
It also provides solutions to deal with feeling angry and irritated for no reason.
Chapter 3, Secret Room: Mental Counseling Room - “I Develop My Own Mental Muscles” introduces the various stories of teenagers who have sent letters of concern to Sam Sang-mi, and Sam Sang-mi offers customized solutions.
In particular, when you feel like dying, when you are hurt by others' words, when you want to be loved, when you want to find your aptitude and dreams, etc., not only teenagers but also adults often have concerns, and sometimes she gives warm and wise advice like a friend or the older sister next door.
Chapter 4, “The young people who achieved their dreams that Sam Sang-mi met - “If I focus on myself, the path will open up” contains photos and writings that Sam Sang-mi herself took while interviewing BTS in Berlin, Germany five years ago.
On that day, when BTS's success was already predicted, their footsteps were recorded in detail to inform the youth of why BTS was bound to succeed.
Chapter 5, Youth Asks and Teacher Sangmi Answers - “If You Knock Earnestly, the Door Will Open” is an interview in which teacher Sangmi Park asks and answers questions that youth have always been curious about, such as what she does and why she does it.
The teacher's past experiences and current activities show us that there are many doors in the world that may seem unopenable, but will open if you knock hard enough.
And that strength comes from ‘believing in myself,’ so I send you my support so that you can believe in yourself and achieve your dreams.
Author's Note, Preface
“The pain I experience today will one day become a burning hope for someone.”
The question I get asked most often when I give lectures is, “What pain have you overcome?”
I repeated a year in high school.
I was really bad at studying when I was in 3rd grade of middle school.
I was a kid who always got scolded at school… … .
But if I can overcome the pain I experienced as a child, I can grow into the person I dream of.
As long as I don't give up on myself!
While I was studying for the college entrance exam, my father said to me, "Sangmi, your dream is to become a writer, right? Go to the library and read lots of books and watch lots of movies.
At your age, you are probably the only young person in Korea who can read books and watch good movies to their heart's content.
“Daughter, the pain you are going through now will become fertilizer for you to speak and write in the future to save others who are hurting like you,” he said.
I wasn't sure if a worthless child like me could become that kind of person, but my father's words saved me.
Is there someone by my side right now who believes in me?
Am I being that person to someone?
Is there anyone who is going through a long tunnel of pain right now?
I will always believe in you and support you.
I hope that through this book, young people will gain comfort, courage, and wisdom in life.
Additionally, adults hope to learn how to read their children's minds and communicate with them.
So, I sincerely hope that young people and adults who read this book will have open conversations and become a little closer to each other.
* All proceeds from this book will be used to support books and counseling services for prisons, juvenile detention centers, and single mother facilities.
The young people who achieved their dreams through Sam Sang-mi
Interviewing BTS in Berlin in 2014!
“Wake up and listen to yourself!”
I already had a feeling they would succeed five years ago.
I looked closely at those faces that I thought were as handsome as sculptures.
I don't think I've ever seen young men with such sparkling eyes.
I could smell the fresh scent of grass on the faces of young people who were madly advancing toward their own dreams, the dreams they had found.
One by one, we shook hands warmly.
“Thank you for introducing Korea to the world.
You are patriots!”
Since I finished my interviews in 2014, I've been telling pop culture experts that BTS would be this successful.
So their success is not surprising, but rather heartwarming and tearful.
The question they posed to young people around the world at the UN in 2019.
I heard the answer to the question, "What is your name? Tell me about yourself?" five years ago, in a small waiting room backstage at a Berlin concert.
BTS's competition is themselves.
To constantly surpass themselves, they will be up all night making music, singing, and dancing.
I believe that their challenges will not end even in 10 years or 20 years.
-Idol philosophers who ask about dreams and their meaning, their run is endless.
