When you slip from grace
Description
Book Introduction
A book that helps believers who used to live in grace understand the factors that cause them to fall away from grace and fall into corruption, and to reflect on whether this dangerous corruption is currently taking place within their own hearts!
This is a book I would like to read to Christians in this day and age who only wish for God to give them more grace, but who make no effort to remain in grace themselves!
When you slip from grace, ask for directions there.
Why did we lose our first love? The cause of our slip from grace lies within us.
The light of the Word that shows the way to those who have fallen from grace and are in danger of corruption!
I encourage all who are wandering, the fountain of grace blocked by the dominion of remaining sin, to stand before these 100 questions.
Why would a Christian who was in a state of grace slip from grace and become corrupt? It is because of sin.
No matter how sanctified one may be, there is still a residual sin within Christians living on this earth.
That sin is a subtle sin that has survived and avoided the countless swords of death in the struggle of a godly life in pursuit of Jesus Christ.
If we neglect the race of faith even for a moment, sin cleverly creeps in through the cracks in our broken boundaries and expands its influence.
So it brings us little by little into a state of dominion over sin, and blocks all the wonderful fountains of grace that were opened with our first conversion.
Grace drives away sin, and sin drives away grace.
Therefore, if grace has disappeared from the heart of a Christian, it is because sin has prevailed.
But this simple understanding alone doesn't tell us what to watch out for and where to focus our zeal when we actually have to fight against sin.
Only by having a more concrete answer to this question can we stop the empty gestures that have plagued us every time we retreated from the state of grace and move forward into a life of constant enjoyment of God's grace.
Pastor Namjun Kim's new book, "When We Slip from Grace," presents a path to recovery in a question-and-answer format for Christians who have fallen into a corrupt state and are struggling and wandering.
Inspired by the great 17th-century theologian John Owen's "Indwelling Sin in Believers," this book is concisely structured to help readers understand the subject more clearly and apply it to their lives. However, it also contains profound content on the problem of sin remaining within believers and the doctrines of grace and corruption, providing essential and specific answers to the questions, "What frees me from the dominion of grace? Why can I not be free from sin even though I am saved?"
The book divides the cases where believers fall away from grace into ‘when they are not wary of sin,’ ‘when they fall into worldly love and lose their wisdom,’ ‘when they are led by lust,’ ‘when they accumulate the truth as conceptual knowledge but do not put it into practice,’ ‘when they lose self-denial,’ and ‘when they become negligent in their prayer life.’ It writes detailed questions for each case and then suggests meditations to answer them, so that readers can thoroughly check and discipline their own state of mind by following the questions.
By following these 100 questions to reflect on your own faith, you will gain a clearer understanding of the amazing grace God gives and the inner corruption that weakens the power of that grace. You will also be able to clarify the intellectual confusion that arises when you must contend with the possibility of remaining sin even while living a life of sanctification.
In this way, we can escape from the meaningless attempts of self-contradiction and the state of self-abandonment, and come to a practical realization of how to live a life that guards against the corruption of the heart and continuously abides in the grace of God.

Into the book
§ Author's Preface.
Are you living with the grace of salvation? p.
Among 4-7
It is a strange thing that a person who was an unbeliever met Jesus Christ and became a believer.
But it is even more amazing that a believer always lives in the fullness of grace.
It was after I had been in ministry for quite some time that I came to realize this fact.
From then on, I began to study holiness and sin intensively.
And he preached a lot about the life of the Holy Spirit.
This book is based on a series of sermons I preached around that time.
At that time, I preached six times on how believers fall away from the state of grace, based on the verse, “It is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me” (Romans 7:17).
Of course, not all of the original content preached at that time is included in this book.
This book is designed to convey its content very concisely.
I wrote this book in an accessible way, hoping that readers would understand the topic more clearly and apply it more clearly to their real lives.
The book's extensive table of contents is based on the work of the great 17th-century theologian John Owen.
I got the inspiration for this book while reading John Owen's "Indwelling Sin in Believers."
However, the contents that have been released are the product of my research and thinking.
The most important issue in life is salvation.
And the most important issue in faith is to live while preserving the grace of salvation.
The former sometimes happens miraculously, but the latter doesn't always happen that way.
Living with the grace of salvation requires both the transcendent grace poured out from heaven and the everyday grace of persuading through the intellect.
In other words, living with grace, which is the influence of God's love, means enjoying God's love poured down unilaterally from heaven in our daily lives and also experiencing God's love in our daily piety.
The workings of the mind are so profound and secret.
So, just as no one can say that they know God completely, no one can guarantee that they know their own heart completely.
This book is like a milestone at a crossroads for those who are seeking the path of faith between God and the world, between themselves and their hearts.
I dedicate this book to those who want to keep their first love, or to those who have slipped from grace but want to move towards grace again.
If you read with your heart and not with your eyes, you will pray.
§ Question 10.
Do you enjoy the grace of new conversion every day? p.
Among 44-45
“Exhort one another daily, while it is called today,
“See that none of you is hardened by the deceitfulness of sin” (Hebrews 3:13).
One morning, two people woke up.
They both stretched heavily, opened their eyes together, and then stood up.
However, those who witnessed this scene reacted very differently, even though the two people woke up at the same time.
Because one person was a person who had woken up from sleep, while the other person was a person who had died and came back to life.
There is a great difference between the first conversion and the subsequent conversion in what they are turning from.
The first conversion is a turning from a state of death, but subsequent conversions are turning from a state of temporary sleep.
If the first conversion was an event that brought light to a place where there was no light, then subsequent conversions can be said to be events that brought bright light back to a place that had become dark.
Our first conversion is a wonderful event that gives new life to our souls, but to maintain it as it is constantly renewed, it must be accompanied by a constant effort to participate in the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit.
Despite having a powerful first conversion experience, many people live as Christians in name only.
Because there is a lack of repeated experiences of conversion.
No matter how fervently you once loved God, you may now be loving sin.
This is because of the original sin, or corruption, that remains within us.
Therefore, we need not only a strong first conversion, but also repeated experiences of that conversion.
Because only by always keeping the grace of conversion can we live a victorious life.
Look into yourself and answer
The first conversion is a one-time event in which a dead soul is given new life from God.
On the other hand, subsequent conversions are events that repeatedly renew and enjoy the blessings of new life already enjoyed through the first conversion.
§ Question 11.
Do you want to experience conversion repeatedly? p.
Among 46-47
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
“Test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).
The first conversion brings us at once into the dominion of grace.
But the subsequent conversion is not like that.
Even if you truly repent and experience a powerful rise in prayer to God, that alone will not immediately restore the reign of grace.
It is because of the evil tendencies that have become the disposition of the mind.
This is why believers need to make practical efforts and struggles to kill sin.
All the wrong frames of the mind formed by the dominion of sin must be broken down and renewed daily by the grace of the Holy Spirit, so that the frame of grace can be re-established within us.
If you are under the attack of sin but still firmly under the rule of grace, you can shake off the temptations of your heart through a single sincere prayer.
However, if the rule of grace has already collapsed and sin has flourished, one or two prayers of repentance will not change everything.
However, with such prayer as a stepping stone, we can rise again and fight against the dominion of sin.
A new experience of conversion provides a bridgehead for fighting against sin.
When climbing a rock face, if you let your guard down and put your foot wrong, you will slip and fall.
But then, if you meet a solid stepping stone, you can stop slipping.
Of course, just because the sliding stops doesn't mean you'll automatically be lifted to a higher place.
But if you have a solid foundation, you can stand on it and climb back up.
For Christians, repeated conversion experiences serve as a good stepping stone to fight against sin.
Look into yourself and answer
The first conversion immediately establishes the reign of grace in our hearts, but subsequent conversions only provide opportunities to enter into the reign of grace.
