_Jeon Hyun-moo MC

“When you gain confidence in speaking, your life changes!” A book of speeches by announcer Han Seok-jun, who was active as a KBS star announcer with clear and sharp speech, has been published.
He is a speech coach who has thousands of students and has been an announcer for 24 years. He said, “No one is good at speaking from the beginning,” and published “Han Seok-jun’s Speaking Class,” which contains speech know-how for the general public who wants to speak well in everyday life.
This book provides detailed tips that can be immediately applied in a variety of situations, from important interviews to demonstrating your accomplishments at work, sharing ideas with colleagues to drive progress, and introducing yourself to someone you've just met.

This book, which promotes "One-Point Speaking Lessons," contains 34 training methods designed to rapidly improve speaking skills. From vocal training techniques learned from senior KBS announcers to know-how gleaned from years of broadcasting and coaching experience, these techniques offer immediate results with just 10 minutes of daily practice.
For example, for those who are concerned about their pronunciation being inaccurate, we suggest a solution to practice only vowels like 'ah, eh, ee, oh, woo'; for those who are anxious about giving a presentation, we suggest a solution to practice repeatedly the first minute of the opening as if giving an actual presentation; and for those who are concerned about their speaking style appearing easy, we suggest a solution to pronounce the endings of their words clearly as if putting a period instead of blurring them.
In particular, it includes QR codes showing announcer Han Seok-jun personally training exercises, along with practical examples for practical application, to ensure the same level of effectiveness as attending a live lecture. By following the speaking techniques presented with the QR codes and practicing them repeatedly, you'll soon discover your speaking skills have improved beyond recognition.

Into the book
What does it mean to be eloquent? I believe that being eloquent is like possessing a powerful weapon, or an all-purpose free pass, that allows you to navigate life's challenges more smoothly than others.
Whether it's an important interview, a need to showcase your accomplishments at work, sharing ideas with team members to drive progress, or introducing yourself to someone you've just met, those who are good at speaking will be able to move forward more quickly and easily than others.
This book was written to help those who feel lost at such a threshold.
Those of you who pick up this book probably aren't the speaking masters you see on TV or YouTube.
I think these are people who are about to have an interview or presentation or who have been thinking, ‘I wish I could speak better…’
For those people, this book is a minimal speaking strategy that can be applied and implemented immediately.
--- p.8~9, from “Prologue”

No matter how good the content you are trying to convey is, if your pronunciation and enunciation are not good, it will be difficult to achieve the purpose of your speech.
On the other hand, if your pronunciation and enunciation are good, even if you say the same thing, it will be much more trustworthy.
A stable tone and accurate pronunciation make the message you want to convey clearer, and it also has the side effect of making you seem smarter.
It's about becoming a more attractive person.
Among celebrities, some with particularly attractive voices include actors Seo Hyun-jin and Oh Na-ra.
Both of you have very good pronunciation and enunciation.
Of course, there are people who are born with good vocal cords.
You can have a good voice without any special practice.
On the other hand, there are people who have developed an attractive voice that suits them through vocalization and pronunciation practice.
In my opinion, Seo Hyun-jin and Oh Na-ra are closer to the latter.
The good news is that with consistent practice, your pronunciation and voice will improve dramatically.
The more you practice, the faster you will improve, and once you have realized it and internalized it, it is not easily forgotten.
In fact, there are many announcers around me who have developed attractive voices not because they were born with good vocal cords, but through training.
The closest example is me.
--- p.25~26, from “How to focus the other person’s attention with an attractive voice”

The reason why you should use abdominal breathing when vocalizing is not only to produce a pleasant sound, but also to prevent damage to your throat due to incorrect vocalization.
If your vocal cords are damaged due to incorrect pronunciation, your voice will become increasingly unpleasant to hear.
A vicious cycle repeats itself where bad pronunciation leads to a bad voice.
Of course, this process requires patience.
At first, you won't be able to tell if I'm making noise with my stomach or not.
Since you don't feel the change right away, you might be wondering if you should keep doing this.
But once you get used to the correct pronunciation, it will be difficult to make sounds the wrong way from then on.
It is what is called 'embodied'.
If you consistently practice and develop proper pronunciation and thus a pleasing voice, you will gain more than you think.
In my experience, people with better voices than others are not judged harshly even if their work is a little unskilled.
You will have more opportunities to stand out in front of others and your chances of being recognized by others will increase.
It would be natural for confidence to rise.
--- p.32~33, from “There is a separate way to improve your voice”

Accurate pronunciation is a basic quality that broadcasters must have.
But I don't think that quality is only needed for broadcasters.
Among my students, there is one who succeeded in getting a job after struggling for over a year thanks to diligently practicing pronunciation.
There are people who diligently practiced their pronunciation as if they were eating a meal, and before they knew it, they had become presentation experts at their company and even been promoted.
Most of us believe that the reasons we struggle to speak or present well are because we lack confidence, lack logic, or are nervous.
But surprisingly, the cause lies elsewhere, and many people are unaware of this.
Especially the pronunciation.
Because I don't have a chance to check how I usually pronounce things and whether I'm pronouncing certain things wrong.
From now on, try to train your vowels consistently.
I encourage you to speak while being conscious of how you pronounce things.
After a month or two, you will be able to transform into someone who can convey what you want to say more accurately.
--- p.49, from “If your pronunciation is slurred when you speak”

Now, I'm going to teach you some practice methods to avoid trailing off.
Try taking a picture of yourself with your smartphone.
"From this moment on, I will speak every sentence accurately." Say the sentence above out loud.
Try to speak as if you are talking to someone, rather than reading a sentence.
I hope you will speak with the feeling of shouting, of declaring.
At this time, try pronouncing the '-da' in 'I will say' correctly.
When I have students practice this, they either emphasize the final '-da' sound and raise the pitch, or lengthen the ending of the word like 'da-a-'.
It is better to say '-da', which ends a sentence, by slightly lowering the pitch compared to the sound before it.
Of course, there are exceptions.
When you first start talking, say hello, or introduce yourself, you can create a lively atmosphere by slightly raising the '-da' sound.
However, in general, the pitch of '-da' should be slightly lowered and the duration of the sound should also be slightly shorter.
But you have to pronounce it clearly so that it can be heard clearly.
--- p.64~65, from “How to Fix Your Speech Tone That Seems Easy”

“What should I do with someone who makes absurd claims?”
I want to tell that person, “You are wrong.”
But saying this is like losing my side.
To put it bluntly, it's a very aggressive way of pushing people away.
Actually, I was that kind of person.
I used to just point out mistakes and suggest solutions, thinking that I needed to fix the problem.
If you think about it carefully, it's not a big problem if the other person's logic is wrong.
There are many times when there are no problems.
But if you say, “You’re wrong!”, I’ll say, “That’s right.
I was wrong.
Few people will say, “Thank you for letting me know.”
This is because we perceive negative words like “no” and “wrong” as negations of ourselves.
You end up closing your heart before accepting the other person's advice.
But what if you need to point out the other person's mistake? Simply ask questions about the part of their story that's inaccurate.
For example, “What does this part of what you just said mean?” or “I’m curious as to why you think that?”
If you ask about the mistake two or three times, the other person will naturally realize it.
That there is a flaw in your logic, and yet the other person has hinted at it without directly criticizing you.

Publisher's Review
“When you have confidence in your speaking, your life changes!”
34 Tips for Speaking Well, from Announcer Han Seok-jun, a speech coach who has helped thousands of people.

“No one is good at speaking from the beginning.” These are the first words announcer Han Seok-jun says to his speech class students.
Even he, who was active as a KBS star announcer with clear and sharp speech, had a time when he was afraid of 'speaking'.
From the moment he first took his steps as an announcer to the present, he has undergone numerous training sessions to become a good speaker. He has personally experienced that if anyone practices without giving up, their speaking skills will definitely improve, and as a result, their life will change beyond recognition.
"Han Seok-jun's Speaking Class" is a book that compiles his experiences, the speaking training methods he learned from KBS senior announcers, and his own coaching know-how he has accumulated over the years.

He argues that being good at speaking is like having “an all-purpose free pass that allows you to pass through life’s gateways more smoothly than others.”
In fact, in various situations such as when you have to demonstrate your achievements in an important interview or at work, when you have to share various opinions with colleagues and move forward with work, or when introducing yourself to someone you meet for the first time, people who are good at speaking move forward faster and more easily than others.

He also emphasizes that anyone can become a good speaker by practicing consistently for just 10 minutes every day, even if they are not born with a good voice or lack the ability to speak.
You can find a voice that suits you through vocalization and pronunciation training, and you can give off a sophisticated and intelligent impression just by correcting your usual bad speech habits and intonation.
He uses his own example as the closest example, saying that thousands of students have already seen their speaking skills improve significantly through this method, and their lives have changed beyond recognition.

“This speaking class changed my life!” - A student review
One-point speaking lesson from announcer Han Seok-jun

What is the good thing he is saying?
He argues that “good speech has both form and content.”
If form is the technique of speaking corresponding to 'how to express', then content is the principle and attitude of speaking corresponding to 'what to explain and in what way'.
This book is divided into three parts to cover good speaking techniques.
Part 1 covers speaking techniques such as pronunciation, tone, flatness, emphasis, and speed. Part 2 covers the principles of speaking that should be followed when having a conversation depending on the situation, such as comforting or refusing. Part 3 provides a rich explanation of speaking attitudes that add weight to your words and make you stand out even with the same words.

Also, as a book that promotes 'one-point speaking lessons,' the 34 training methods introduced in this book are ones that can improve speaking skills in a short period of time.
It provides one-point solutions tailored to each situation, including how to develop an attractive voice, how to correct a lisp, how to speak powerfully while preserving the flavor of your words, how to offer words of comfort, how to effectively point out the other person's mistakes, and how to reject someone while protecting yourself.
Because it is a strategy that can be applied and implemented immediately, you will be able to experience a significant improvement in your speaking skills even if you change just one thing.

Just practice the first minute over and over again.

The opening determines the success or failure of the presentation.

Q.
Maybe it's because of the way I speak, but people look down on me.

Minimal Speaking Strategies for Big Impact with Small Changes

If we could become more articulate and navigate life's challenges, like job interviews and competitive presentations, with greater ease, our lives would be dramatically improved.
This is why announcer Han Seok-jun said, “If you become confident in speaking, your life will change.”
He has taught countless students in the field and has personally witnessed their lives change as they have improved their speaking skills.

Representative examples include a student who repeatedly failed interviews but was accepted to the company of his choice after taking a speech class; a student who suffered from ‘presentation anxiety’ successfully presented after repeating ‘1-minute opening practice’ and won gold in a speaking contest; and a team leader at a company who was troubled by a childish way of speaking but changed his voice to a professional one through vocalization and pronunciation training.
"Han Seok-jun's Speaking Class" contains only the most important methods that his speech students have found effective, and those that will show immediate results when put into practice.

The speaking training method he presents in this book is very simple.
Practice speaking consistently for 10 minutes a day.
The speaking training method, which consists of a total of 34 steps, is a minimal strategy that will not be burdensome for those who are about to have an interview or presentation or have always been thinking, 'I wish I could speak better...'
In particular, it is designed to be as effective as receiving a lecture in person by including QR codes that show announcer Seokjun Han personally training along with examples that can be applied and practiced in real life.
With this book, you too can become the protagonist of change.
This book will give you the confidence to speak your mind, whether you're meeting someone for the first time or giving an important presentation.
