“Welcome to Meow Mind Snack Bar!”

Choose the menu that will solve your problems.
But don't forget!
Choices come with responsibilities.
If you don't keep your promises, there will be side effects!

Meow Heart Snack Bar, a special restaurant run by the mysterious cat 'Meow', is a realistic fantasy fairy tale based on SEL (Social Emotional Learning) for elementary school children.
By structuring topics such as the use of power, peer conflict, and respect for life into the 'efficacy-side effect' rule of the magic menu, it helps children naturally learn emotional recognition, empathy, self-regulation, and responsible behavior through stories.

Through the protagonist Jinsu, we learn about the consequences of choices and the restoration of relationships through the consequences of abusing power. The story of the talking cat chef Meow and the zombie dog shows the issues of abandonment and abuse through the language of compassion and responsibility, and the process of reconciliation with his friend Yangchi shows the stages of apology, listening, and promise to resolve conflict.

Above all, this book clearly addresses the meaning of respect for life.
The fears and wounds experienced by abandoned animals on the streets, the scars left behind by irresponsible adoptions, and the responsibility of caring for a pet as a family member are calmly explained at a child's level, and the principles of care such as "find, protect, and live together" are deeply ingrained in them.

Meow Heart Snack Shop is a story that fosters the strength, responsibility for life, and empathy for living together, armed with affection so that today's children will not waver in the face of tomorrow's choices.

Publisher's Review
Meow Mind Snack Bar, a magical healing space
A healing story like a bandage for the heart from a former school nurse.

‘Meow Heart Snack Shop’ is not just a simple restaurant.
This is because the cat owner, Meow, has the ability to read children's tightly closed hearts.
Meow looks into the pain of children and comforts them with food.
Customers who come here can freely tell their stories in front of Meow and receive a menu.
The menu is full of keywords that will comfort your heart.
Meow's magical foods, such as 'Strawberry Croissant that can talk to animals', 'Chocolate Donut that can read your friends' minds', 'Mango Juice that helps you find lost items', and 'Lemon Ice Cream that lets you run as much as you want for an hour', become the keys to making children's wishes come true.
The fact that the author is a former school nurse is at the root of this work.
Meow is very similar to the appearance of a school nurse comforting children who come to the infirmary.
The commonality between the health center and the snack bar is that they both strangely want to go there and rest.
The author's experience of watching children who had endured pain and only then came to the health center to be healed and find healing, and wanting to comfort those little hearts, came to fruition in the form of 'Meow Heart Snack Shop'.

A story of growth and friendship, trials and tribulations
A perfect coming-of-age story filled with choices, adventure, responsibility, emotion, and friendship.

Is it because he has a weak heart? Jinsu is timid and fearful.
Jinsu has to face a scary dog on his way to school.
I tried setting traps and shouting, “Come if you want!” but in the end, Jinsoo had to run away.
Moreover, because of the incident where he lost his friend Yangchi's dog not long ago, he became estranged from his best friend Yangchi.
This Jinsu is the first customer of Meow Meow Mind Snack Shop.
The menu Meow gave me was full of dishes that seemed like they would solve all my worries in one go.
But the choice is up to the guests who visit here.
If Jinsu had chosen the 'Strawberry Croissant that can talk to animals', there would have been room for him to talk to the zombie dog.
If you had chosen the 'Mango Juice that Finds Lost Things', you would have been able to resolve the conflict with your friend Yangchi by finding his lost dog.
In the end, Jinsu's choice was 'a hot dog imbued with the courage and strength of a brave hunting dog.'
But will gaining courage and strength truly solve all of Jinsu's worries? The premise that "if you choose a menu and don't keep your promise, there will be side effects" becomes a crucial theme within the story.
Jinsu, who became brave after eating a 'hot dog filled with courage and strength', begins to pay the price for his choices and actions when he starts using his strength and courage for evil.
The real story begins here.

Jinsu turned into a dog, just as the side effects written on the menu said.
He feels even more miserable when he compares himself to the invincible self he had just seen, now that he has become a weak and feeble puppy.
However, thanks to being transformed into a puppy, Jinsu comes to understand the circumstances of zombie dogs, overcomes his momentary fear, and embarks on an adventure to save abandoned dogs.
He also plans an escape operation with his friend Yangchi and an abandoned dog, and they resolve the animosity that had built up between them, reconcile, and restore trust.
When Jinsu, who became stronger after eating the magic hotdog, defeated the zombie dog, it seemed like he easily solved his problem thanks to Meowth.
But ultimately, this story shows the growth process of a timid child overcoming trials on his own and developing problem-solving skills, and it tells a story of true courage and warm friendship.
The final scene of a zombie dog seeking truth resonates deeply and also conveys a message of respect for life.

Social questions embedded in fairy tales
Animal testing: Should we do it or not?

Cosmetics, detergents, shampoos... Have children ever considered that someone might have sacrificed their life to create the products we use every day? Another key feature of the Meow Heart Snack Shop series is that it incorporates topics that could become social issues into its stories, providing an opportunity to consider one's own perspective.
The social issue covered in Volume 1 is ‘animal testing.’
The zombie dog is actually a stray dog that escaped from an animal laboratory.
As he confesses his painful past to Jinsu, who has been turned into a dog, the cruel reality of illegal animal testing is revealed in the story.
The “Are you curious about that~” section at the back of the book briefly introduces animal testing and presents pros and cons of animal testing, thereby instilling awareness in children.
The question arises in the face of the reality that 600 million animals are used in experiments worldwide each year.
Is animal testing truly necessary? There's no right answer, but simply asking the question provides children with an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of respect for life, the public good, and sacrifice.
