"Choosing a College Major + α" reveals academic and career success strategies.

Choosing a college major is not simply a matter of choosing a field of study; it is an important process that determines the direction of one's future studies, career path, and life.
However, many students continue to worry about their major and career path even after entering university, and experience conflict when faced with various options such as double majors, minors, major changes, and transfers.
Recently, as the autonomous major selection system has expanded, the importance of the major exploration and decision-making process has increased.

Published against this backdrop, 『Choosing a College Major + α』 is a guidebook that contains key information for choosing a college major and know-how for successfully navigating college life.
Two professors who majored in education and have taught students at university participated in the writing, adding an academic foundation to the realistic concerns about choosing a major and college life.

The book is structured in stages.
Chapters 1 and 2 explain the concept of college majors, their curriculum, and how to explore majors. Chapters 3 through 7 specifically introduce majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medicine, education, and arts and physical education.

Each major is presented with related departments, universities, major courses, and related questions and answers.
By answering key questions such as, “What is this major and what do students learn?” and “What career paths can I pursue after graduation?”, we provide information tailored to the needs of a diverse range of students by sequentially unraveling the major’s characteristics and career possibilities.


The final eighth chapter covers the entire college experience, offering practical advice on test-taking, assignment-taking, and presentation strategies, extracurricular activities, and even life after college, designed to be useful for both academics and career development.

This book is particularly unique in that it goes beyond a simple major guide and offers strategies for success in college life.
It comprehensively addresses self-directed learning, experience-based activities, and long-term career planning that must be pursued alongside major selection, helping college students grow not only academically but also as active participants in life.
This will contribute to moving closer to the ideal of education and learning: “global citizens who are equipped with character and capabilities, who continuously learn and grow, and who practice inclusiveness and justice.”

The authors are Professor Park Su-jeong of the Department of Education at Chungnam National University and Professor Kim Seon-yeong of the College of Liberal Arts at Gyeongnam National University.
Professor Park has been conducting research in education and writing about university education, while Professor Kim has conducted various research and practical work in the fields of student support and experience-based education.
The two authors wrote this book based on this expertise.

"Choosing a College Major + α" will serve as a guide for high school students to explore college majors and college life in advance, a guide for freshmen to help them choose a major and adapt, and a compass for current and former students to plan their careers and develop their capabilities.
