Into the book
There is no textbook that sets the standard for life.
If you live diligently, certain points will be scattered throughout your life, and those points that seemed meaningless will eventually connect and become stars.
Don't try to follow the set light.
We only have our own dots and our own stars.
--- p.37
In this day and age, pursuing the 'essence' is not a trivial task.
If you try to go with the current in such a fast-moving rapid, you will be unable to accomplish anything.
Rather, what is more important in times like these is 'what idea do I have?'
This is an era where essence and authenticity are more important than ever.
--- p.54
What I want to say is that 'you need to have the effort to discover the essence, the courage to give up what you think is not the essence, and the stubbornness to believe in yourself.'
Only then can the one and only self called ‘I’ stand upright.
--- p.68
So, what is the scope of vision? Just observing what's right in front of me and my actions won't spark ideas or spark creativity.
Sometimes you have to pay attention to everything around you: a word someone says in a conference room, a conversation with friends, or even the looks of people passing by.
--- p.123
Every choice has a right and a wrong answer.
So, instead of just worrying about what is right, I hope you just make a choice.
And making that choice is the right one.
(…) The best answer to choosing one and making that choice right is to think about what is best in the current situation and put it into practice.
--- p.162
You have to give meaning to the moment.
Otherwise, our lives would be a sum of meaningless moments.
If you agree that life is a sum of moments, then seize the moment.
Make your choice right.
Trust your present.
If I give meaning to each moment, my life becomes meaningful.
If I give each moment a name and give it meaning, every moment will come to me and become the flower of my life.
--- p.172
Believe that what is right will prevail.
The right words have power.
So, I have to think about whether my judgment is right or wrong, and if I think it is right, I have to carry it out no matter what my superiors say.
I believe this is the most important attitude toward youth.
What kind of youth is that? How precious is youth, and why should I sacrifice my youth to live up to someone else's standards? Isn't that what the song says? Stop being petty and hold your head high.
Tomorrow the sun will rise again.
--- p.195
What's the most important thing to enjoy the uncharted waters of this uncharted waters? Accepting our imperfections and not being swayed by our mistakes.
It's an unanswered question.
It's inevitable that mistakes will be made.
It's a road I've never been on before.
How can you be perfect if you've never been there before? So don't be discouraged by mistakes.
It's not just me.
We sometimes think that someone's life would be free of mistakes like this, but that's not the case at all.
It's the same for everyone's life, it's unsolved.
--- p.241
Not everyone in life can choose only the best.
I am a person who made second-best choices in both college and career.
Looking back, my life choices were mostly like that.
But, my friends, who can guarantee that just because you made the best choice, your life will be a success? Sometimes, a life that makes the best of the second-best can be happier.
I've lived my life to the best of my ability and I'm satisfied with my life now.
--- p.255
Everyone, let's live as we please.
Let's live as we please, but since there is no such thing as a free lunch, let's examine what is fundamentally important, and let's live with the thought that even if we lose, we can always win, and let's live by making wise decisions and making them right, rather than choosing just any answer because it is the right answer.

Publisher's Review
Park Woong-hyun, a representative advertiser and humanities expert in Korea,
Eight Questions to Consider in Life
『Eight Words』 Reunited in a New Look
"Eight Words" is a book written by Park Woong-hyun, a representative advertising figure in Korea and the author of "Books are Axes" and "Again, Books are Axes," in which he expresses "the key questions in life that are worth thinking about at least once in your life" in eight words.
This book is based on a lecture the author gave to about 20 people in their 20s and 30s in the fall of 2012, and has been a bestseller and steady seller since its publication in 2013, selling over 500,000 copies.
What the author talked about with the young people he encountered in the lecture at the time was their attitude and direction toward life.
Park Woong-hyun divided this into eight themes: self-esteem, essence, classics, views, present, authority, communication, and life, but all the stories are connected and ultimately move in the direction of “What should we center our lives on and with what attitude should we live?”
The reissued 『Eight Words』 features a new cover that embodies the message of "looking into yourself and finding the star within you through eight words," along with changes to the format and internal illustrations. It also reflects the author's thoughts that have changed over the past 10 years and adds new examples.
Above all, we focused on leaving behind only the essence that would not change with the passage of time.
As a result, there have been major and minor changes to the book's appearance and content, but the core of the story, which the author unfolded based on his own experiences, remains valid even today.
Stories such as ‘We must look inside ourselves, not outside ourselves’, ‘Why we value essence’, ‘The power of classics that remain timeless’, ‘The importance of looking deeply’, ‘Why we must focus on the present moment’, ‘Why communication is important and how to communicate well’, and ‘Tips for living a good life’ are topics worth reconsidering in life regardless of the era or generation.
“The answer is right here, right now, in my life.” (p. 43)
“No matter what kind of media you consume, ultimately what moves people is moving their hearts.
“Authenticity is the essence.” (p. 57)
“Acknowledging that someone else’s answer cannot be my answer.
“This is the biggest reason why we must focus on the present.” (p. 161)
“If I give meaning to each moment, my life becomes meaningful.” (p. 172)
“A life lived to the fullest is beautiful, but I don’t think there is such a thing as a truly beautiful life.” (p. 269)
The power of eight words that still hold true as time goes by
“Everything changes, but nothing remains the same.
“What is it that we must essentially take with us?”
Since its publication in 2013, "Eight Words" has topped the humanities bestseller lists in all online bookstores and garnered praise from major media outlets. It has been recommended by executives and employees of companies like SK and Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance, and has been named Book of the Year by numerous local governments.
But above all, as the author said, “it received an overflowing love from readers.
“It is an amazing thing and I am so grateful.” In fact, even now, there are many readers at the author’s lectures and on social media who consider “Eight Words” to be the book of their lives.
“This book helped me reflect on myself and move forward.” “I look at it whenever I’m having a hard time.” “I can always open it and read it again.” “I want my children to read it.” “This is a book I wish I had read when I was in my twenties.” “I raised my child using ‘Eight Words’ as a parenting book.” You can find comments like these, and even now, there are many cases of reading ‘Eight Words’ together and sharing thoughts through book clubs large and small.
This kind of reader response proves the power and weight of "Eight Words" that remains unchanged over time.
The author still urges us to take his story simply as an opinion.
Throughout the book, he says, “Life is not something so trivial as to be transformed into a few lectures or a few books,” and so he hopes that “we will look inside ourselves, respect our choices, and turn those choices into answers.”
This book is packed with timeless life wisdom that you must read at least once to live a rich and happy life no matter how much time passes.
“Life doesn’t go the way I thought it would.
But it can be great.
The answer isn't just in the direction I thought.
The answer lies in all directions.
