Note

Into the book
The desire to move toward a deeper, clearer, and more enlightened world is often thwarted by the gravity of reality.
People say that you should just boldly throw away what you need to throw away, but the problem is that throwing it away is not as easy as it sounds.
(Omitted) People pursue new things, but also cling to the familiar.
The comfort and solace that comes from familiarity is a temptation that is difficult to shake off.
(Omitted) Leaving means becoming vulnerable.
It's like becoming a snail that has to live without a shell.
Because of the fear of the unfamiliar, people cling to the familiar world.
A life of dependence is a life centered on possession, not existence.

Our hearts, bruised by worries of all kinds, scream at the slightest trial and sway in the slightest breeze.
I try to pray, but fleeting thoughts come to mind and distract me.
God seems far away.
Those close to us, rather than being a comfort, sometimes come across as a heavy burden.
At times like that, the will to live a good life weakens and even one's calling becomes blurred.
What should I do?

When desires are excessive, a person cannot live as the subject of his own life.
Because we become slaves to the dictates of our desires.
Like a coachman who holds the reins of a fierce horse, we too must be able to properly hold the reins of desire.
Still, we must order an expulsion towards untamed desires.
When we are not swayed by excessive desires, we can enjoy the gift of freedom and create space to welcome others into our lives.

Bystandership doesn't end with bystandership.
Edom took advantage of Judah's trials to maximize its own interests.
They did not hesitate to plunder, and even captured and sold people fleeing the war.
Sin grows in size by inhabiting human greed.
God declares the destruction of Edom.
When greed, not justice, dominates people's hearts, a society can be said to be on the verge of destruction.

Publisher's Review
Dreaming of a new world, towards true freedom,
Christ's invitation to boldly embark on an adventure of faith!

Pastor Kim Ki-seok's second essay, following "Attitudes Toward Valuable Things," presented by Viator.

In a world where money rules, humans are merely consumers.
We only 'use' things, we do not 'enjoy' them.
We just endure another day with our weary souls, exploiting ourselves and competing with others to possess the endless stream of new products.
A world that institutionalizes greed suffocates us, and even today, we are consumed with the task of spinning the wheel of desire.
We become so accustomed to the life of a consumer that we struggle with anxiety and obsession every day, desperately trying to have more and become a bigger person without even realizing where and how things are broken.

The author advises modern people that if they reduce their desires, their worries will also decrease.
We are encouraged to practice a life of having a little less and living a little more inconveniently, a life of being a warm home to our neighbors in need, and a life of remaining silent in an unjust world.
It consists of four parts: ‘The Prison That Suffocates Me’, ‘The Infilled Bowl of Greed’, ‘Twisted Thoughts toward Neighbors and the World’, and ‘The Journey to True Freedom’.

An infilled bowl of greed
People live with their own desires.
Is desire bad? No.
It is the desire within us that gives us the will to live.
But if you fall into the trap of desire, you can never be happy.
Because we become slaves to the dictates of desire.
Excessive desires ruin me, ruin my relationships, and make the world a cruel place.
So, the author emphasizes, “Like a coachman who grabs the reins of a fierce horse, we too must know how to properly grab the reins of desire.”
Only when we are free from the sway of desire do we receive the gift of freedom and find room to welcome others into our lives, and only the joy we derive from sharing, caring, and serving can fill the emptiness of the soul.

A Faithful Adventure Toward True Freedom
Abram had to leave his homeland, his relatives, and his father's house, and Jacob had to wander from place to place, sleeping on a stone as a pillow.
Joseph, who had been showered with his father's love, and Moses, who lived as a prince in Egypt, both had to leave their familiar worlds.
The Bible constantly calls us to leave.
But saying you're leaving is no different from saying you're becoming vulnerable.
So we cling to the familiar world and try to cover up the anxiety of existence with possessions.
But even if we don't want it, limit situations are bound to come.
The awareness of finitude, illness, death, and nihilism strike suddenly and shake our lives to their very roots.
We become frustrated when we realize that the things we believed would keep us safe in life are not doing anything.
But the author says that this is the moment to leap forward.
It is time to embark on an adventure of faith, leaving behind what you love and are obsessed with and stepping into an unfamiliar world.

The preacher's cry
In a stormy sea of desire, can the preacher's voice reach anyone's ears? What does it mean to live as a preacher in a reality where people cling to illusions, lacking the courage to face reality? Why do I continue to shout and write, even when I often feel the powerlessness of words? The author asks himself this question.
And he answers that question like this:
“To find your own way, not to be persuaded by the world, to let those who are searching somewhere know that there are people here too.”
Do you dream of a different life, a better world? If so, begin your journey of faith with the author right now.
It's not too late.
