Joseon Dynasty Siltalk 1
Description
Book Introduction
The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty Recreated Through Messenger The webtoon "Joseon Dynasty Annals Talk", which features characters from the "Joseon Dynasty Annals" having conversations through a virtual chat window called "Toktalk," has been compiled into a book. The lines they use in real-time chat are full of typos, but they are so realistic and the metaphors are excellent that they are creating a new craze for 'history study'. Anecdotes such as 'Prime Minister Hwang Hui's Challenge to Retire with Honor', 'Protect the Young Citizens', 'What if You Take a Bribe?', and 'King Munjong and the Plague' became topics of conversation because they were connected to social issues. Throughout the first half of 2015, media outlets competed to cover the enormous impact of the new content called “Joseon Dynasty Real Talk.” Among Naver webtoons that focus on daily life, this is a unique historical webtoon based on actual historical records rather than fiction, so not only history book readers but also Korean history majors and history nerds leave comments, so the level of the comments is so high that you can say you can learn about history just by reading the best comments. It is no exaggeration to say that almost everyone who likes history is watching [Siltalk], as it provides explanations of the parts that [Siltalk] did not cover, as well as historical interpretations. Even those who are not usually interested in history or find it difficult to understand will find it difficult to escape the excitement once they are immersed in 'Conversations of Those in the Joseon Dynasty.' It has become a hot topic not only among general readers but also among researchers and history teachers, and readers are reporting that it is actually being used as a resource in school history classes. |

Publisher's Review
Joseon's Family has arrived! Would you like to add them as friends?
[Joseon Dynasty Real Talk] is a historical comic series that reconstructs Joseon history in chronological order based on webtoons.
The kings who formed the Joseon Dynasty are divided into 9 families, and each family is given a character that matches their historical characteristics, so you can meet the living Joseon kings, not the tired “Taeseongtaesemundanse…”
[Joseon Dynasty Real Talk] Volume 1 covers the birth of the Joseon family and three families from King Taejo to King Yeonsangun.
It contains the story of the 'founding family' (Taejo, Jeongjong, and Taejong) who founded the Joseon Dynasty, the 'wise king family' (Sejong, Munjong, and Danjong) who laid the foundation for the Joseon Dynasty, and the 'tyrant family' (Sejo, Yejong, Seongjong, and Yeonsangun) who usurped the throne through a coup.
The reason Seongjong, who tried to become a good king while carrying the trauma of Sejo, entered the 'tyrant family' is because he was Sejo's grandson.
The book also includes a column called “Silok Magnifier” written by a history major, which allows readers to gain a richer understanding of Joseon history.
The next two volumes, titled 'Family Action', will mainly cover the activities of Joseon families who survived the purge and two wars.
It is a story of the bloody Joseon Dynasty, covering the reigns of King Jungjong to King Gyeongjong.
Volume 3, titled 'The Light and Shadow of the Family', features families from the Joseon Dynasty's most brilliant era, the reign of King Yeongjeong, to the late Joseon Dynasty, when the country was on the verge of ruin.
It will cover the period from Sunjo to Sunjong.
[Joseon Dynasty Real Talk], serialized on Naver, is an omnibus comic, but in this book, the manuscript has been reorganized in chronological order for the convenience of readers.
And the 27 kings were grouped by theme into 11 families.
Rather than the dry and boring “Taejeongtaesemundanse…”, we hope you will get a vivid glimpse into the daily lives of the Joseon kings who lived as father and son, uncle and nephew.
Additionally, the wonderful text accompanying the comics will provide you with not only fun but also valuable knowledge.
I hope this book and the people in it will become your good friends.
_From the author's note (Invincible Pink)
Recommendation
A book that uses the devices of comics and sense to make Joseon history more lively and vivid.
Through the dialogue and psychological states of historical figures, it gives the feeling and emotion of being inside the historical site of Joseon.

As someone who teaches history, I was giving a lot of thought to the task of popularizing Korean history when I happened to come across 'Joseon Dynasty Siltalk' and found it interesting.
It is a 21st century interpretation of Korean history.
I believe that we have created another paradigm for popularizing Korean history through the easily accessible channel of webtoons.
In particular, I believe that the content composition in the form of conversations using Talk is a combination of IT and humanities in Korean history.
The fresh and fun composition stands out, and above all, the content is useful.
This book is recommended not only to those who like Korean history, but also to those who find it fearful and difficult.
Seol Min-seok (Etoos representative instructor, Taegeon Edu CEO)
History is communication! History used to be a fun and engaging subject in school, but somewhere along the way, it became something I avoided.
Because we don't know why we learn history or because it's not fun.
[Joseon Dynasty Siltalk] not only serves as an excellent textbook for overcoming these problems, but also serves as a space for communication that transcends boundaries among researchers, students, and the public.
I hope that this book will spark your interest in history and provide an opportunity for you to connect with history.
