Even friends need manners
Description
Book Introduction
Manners maketh man? Manners maketh friends!
The secret to a child who seems to have been well-educated is manners and etiquette!

Children also need to learn and practice manners and etiquette appropriate for their age.
Manners refer to polite behavior, and etiquette refers to rules that must be observed between people.
Manners and etiquette are not mere superficialities.
It's about expressing respect and consideration through words and actions.
A well-mannered child is welcomed wherever he goes, has good interpersonal relationships, and adapts well to school life.
Harvard education expert Dr. Jini Kim and children's book author provide detailed step-by-step instructions on how to raise a child with good manners and etiquette.

"Even Friends Need Manners" is the sixth picture book in the "High Five Social-Emotional Learning Fairy Tales" series.

Into the book
What if you want to ask a friend to hang out with you?

First, approach your friend and say “Hello?”
Then show interest in what your friend is doing or playing.
Showing interest means asking questions and complimenting.
Like, “Did you make this? It’s so cool!”

“This will be fun,” I said to my friend.
Ask, “Can I do it together?”
It's okay to just play the same game next to your friend.
Then, if you help your friend by saying, “Do you need this by any chance?”
We will naturally get along with each other.
--- p.10

What if you have a rude friend?

Don't cry or get angry, just tell your friend this clearly.
“It might be a joke to you, but it makes me feel bad!”
“Do you enjoy teasing your friends?
“I’m not having any fun, so stop now!”
If you can't say something like this and just endure it
That guy won't know your heart or his own faults.

If you keep bothering me even though I clearly said no
Tell your teacher to help you.
“Teacher, I’m upset because of ○○.
“Teacher, please help me.”

You don't have to be on good terms with every friend.
You don't have to hang out with friends who keep bothering you.
That's okay though!
--- p.22

It's important to have a spirit of compromise and sharing.

Manners and etiquette don't just refer to words and actions.
You must have the heart to give in to your friends and share with them.
Manners and etiquette also come naturally.
If you think of your friend and make concessions
Next time your friend will give in to you too.

What do you do when you think and think again but still don't want to give in?
In that case, you don't have to give in.
If a friend asks you to yield, respond kindly.
“I’ll give you 10 more minutes and then I’ll give it to you.
“Can you wait a moment?”
--- p.29

Publisher's Review
Look into your friend's eyes when he or she speaks.
Ears perk up, head nod!
No matter how close you are, you must keep the line!

Manners and etiquette must be practiced repeatedly in daily life.
If you do that, you will inevitably end up nagging your child.
Instead of nagging, please read the manners textbook, “Even Friends Need Manners.”
It teaches children the minimum manners and etiquette they need to follow in a cheerful and clear manner.
It is packed with manners and etiquette needed for different situations, such as becoming close with a friend you meet for the first time, listening carefully to what your friend says, and expressing regret and gratitude.
You can also learn how to politely and confidently express your opinions to rude friends.
