Book Introduction
Director Yoon Ga-eun's new film, her first in six years, is "Us" and "Our House."
A new page in the script collection

“Master of the World” is the new work of director Yoon Ga-eun, who in her previous works completely empathized with the loneliness and pain of children and embraced them with love, after six years.
This time, the story of teenagers unfolds in a labyrinth as Joo-in, a popular and studious high school girl, refuses to participate in a student-wide petition proposed by her classmate Su-ho, throwing everyone around her into chaos.
Even before its release, it garnered attention as the first Korean film to be invited to the competition section of the Toronto International Film Festival, and not only did it win two awards at the Pingyao International Film Festival and the FIPRESCI Award at the Warsaw International Film Festival, but it was also officially invited to the competition section of the Tokyo Film Maxx Film Festival, making it the tenth film festival to receive love calls. Meanwhile, Anon Books has published "Master of the World Screenplay Collection."

The story unfolds as the protagonist, an eighteen-year-old high school girl with an inscrutable mind, begins to receive mysterious notes after she alone refuses a signature campaign involving the entire student body. What secrets does this hold? In the hope that the audience will be able to meet the protagonist, the protagonist, and fully appreciate “Master of the World” without any preconceived notions, the film has been promoted with the “No Spoiler Review Challenge” of “Go without knowing anything” and is encouraged to fully experience the film’s resonance.
Moreover, the explosive praise that the film received as 'Movie of the Year' upon its release has made people even more curious about the film's full story.

People who accept wounds as a part of life, not as a way to overcome them, and live and protect them as they move forward together into the future.
Delicate devices and lines that deal with one person's wounds.
This script collection invites the audience into a new world where they can carefully ponder all of this and meet again.

Publisher's Review
A film that asks questions
A story that draws you into an unexpected moment and a hidden story.

Director Yoon Ga-eun, who created a tense atmosphere like watching a psychological mystery drama by exploring the conflicts and confrontations between children and the depths of their hearts, has now focused on the sex and love of teenagers.
How strong and yet how fragile can a person's heart be?
Joo-in, an 18-year-old high school student who is always bright and cheerful, is particularly quirky and unyielding during the signature campaign led by her classmate Su-ho, which makes her friends around her wonder.
For some reason.
The secrets the film holds are still unknown.
Moreover, as more and more anonymous notes criticizing the owner's behavior continue to arrive, the viewer's anxiety increases.
In this situation, the owner suddenly reveals his wounds in a more abrupt manner.
This confession made it seem as if the sentences in the petition, which the owner had so sensitively resisted and could never agree to, were finally portrayed as objects of question, but that understanding was not so easy.
The hasty consideration, judgment, and indiscriminate distortions that occur the moment one perceives others as victims, though without malicious intent, drive the owner into another corner.

Rather than telling the story of an event and its consequences, this story focuses on the process of trying to affirm and protect life after the event and raises questions.
At this time, it makes us look at the families who are suffering and hurting together, and calmly witness the indiscriminate violence that is thrown around as if we are worried about the healing after the incident and accident.
But the story here doesn't direct hatred at anyone.
This is because the protagonist, who lives his life after survival in the hope of 'love', does not allow it.
This is Yoon Ga-eun's very warm way of supporting many 'owners' of the world.

Another world called script
Another way to meet the master of the world called 'I'

Director Yoon Ga-eun completes the script and goes to the set to tell the story with a renewed spirit.
“I felt that if the goal of on-site filming is clear, there is a lot of value that can only be discovered on-site,” and this is possible when focusing on the “on-site” aspect of the encounter between the actors and the site.
The discovery of this 'realism' requires tremendous preparation, and that preparation is fully reflected in the script.
So, although the script and the film are connected, they are objects of different appreciation.
Unlike the movie "Us", which published its script collection 10 years after its release, "Master of the World" is publishing its script collection to coincide with its release.
The reason why we hope that those who have encountered the 'master's world' created by our protagonist, Joo-in, who confronts the gaze that forces a certain attitude on the wounded with a more confident and loving attitude than anyone else, will have the opportunity to dive into a deeper world through this script is because the devices and lines that director Yoon Ga-eun pondered for a long time while preparing this film resonate greatly.
I hope that the great resonance of those small traces will be remembered for a long time.

I'm still not sure when I should consider a script complete.
In fact, I wonder if the word "complete" is even appropriate for a script.
From the director's perspective, who views the script as the blueprint for making a movie, the script can only remain as an intermediate preparation necessary for planning the main shooting.
Every time I face the existential sadness of a script that I have spent a long time poring over and fiddling with, but which will never be completed, I feel a mixture of emotions.
Still, I hope to be able to write something new again that will never be completed.

As I revisited old scenarios for publication after a long time, I was amazed at what my colleagues discovered in these rough and clumsy sketches that compelled them to join me on this arduous journey.
And now, I wonder what the audience, who have already seen the film that was finally completed through their experienced hands, will discover when they read this script in reverse.
I sincerely hope that you will enjoy this as you dive into the master's world.
