Into the book
There is a good reason why I put the defense industry first among the seven major industries.
A 40-year history of fierce development and self-reliance amidst a tense standoff with North Korea; dazzling growth over the past four to five years; exports expected to surpass $20 billion by 2025; 2026 looking certain to continue its momentum; a brighter short- and mid-term outlook than any other industrial sector; and a leap forward to become one of the world's top four exporters by 2027.
Do we need another reason to make K-defense a leader in business trends in 2026?
K-defense industry is now an important axis of our export industry.
The number of export destinations also rapidly increased to 15, including former communist countries.
Export items also span land, sea, and air, boasting a diverse range of sophisticated, cutting-edge technologies. This explains why media outlets like CNN call South Korea a key arms supplier to US allies.
--- From "PART ONE/K-Defense Industry"
The 2025 Korea-US tariff negotiations may be a critical juncture or turning point for K-shipbuilding.
While the negotiations covered a wide range of industries, our negotiating team proposed a cutely named shipbuilding cooperation project called "MASGA (Make American Shipbuilding Great)" as a "carrot" to maximize concessions from the U.S.
The essence of this business can be summarized in one word:
“The U.S. shipbuilding industry is currently in a ‘dead-end’ state, while Korea’s shipbuilding industry is ‘flying high’.
So, if the US lowers the tariffs a little more, we will build ships for you, repair and maintain them, and teach you how to build them.
how is it?"
--- From "PART TWO/K-Chosun, Chapter 2 MASGA; Uncle Sam, We'll Build You a Ship"
Why is the ASIC segment emerging as a buyer of HBM? Demand for "custom" semiconductors tailored to specific AI models is on the rise.
Nvidia's AI accelerators are expensive because they are 'general purpose', and their low performance efficiency compared to the power consumption is inconvenient.
Therefore, JP Morgan predicts that the AI ASIC market will grow by more than 30% by 2025.
It is also noteworthy that ASIC shipments will exceed Nvidia's AI semiconductor production in 2026.
Naturally, HBM manufacturers are busy devising new strategies...
What's really interesting is that from 2026 onwards, HBM4, which is 'customized', will dominate the market.
Starting with the 6th generation, the 'logic die', which is the brain, will be manufactured according to the customer's request, making it possible to supply HBM that is just right for each ASIC.
--- From "PART THREE/K-Semiconductor, Chapter 1: HBM; You Can't Talk About K-Semiconductor Without This"
"K-Power Equipment"? I had no idea. I never thought the power equipment and wire industries would receive the same level of attention and applause as defense, shipbuilding, and semiconductor industries by early 2024! But our power equipment industry has achieved a level of prominence that wouldn't be embarrassed to even add a "K" to its name.
As in the case of K-Defense Industries and K-Shipbuilding, global electricity demand is increasing without stopping, and competitiveness is at a truly top level.
You can tell just by looking at the numbers.
The backlog of orders at the end of 2024 is expected to reach 30 trillion won, a 43.5% increase from a year ago.
Will this boom last? It looks like it will continue until at least 2030.
The smooth journey continues into 2025.
--- From "PART FOUR/K-Power Equipment"
The first half of 2025 continued this trend, with technological prowess-based performance becoming even more prominent, further brightening the outlook for 2026.
It recorded a record-breaking technology export of over 8.6 trillion won, and expectations are growing that it will surpass 10 trillion won in the second half of the year.
The expansion of R&D investment centered on large corporations has promised to secure future competitiveness and has driven the qualitative growth of K-bio.
However, as polarization between companies intensified, business performance was concentrated in some large corporations and biotech companies with strong technological capabilities.
This also means that the process of ‘separating the wheat from the chaff’ is progressing rapidly within K-bio.
--- From "PART FIVE/K-Bio"
Nuclear Power: A Changing Narrative
‘Zero carbon’ is an irreversible demand of the times.
However, the limitations of renewable energy are also inevitable.
So nuclear energy is getting attention again as a sustainable resource.
Its importance is also high in terms of security and national competitiveness.
As technology and discussion deepened, the wasteful debates subsided.
K-Nuclear Power has accumulated technology and experience at every stage of the nuclear power plant lifecycle: from ordering and construction to operation and management, spent fuel, and decommissioning, thereby establishing outstanding competitiveness.
--- From "PART SIX/K-Nuclear Power Plant"
The secondary battery market is largely divided into electric vehicles and ESS.
Although the electric vehicle sector is larger in scale (68%), the ESS sector is growing at a steeper rate.
But the largest market for electric vehicles remains shrouded in fog.
While there are some alternatives, a fundamental solution is difficult to achieve unless demand for electric vehicle batteries recovers.
In fact, the operating rates of the three K-battery companies' factories in the first half of 2025 fell to half (51.3%).
Securities firms predict that projected shipments in 2025 will be less than half of production capacity.
As equipment sits idle, fixed costs increase and profitability decreases, creating a vicious cycle, and overall debt is increasing.

It is a compass that asks what choices to make in the face of the coming waves of 2026.
Opportunities reward you only as much as you prepare for, but crises will come at you if you are not prepared for them.
Economy and business are always in flux.
Those who correctly read the flow will achieve profit and growth, but those who misinterpret it will inevitably suffer losses.
"Business Trends 2026" will provide investors, professionals, managers, policymakers, and researchers with practical intellectual tools to overcome crises and seize opportunities.
“The tide will surely come in.
Only the prepared will seize the opportunity, while the unwary will be swept away by the crisis.
"Business Trends 2026" is the most realistic weapon to navigate this volatile era and seize opportunities."
