Publisher's Review
preface

-In a rapidly changing society, the healthcare environment is also rapidly evolving.
The accelerating aging of the population, the rise of chronic diseases, the worsening of mental health issues, and the growing social demand for access to healthcare present complex challenges that cannot be solved solely through advancements in medical technology.
As healthcare expands beyond simply treating disease to focusing on improving quality of life, the medical field is demanding integrated practices that go beyond a biological approach and encompass psychosocial and environmental perspectives.

In this current, the role of medical social workers is reaching a more important turning point than ever before.
Medical social workers address a variety of issues patients and their families face in the medical environment, including emotional turmoil, financial difficulties, disconnection from care systems, and lack of access to community resources. They are positioned as bridges between healthcare and society, and as practitioners who promote human dignity.
In particular, recent efforts to establish a community-centered healthcare system, strengthen health insurance coverage, and expand public health policies have expanded the scope of medical social workers' activities beyond the physical space of hospitals to include local communities, local governments, and the government.

These changes require more than a simple expansion of roles; they require a fundamental redefinition of the practical capabilities and expertise of medical social workers.
Today's medical social workers desperately need not only policy understanding, institutional analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration, but also sensitivity to medical ethics and legal judgment, and the ability to think integratively and intervene from a human-centered perspective.
This is a professional competency that requires practical experience and insight, and cannot be achieved through mere acquisition of theory.

-This book, “Medical Social Welfare Practice Theory,” is a result that responds to these demands of the times.
Above all, this book is not a simple list of theories, but was written based on experience and insight accumulated through over 15 years of practice in the medical field.
The authors have a thorough understanding of the trends and needs of the medical social welfare field, and have strived to establish a field-friendly understanding, theory, and practice of medical social welfare through real-life cases and experiences.
Therefore, this book faithfully provides the foundation of medical social work theory, while also providing practical advice and specific strategies for various situations encountered in practice.

Each chapter in the book is designed to provide insight into the changing landscape of medical social welfare, ethical conflicts, the role of medical social workers in different diseases, and the realistic challenges of implementing patient-centered care.
As such, this book, as both a theoretical and practical guide to medical social welfare, is expected to serve as a solid bridge bridging the gap between theory and practice.
