Into the book
With the publication of this book, the 'Evolution Trilogy' consisting of insects, dinosaurs, and extinction began.
At first, it was a cartoon that I roughly drew in Paint and uploaded to the Internet.
'Let's organize the things I find interesting into a comic!' That was my light-hearted attitude.
The cartoon drawn in that way was truly loved by many.
I've met many fans who bought books and read them over and over again until they were tattered.
Since then, ‘insects’ and ‘comics’ have become my identity, and this work, which has both the words ‘insects’ and ‘comics’ in its title, has become my representative work.
However, it was a work that always left something to be desired.
As it was a work that started lightly, as an artist, I was very concerned about the lackluster picture.
Moreover, new facts about insects are discovered every year.
I felt the need to update these facts and reflect them in the book.
That's why I've come up with this revised edition.
If you dare to try to touch up a 'masterpiece' and get caught up in the masterpiece disease and take a long swing, you'll end up swinging and missing.
This is a light revision.
I touched up the parts that needed fixing and the pictures that I absolutely couldn't stand to look at.
I think that even the raw, embarrassing aspects of the past are delicious in their own way.
Then, I hope you enjoy your meal.
Churai churai.

--- From "Entering"

When I was in my third year of middle school, contemplating between being a cartoonist and a scientist, a Galoa bug happened to appear in front of me while I was collecting insects, and it completely immersed me in the world of science (though I still draw cartoons).
Well, this guy is called a 'living fossil'.
Some of the insects that lived during the Ice Age have survived to this day.
Come to think of it, until then, the only insect I knew of from the past was the 'big dragonfly'.
Beyond the insects we knew about, there was a realm of 400 million years.
The Galoa bug was the first to show me that there was a long, long past.
--- From the "Conclusion"

Even now, if you look at fossils, you can see an incredible number of insect species.
Their descendants still populate the Earth.
The entire insect world is a 'living fossil'.
I hope that through this book, you will be able to feel the continuity of ancient time and life, and the majesty of insects.
We hope you will immerse yourself in the profound emotion of discovering yourself in nature.

Publisher's Review
Bestsellers in life sciences,
Updated with the latest research!

From webtoon to the best science textbook
A legendary science book with cumulative sales of 100,000 copies

《Learning about Insect Evolution through Comics》 is a big hit science webtoon that recorded 4 million views in just 6 months through official serialization in Ddanzi Ilbo, DC Inside, Facebook, Naver Post, etc. in 2018.
It depicts the 'inevitable process' by which insects such as cicadas, dragonflies, grasshoppers, and cockroaches evolved into their current forms.
Published as a book in 2018 by supplementing and adding to the content of the webtoon, "Learning Insect Evolution through Comics" set several records.
Since its publication, it has remained a bestseller in the field of life sciences, and has won awards such as the 2019 Science Book of the Year by the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics and the Excellent Cartoon by the Korea Creative Content Agency.
It was translated and published in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Russia, receiving favorable reviews as a “science book with both depth and fun.”
Cumulative sales reached 100,000 copies.

Updates reflecting the latest research,
A carefully crafted image

When it was first published in 2018, it was thoroughly verified and supplemented to enhance its completeness, but seven years have passed since then.
The author decided to give the minimum amount of compensation to the fans who read the books they bought over and over again until they were worn out.
In the meantime, many new discoveries have been made in the insect world.
From the author's perspective, there were many paintings that he wanted to revisit.
The revised edition of "Learning Insect Evolution through Comics" is an updated book that reflects all these regrets to the greatest extent possible.
However, for readers who still love the nostalgia and humor of the pre-revision era, the author himself toned down the level of change.
There are some noticeable parody modifications, but many changes require careful examination to be noticed.
The author's wish for the readers to continue to love the embarrassing aspects of the past, and the author's request for readers to view it as a process of the book gradually evolving, are included.

The charm that unfolds even if you don't know anything about insects.
The perfect balance of fun and knowledge

What's the appeal of "Learning Insect Evolution through Comics"? First, the endless stream of jokes and parodies.
Readers continue to testify that they have read the book multiple times because of the fun it provides.
Second, amazing expertise.
This is the result of thorough verification through reading overseas papers and original books, as well as expert advice and direct observation.
Third, the entertaining production that will draw even those who are not interested in insects into it.
It provides a kind of solution to how science books should approach the smartphone-obsessed generation.
Although the title suggests that this is a book about insects, I recommend that you open this book without any preconceived notions about insects or the name insect.
A story about the diversity of life, the wonderful process of evolution, and the essential existence of the Earth's ecosystem.
You might find yourself flipping through the pages purely for fun, but after laughing for a while, you might find yourself becoming much more familiar with insects than you thought.
In this way, this book evolves into a must-read classic in life sciences.
