100 Philosophical Sentences Carefully Selected by Professor Kang Yong-su

“Transcription is not simply copying, but a way to directly experience the philosopher’s thoughts.” - Kang Yong-su

It's time to meet Schopenhauer and Nietzsche, the philosophers most loved by Koreans, in person.
Professor Kang Yong-su, who captured the hearts of 600,000 readers with “Reading Schopenhauer in Your Forties,” has published “Schopenhauer x Nietzsche Manuscript Book,” which allows readers to copy and reflect on 100 famous passages containing the thoughts of the two philosophers.
We directly checked the original German text to correct any mistranslations and translated it to make it easier for modern readers to understand, and added 10 of Kang Yong-su's philosophical essays to expand the scope of thought.

Schopenhauer viewed life as suffering and sought happiness in ways that reduced that suffering.
Nietzsche, who followed him on the path of philosophy, developed his thoughts and, instead of avoiding or reducing the pain of life, he embraced even that pain and emphasized 'love of fate (Amor fati)', which affirms life as a whole by saying, "It's worth living once more."
Through this manuscript, we can learn from Schopenhauer the wisdom to sustain life in solitude, and from Nietzsche the power to embrace suffering and affirm life.

This book was specially produced with nude four-season binding.
You can see the stylish stitching design on the spine, and it opens completely 180 degrees.
Additionally, you can comfortably write with any pen using paper that has a superior writing feel.
《Schopenhauer x Nietzsche Manuscript》, which is enjoyable to read and write, is a practical book that changes your attitude toward life.
If I continue to copy each phrase 100 times, the famous quotes of the two philosophers will become my language and thoughts.
When you want to strengthen yourself in solitude, when you want to move forward again with an affirmation of life, I hope you will find a philosophical companion in this book.

Into the book
Transcription is not simply copying, but a way to directly experience the philosopher's thoughts.
Reading, engraving each word, gives a profound feeling that is completely different from reading by just turning the pages.
The important thing when transcribing is that it should not be a mindless repetition.
Schopenhauer really hated people just copying and not thinking for themselves.
Therefore, when transcribing, you must first ponder the author's intended meaning and savor the meaning hidden between sentences.
You can follow the path the author took, but sometimes you may look around and take a side road.
But at the top, everyone encounters the whole work.
By doing so, it becomes a process of filling in new ideas with my own thoughts rather than simply copying someone else's writing.
Philosophy doesn't inherently force a correct answer.
It is natural to have different thoughts even when reading the same sentence.
That is the power of philosophy.
--- From "Why do we transcribe the words of philosophers?"

It is very meaningful to read and write the thoughts of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche together.
Nietzsche read Schopenhauer's works in his youth and entered the path of becoming a philosopher.
Schopenhauer had a great influence on Nietzsche, and Nietzsche inherited his philosophy from Schopenhauer's ideas, but later tried to go beyond Schopenhauer's philosophy.
--- From "Similarities and Differences Between Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche"

This manuscript is a selection of passages from Schopenhauer and Nietzsche that I have judged to be the most valuable among the writings I have read during my research.
The ideas of the two philosophers, as well as their writing style, are exemplary and excellent.
Their writings do not remain in difficult abstractions, but rather approach our daily lives and lives in a way that is close to our hearts, and thus are still loved by many readers.
The reason the works of these two philosophers are recognized and loved worldwide is not only because of their excellent writing skills, but also because each of them firmly presented a new outlook on life.
Having lived surrounded by the thoughts and sentences of the two philosophers, I took this opportunity to ask myself, "If I could only write 100 sentences in my life, what would they be?" and chose 50 sentences each from the works of Schopenhauer and Nietzsche.
--- From "With the intention of leaving only 100 philosopher's words in my life"
