A new work by artists Jeon Seung-bae and Kang In-sook, who create a unique genre by crossing over animation and picture books.

"Battery Dad" is a new picture book by Jeon Seung-bae and Kang In-sook, who are active as animation directors, puppeteers, and picture book authors.
The main character is AA batteries, which power large and small objects frequently used in our lives, such as toys, door locks, and remote controls.
The original animated film of the same name, "Battery Daddy" (2020), affectionately conveys the energy shared by a family with a cute and unique imagination, and was selected for the production support of independent short animations by the Korea Creative Content Agency, the competition section of the Italian Giffoni Film Festival, and an invitation to the Pantoce International Animation Film Festival in Switzerland and the Wonju Rooftop Film Festival.
The emotion of stop-motion animation, which has garnered attention both domestically and internationally, has been reborn as a picture book, “Battery Dad,” offering a unique kind of enjoyment.
The two authors reimagined and filmed the characters and backgrounds of the 8,000-frame animation to fit into a 40-page picture book.
As a result, new scenes that could not be seen in animation were created.
The book includes a QR code that links to the original animation, adding to the fun of comparing the animation and the picture book, and the joy of the whole family sitting together and watching the book and movie.


Cheer up, Battery Daddy!

"Battery Dad" begins with the voice of a child bragging about his father.
A versatile dad who plays instruments well and drives well too! His true identity is none other than a battery.
Battery Dad is active in every corner of the house.
It entertains children with moving toys, keeps empty homes safe behind door locks, and even sends electricity through an electronic mosquito net to drive away uninvited mosquitoes in the middle of the night.
But even Battery Dad, who seemed like he could solve anything, was faced with a crisis.
One rainy day, the fate of people who could not travel due to the swollen valley waters was left to the battery dad in the flashlight.
Battery Dad tries his best to keep the flashlight lit, but rain pours into it, putting it in danger of discharging.
Will Battery Dad be able to overcome the obstacles and return home safely to his loving family?

A family story that fills your heart with color

"Battery Dad" affectionately looks behind the scenes at a father who seems like a hero who can do anything.
And through the reunion scene of the battery family, which is the highlight of the story, it warmly conveys that the energy given by loved ones is the force that moves us forward.
The scene where the battery family, who had been diligently spending their days, embrace each other and recharge will bring a happy smile to every reader's lips.
The two authors completed this work with gratitude toward their families, feeling that they were living with more support and love from their children.

A small but great world born from delicate fingertips

The imagination of the two artists, who turned AA batteries, which are commonly used in everyday life, into fathers, and AAA batteries, which are even smaller, into children, and turned even small spaces like the inside of toys and flashlights into meaningful workplaces, is both original and familiar.
The daily life of a hard-working battery dad reminds us of how many corners of the world we haven't seen, while also helping us discover the boundless power held by small beings.
Artists Jeon Seung-bae and Kang In-sook meticulously crafted small props the size of a finger joint, such as flashlights, jars, green onions, flower pots, watermelons, and slippers, using a variety of materials.
Above all, the battery family's house hidden under the floor catches the eye.
The scenery is cozy and filled with cute props, such as a tent made of books and a slide made of milk cartons and straws.
"Battery Dad" is a picture book full of secret imagination that makes you look closely at even the smallest cracks that you don't usually pay attention to.
