One of the problems I felt while experiencing the fierce competition in the medical field was the information imbalance between patients and medical staff.
Patients and their caregivers want more information about life-threatening issues, but the Korean healthcare system faces practical challenges in providing sufficient, quality information from medical professionals, and they often turn to publications or the internet for information.
Although communication between medical professionals and the general public has increased recently through new channels such as YouTube, the reality is that it is still not enough.
Unfortunately, however, in the Korean internet environment represented by Naver and others (there is a serious gap in information quality even compared to Google), it is difficult to find “accurate, useful, and interesting” medical information.
It often happens that misinformation leads them astray.
Against this backdrop, I began to ponder how to provide “accurate, useful, and fun” information to patients, and ultimately decided to try drawing “medical cartoons.”
So, Doctor Dan-gam was born on July 19, 2012.
After thinking about a character that would best convey my thoughts to the readers, I came up with 'Dan-gam'.
We hope that the persimmon, which is familiar to us and is neither too sweet nor too bitter, neither too mushy nor too juicy, can convey the 'cold' medical story in a 'warm and simple' way.
