This textbook is a lecture material for the practical course on pharmaceutical synthesis and medicinal chemistry in the College of Pharmacy.
The Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry Division of the College of Pharmacy wrote this textbook, "Pharmaceutical Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry Experiments," to enhance scientific inquiry skills and practical application in new drug development, allowing students to learn the content through practical training rather than simply learning theories about pharmaceutical synthesis and medicinal chemistry.
This textbook was revised and published in line with the reorganization of the integrated six-year pharmacy school curriculum following the publication of 『Experimental Organic Pharmaceutical Chemistry』 in 2003 and 『Experimental Pharmaceutical Synthesis』 in 2013.

In pharmaceutical education, pharmaceutical synthesis and medicinal chemistry are subjects that study the chemical basis of pharmaceuticals.
The two subjects are also used under the name “Pharmaceutical Design and Synthesis” among various academic fields in the six-year curriculum.
This textbook is a lecture material for the practical course on pharmaceutical synthesis and medicinal chemistry in the College of Pharmacy.

The 2023 textbook for "Pharmaceutical Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry Experiments" aims to faithfully incorporate experimental content on unit reactions and pharmaceutical synthesis based on existing textbooks.
The biggest change in this experimental textbook is the addition of experimental content on medicinal chemistry.
This writing began with the need for experimental materials and content for medicinal chemistry, and marked the first step toward providing better practical content in the future.
Unit reactions cover reactions from basic organic chemistry to the most recent reactions used in pharmaceutical synthesis.
In particular, the Suzuki reaction and click reaction, winners of the 2010 and 2022 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, are added, and solid-phase peptide synthesis is also introduced.
In pharmaceutical synthesis, eight drugs (ambroxol, flunarizine, nifedipine, celecoxib, phenobarbital, sildenafil, sorafenib, and lidocaine) are covered, and the practical process of drug synthesis through multi-step reactions is introduced in detail.
Medicinal chemistry includes five contents: literature search, chemical structure drawing, ADME prediction, molecular docking simulation, and drug design based on pharmacological properties and pharmacological activity, and serves as a guide for conducting web-based exercises.
Meanwhile, in Chapter 2, Separation and Purification of Organic Compounds, nuclear magnetic resonance spectra were added.
