Why does Parkinson's disease occur?

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease that occurs when dopamine cells in a part of the midbrain called the substantia nigra gradually decrease.
In the brains of Parkinson's patients, the substantia nigra is depigmented, and when observed under a microscope, the nerve cells here can be observed to have degenerated.
Therefore, the lack of dopamine in the brain causes the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, such as tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia.

However, it is still not clearly known why degeneration of substantia nigra neurons occurs.
In some cases, it develops in a familial manner, but in most cases, it occurs without a family history. There are research results that suggest that environmental influences or toxic substances are the cause, but it is not yet certain enough to explain all patients.
When the cause of the disease is unknown, the term “idiopathic” is used, and most cases of Parkinson’s disease fall into this category.

Publisher's Review
Parkinson's disease is on the rise as the population ages.
In fact, Parkinson's disease is not uncommon even in young people in their 40s, and recently, as awareness of the disease has increased, there are more patients who suspect it themselves and visit hospitals.

Although awareness of Parkinson's disease is increasing, many patients suffer from wasted time and money due to the fact that much of the information they receive through mass media, such as newspapers and the Internet, is sometimes inaccurate or leads to incorrect judgments.

This book was compiled to help patients and their caregivers address some of the questions they may have about Parkinson's disease and similar conditions.
We have done our best to explain the medical knowledge known to date and relatively scientifically verified in easy terms.
In particular, it is organized in a question-and-answer format so that it is very detailed and easy to understand, including the differentiation of various diseases similar to Parkinson's disease, diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease, and things to keep in mind in daily life.

Parkinson's disease is still a disease that is difficult to cure, although various treatment methods are being continuously developed.
A positive lifestyle and a detailed understanding of the disease, without losing hope and courage, are very important factors in overcoming the disease and leading a normal life.

This book was compiled to help patients suffering from Parkinson's disease and similar conditions, their families, and those around them understand the disease correctly and to help patients improve their quality of life.
I hope that this book will help patients and their families deal appropriately with the problems they encounter in their daily lives. I also hope that it will be widely used so that not only the patients' families but also all members of our society can correctly understand Parkinson's disease and patients, and help them in their efforts to help them.
