Publisher's Review
Preface
hello?
This is Park Jong-jae, the president of the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
I sincerely congratulate you on the third edition of the Endoscopy Guidebook.
Since the first publication of the Guidebook for Physicians and Nurses Performing Sedation Endoscopy in 2015, there have been many advancements and changes in the field of sedation.
Since 2016, the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has been providing various sedation training programs to medical professionals, including propofol sedation training at medical institutions and hospitals certified by the Korean Medical Association.
In addition, we have been dedicated to improving the quality of sedation endoscopy by consistently conducting education, research, and promotional activities related to sedation endoscopy for the certification of excellent endoscopy rooms and quality management of national cancer screening.
This third edition of the guidebook covers the patient evaluation and monitoring process for sedation endoscopy, the practice of endoscopic sedation, management of complications, and sedation endoscopy education and consent forms. We expect it to be of great help in performing sedation endoscopy efficiently and safely in actual clinical practice.
In particular, we conducted a survey targeting doctors, nurses, and patients to reflect opinions from domestic clinical settings, and included key questions from the newly revised 2025 Endoscopy Clinical Practice Guidelines.
In addition to the existing sedation endoscopy theory education, we have also proposed a new Core Curriculum that includes practical training such as CPR and simulation for responding to emergencies.
We expect this to contribute significantly to fostering the ability to safely perform various endoscopic procedures and sedation endoscopy tailored to the patient's situation.
The Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy is proactively and dedicatedly working to wisely overcome the challenges faced by sedation endoscopy and create a more efficient and safe endoscopic medical environment.
Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the members of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee who passionately dedicated themselves to revising this guidebook.
