Into the book
How does the mind work?
If you go out in the winter and your body starts to shiver from the cold, a voice will speak.
"Hey, it's cold!" What good does that say? I already knew it was cold.
It is you who is experiencing the cold.
Why does the voice speak to you? It's to recreate the world within your mind.
Because you may not be able to control the world, but you can control your mind.
That's why I'm muttering in my mind.
You can't change the world the way you want, but you can say it in your heart, judge it, complain about it, and decide what to do about it.
This makes you feel like you still have strength.
… … (omitted)… … The mind processes present experiences and manipulates them to fit your view of the past and your outlook on the future.
All of this creates the feeling that, at least on the surface, everything is under control.
So you recreate the external world within yourself.
And it lives in my heart.
But what if we decide to stop doing this?
--- From "Chapter 1: The Voice of the Heart"
Letting go practice
The moment you start to realize that you hate the people you used to love, the moment your life starts to look completely different, the moment everything starts to look negative - let go.
I should have let it go before, but I didn't.
The problem is that it's more difficult now.
When the pull first started, I could have let it go in one breath.
Now, it takes serious work to return to the place of our previous consciousness without performing a pilgrimage ceremony. … … (omitted) … … Imagine that you actually did some of the things your mind told you to do when you were caught up in the chaotic energy.
Imagine what would happen if you actually quit your job.
Or, 'I've endured enough.
Imagine stepping out and saying, 'I have to set an example today.'
You have no idea how deep the abyss it is.
Confusion in the mind is bound to happen.
But the moment you allow it to express itself, the moment you allow that energy to move your body, you descend into a whole other dimension.
Now it's almost impossible to let go.
… … (omitted)… … Now more forces are pulling you down.
This is the whole vicious cycle.
In fact, you can plant the confusion from your past experiences hidden deep in your heart into the hearts of those around you.
Then it will come back to you someday.
Whatever you project outward comes back to you.
Imagine you're angry and you unleash all that chaotic energy onto the other person.
This is how people ruin their relationships and ruin their lives.
--- From Chapter 8, “If You Don’t Let Go Now, You’ll Fall”
The universal language of the body is pain, the universal language of the mind is fear.
The only reason you are always concerned about your peace of mind is because your mind has been uneasy for a very long time.
In fact, your inner self is so fragile that almost anything can easily turn you inside out.
To end this suffering, you must first realize that your mind is not at peace.
Then you must realize that your mind does not need to remain in that uncomfortable state.
The mind can be healthy and whole.
Just realizing that you don't have to endure or protect your emotional pain is a true gift.
There is no need to endlessly replay what you said or what the other person thought of you.
If you constantly carry such worries with you, what kind of life are you trying to lead? Being sensitive is proof that your life is not peaceful.
It is the same when the body shows pain or other symptoms when it is not at peace.
Pain is not a bad thing.
It's the body talking to you.
Overeating causes stomachache.
If you do something that puts too much stress on your arms, they will start to hurt.
The body communicates through its universal language: pain.
The mind communicates through its universal language, fear.
Self-consciousness, jealousy, anxiety, nervousness, these are all fears.
Constantly worrying about yourself is a pain in itself.
But how can we fix this? How can we silence the voices in our hearts?
--- From Chapter 10: Building a New Relationship with the Mind
The Birth of the Mind
Obsession is one of the most primal acts.
Because some objects remain while others pass by, consciousness feels more connected to them.
Then you use it as a reference point that provides direction, connection, and a sense of safety in the midst of the endless whirlwind of change taking place within you.
And this demand for direction extends to the outside world.
You cling to internal objects, but you use them to relate and orient yourself to all the physical objects perceived by your senses.
And then you create a thought that ties all those objects together and holds the whole mass together.
Eventually, you become so attached to this lump inside you that you build your sense of self around it.
Because you cling to it, it stays fixed.
And because it stays in one place, you have a deeper connection with it than with anything else.
This is the birth of the mind.
I held onto a thought that passed through the empty space of consciousness and eventually created an island that seemed solid.
If you have one thought that always lingers, you can lean your head on it.
Then, as you hold onto more thoughts, you eventually build an inner mass that can focus your consciousness.
The more consciousness is focused on this mass of the mind, the stronger the tendency becomes to define one's self-concept by it.
Obsession creates bricks and mortar, out of which we build our conceptual self.
In the vast inner space, with only thoughts like smoke, you build a house that looks sturdy and live there.
Who are you, struggling to build up your sense of self in order to be found, like a lost person? This question reveals the essence of spirituality.
You will never find yourself in what you have built up to define yourself.
You are the one who is building it up.
--- From "Chapter 14: Letting Go of the Fake Lump"
The eyes of God looking down on you
If you could look at someone with eyes of true love for just one moment, you would realize that those eyes were not your own.
Your eyes have never been able to look at someone with such great love.
Your eyes have never been so unconditional.
Even if you looked at someone for a million years, you would never see anything but beauty and utter perfection in that person.
Those eyes are the eyes of God looking down on you.
When God reaches out to give through you, there is nothing He does not want to give.
You will give your last breath and not even remember it.
A thought of hesitation will not even cross your mind.
I would give anything and everything for the one I love.
When you feel love this deeply, you feel that it comes from something much bigger than yourself.
It is transcendent love.
It is a holy, unconditional, and selfless love.
If you go out in the winter and your body starts to shiver from the cold, a voice will speak.

Publisher's Review
The New York Times #1 bestselling psychology essay
Dissect the mind with psychology and heal wounds with Eastern wisdom!
1.
The legendary psychological and healing essay returns in a complete edition!
Michael Singer's 'The Untethered Soul', which was a #1 New York Times bestseller and #1 Amazon Psychology book, has returned with a new look to celebrate its 10th anniversary since its publication in Korea under the title 'The Untethered Soul (published by Lighting House)'.
This work, which has returned in a complete edition with a Korean preface by the author, who has a deep connection to Korea, and a review by Professor Seong Hae-young, is a legendary psychological healing book that became famous when Oprah Winfrey chose it as a "must-have book to take with you when traveling."
The translator has refined the entire work with a new sensibility, adding to the value of this complete edition by translating the manuscripts that were added or omitted.
The secret to the success of this book, which still holds the number one spot on Amazon and is receiving unwavering love, lies in the fact that it has turned the attention of those who sought to find their happiness from external conditions into their own inner selves.
And that small change became the beginning of a huge self-revolution.
2.
A Soul User's Manual for Wounded Hearts, from a Hermit Master
Michael Singer, known as a faceless author who was reluctant to appear in front of people, made his first public appearance at the earnest request of Oprah Winfrey.
People who were tired of attracting all kinds of desires responded explosively to his lectures that taught them how to be free from the troubles of the mind.
Immediately after the broadcast, his book, "The Unwounded Soul," reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list and was translated into over a dozen languages, including Korean, and introduced around the world.
This book, which guides us on a journey to find our true selves, which we have left behind in the prison of our own minds, is still loved by readers today.
Readers have embraced this book as a "soul user manual" (Amazon reader review) for the weary minds of modern people struggling with anxiety.
Steve Jobs, a prominent achiever of his time, cited meditation as the secret to his success, and the growing social interest in the inner self was also related to the success of this book.
However, the main factor that led to the sympathy that transcended national borders was the excellence of the content itself, which freely cited various religions and spiritual traditions of the East and the West and illuminated the dark inner world with everyday language.
3.
Extensive knowledge of Eastern and Western spiritual traditions that illuminate the human spirit
Beginning with observations of the everyday chatter of the mind and guiding an inner journey toward profound spiritual realms, this book seamlessly crosses East and West, religious studies and psychology.
The story, which begins with Freud's id, ego, and superego, unfolds in an exciting way with the help of Indian philosophy, featuring Ramana Maharishi, known as the silent saint, and Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching as an important mention, gradually gaining depth through quotations from Buddha and Jesus.
In short, it is a method of dissecting the mind through Western psychology and healing the wounds of the mind through Eastern and Western spiritual traditions and wisdom.
Yet, the book never feels overwhelmed by the weight of its subject matter.
Rather, it vividly shows all the mental turmoil that arises in life through appropriate metaphors, and kindly explains in everyday language how to escape from those predicaments.
4.
Mindfulness for Modern People: An Escape from Mental Illness
The modern age is an age of wounds, speed, and division.
On the exact opposite side are 'healing', 'slow living', and 'wholeness'.
Modern people have been too far from the center of this oscillation and have been leaning to one extreme.
Michael Singer's solution to this problem is surprisingly simple: just let it be.
Unless you supply energy to the extremes, unless you interfere with them, the pendulum will naturally stop at the center.
This wisdom of the Middle Way permeates the entire work.
When the energy within you starts to move to one extreme or the other, you can stop and 'let it go', thereby detaching yourself from the energy that is trying to attract you.
This is what it truly means to be centered in this book.
However, for modern people who have been thinking that the solution to internal problems lies outside, this is not as easy as it sounds.
Modern people are completely absorbed by the voice of their minds, which are anxiously trying to make the world fit their existing ideas.
The voice says that if only external conditions would change, he would be happy.
This is the human predicament that Singer speaks of.
But the singer says that sound is never you.
You are the 'watcher' of the voice of the heart.
So, he says, if you don't follow those sounds, if you don't give those thoughts energy and let them go, those confusing sounds will go away.
This book, which illuminates the true self for modern people who suffer from schizophrenia while wearing various masks of personality at work, in society, and at home, presents a starting point for spiritual growth. Unlike previous books that taught how to fight life to change external conditions, this book teaches how to save oneself by shining a light on oneself.
Herein lies the real value of this book.
Specific methods of practice to maintain one's center and escape from mental difficulties in any situation can be found in detail in the book.
5.
An experience of 'reading for growth' that makes you underline new places every time you read!
This book has tens of thousands of reader reviews on Amazon.com.
The average rating is 4.7 out of 5 stars.
The phrase in the review, "It gives you an experience of spiritual growth that makes you underline new places every time you read it," describes the most accurate way to read this book.
It's not hard to imagine a reader revisiting this book on their journey of growth, underlining new passages each time.
So, this book is a friendly guide for beginner travelers taking their first steps into the vast inner universe.
Dissect the mind with psychology and heal wounds with Eastern wisdom!
