Description
Book Introduction
The service of Good Fence, a non-profit organization that helps young people prepare for independence and spreads the love of the Lord.
A warm and strong fence built by the Comforter, prepared through suffering, together with the saints.

Recently, there has been growing social interest in 'youth preparing for independence', but 10 years ago, when there was not even such a term, there was someone who was heartbroken by the article about '18-year-old orphanage leavers' and began to pray and take action, however small.
What would not have been possible alone is now being done through cooperation with others, becoming a ministry of the church and extending to other churches.
This is the story of the Good Fence Foundation, which serves as a warm and supportive adult to young people preparing for independence, and plays a leading role in establishing and improving systems, and its founder and self-supporting worker, Choi Sang-gyu.

The author's childhood and youth were a series of difficult and heartbreaking hardships, including domestic violence, poverty, and accidents. However, all of this was like a blazing fire that called and prepared him to become a missionary who deeply understands and helps young people preparing for independence who are suffering similar pains.
This book contains the author's story of how wounds became a calling, as well as the journey of compassionate believers and various churches uniting to serve the least of these, and the joys and difficulties they experienced along the way.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to live out the words, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” like the Good Samaritan, and build the fence of the Kingdom of God together; to anyone who wants to help young people preparing for independence but didn’t know how; and to anyone who seeks God’s will amidst the incomprehensible hardships of life.

Into the book
If, when my children graduate from high school, I declare that I've done my job as a parent and tell them to leave home and fend for themselves, will they ever be able to support themselves?
--- pp.113-114

'father.
I'm not talented or rich, but I wish I could do something for these children.'
When I pray for others, not for my own benefit, and especially when I pray with the intention of offering my wealth, time, and physical effort for others, God willingly answers that prayer.

--- p.114

I seemed to be worldly smart, but spiritually foolish. After starting my business, I kept making the same mistakes for over ten years. Now, before starting a new business, I decided to become foolish before God.

--- p.121

God said that he hears the cries of his people who are sighing and groaning in pain.
And in the middle of this land
He said that he heard the cries of young children who had not been with their parents for a long time, crying out to God in agony as if in death, and he made us feel God's sorrowful heart toward these souls.

--- p.122

What was most heartbreaking while planning the Good Fence ministry was that children who were separated from their primary caregivers and growing up in facilities were repeatedly experiencing separation from their primary caregivers against their will, due to the arrival and departure of social workers who were acting as mothers and fathers.

--- p.146

There is a great principle in the Good Fence.
Never provide cash support to mentees.
No matter how difficult it is for a mentee, he or she cannot borrow or ask for money from his or her mentor.
Instead, Good Fence can provide housing and financial support necessary for mentees to become independent.
Since Good Fence takes care of major support, if a mentee needs support or is in a major crisis, the mentor can contact the person in charge of the church that is doing Good Fence ministry.
So, the Good Fence Mentor can last a long time.
This is possible because there is a community called the church.

--- pp.155-156

The most crucial element in the ministry of youth preparing for independence is ‘continuity.’
There is no other way to help children who have experienced separation from their primary caregivers regain trust in adults than through ongoing mentoring.
To have ongoing mentoring, there must be a community.
Therefore, the church is the most suitable community for youth ministry to prepare for independence.

--- p.156

The church has diverse members, and they have diverse occupations and gifts.
Good Fence discovered the potential for expansion of its ministry here.
A community that seems to have nothing but has everything—that is the power and potential of the church community.

--- p.158

When we let go of our fears, God works.
We cannot experience miracles if we only minister within the limits we have set for ourselves.
If you have the confidence that it is a challenge given by God, the path will open if you just obey.

--- p.162

If one church could sponsor two young people preparing for independence who are graduating from protection each year, and if there were 100 such churches, they could take responsibility for 200 young people preparing for independence each year.

--- p.165

God told us that the good deeds that Good Fence was doing to the young people preparing for independence were being done to Himself.
He said that the Jesus you are so looking for, the Jesus you are so desperate to meet, is not somewhere else, but is the young people preparing for independence whom you meet every day, and that they are the Jesus you meet on this earth.

--- p.197

I completely obeyed God's will.
My resolve was unwavering.
'I will not go even half a step ahead of God.
I will go only as far as you show me, and I will stop when you tell me to stop.'
--- p.215

I have learned something through this ministry.
It means, 'If God wills it, God will make a way.'
He encouraged us to take courage and proceed with this work, for God works through prepared people and those who obey become God's witnesses.

--- p.238

God heard the cries of the orphans in this land who cried out to Him, and He caused good hedges to grow to care for these children.

Publisher's Review
'God, I wish I could do something for these children.'
From a prayer as small as a mustard seed, a good fence grew.

In January 2014, an article on the social affairs section of a morning newspaper caught my eye.
It was an article about 'children leaving orphanages', children who live in orphanages and must leave the facility when they turn 18 and graduate from high school.

The content was that children who are not sufficiently prepared for independence have difficulty finding regular jobs, so they mainly work in irregular service industries and sometimes live together in unstable accommodations.
I was shocked by my ignorance, not knowing what kind of life the children would have to live after they left foster care.

"If, when my children graduate from high school, I declare that I've done my job as a parent and tell them to leave home and fend for themselves, will they ever be able to support themselves?"

When I thought about it this way, my heart ached at how absurd and cruel the protection termination system was.

'father.
I'm not talented or rich, but I wish I could do something for these children.'

God did not just ignore the short prayer I offered in my heart in the living room that day; He remembered it.
And he answered faithfully.
