A 10-Day Humanities Tour of England
Description
Book Introduction
A cultural powerhouse that gave birth to Shakespeare, the Beatles, and Harry Potter.
A package tour around the UK with a local guide
"The land on which the sun never sets," "the land of gentlemen," what kind of history gave rise to the epithets that define Britain? A trip around Britain will prompt reflection on how this country came to dominate the world.
What was the strength of Britain, a second-rate nation among great powers like France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain?
As you travel around Britain, you will find that history, art and great literature are alive and well.
They dominated the world, initiated the Industrial Revolution, and created modern industry. The development of literature and art, which began with Shakespeare, led to the prosperity of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series.
Behind this country of splendid culture and arts lies an ungentlemanly history of accumulating wealth through the slave trade and leading the Industrial Revolution to dominate the world.
《10-Day Humanities Journey Around Britain》 is the first book in the series 'Humanities Journeys Guided by Local Guides'.
This 10-day itinerary explores the landmarks of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, which make up the United Kingdom. QR codes link to local landscape videos and narrations from a local guide create a sense of real-life experience.

Into the book
The college facing the library is Hertford College.
This college is the fifth oldest in Oxford and was originally called Hart Hall.
'Hart' refers to a male red deer, and the school's current emblem features a deer head.
The university has a bridge reminiscent of the Italian Bridge of Sighs that connects the main building and the dormitories.
On one side is the dormitory building, and on the other side is the lecture hall. It is called 'The Bridge of Sighs' because students would sigh when crossing this bridge due to disappointment with their grades or stress from exams.
--- p.30 From "Oxford"
The film associated with the album "Let It Be" sat in Apple's warehouse, largely forgotten, for about 50 years.
The eight-hour film was released to the public in 2021 after four years of editing by Lord of the Rings director Sir Peter Robert Jackson.
This documentary, produced in three parts, each lasting 2-3 hours, captivated the world with the hidden stories of the Beatles and the images of the members from 50 years ago.
In particular, the appearances of George Harrison and John Lennon, who are no longer in this world, held special meaning for fans.
--- p.66 From "Liverpool"
People still say that Messiah is a magnificent piece that brings tears of joy to the eyes with its grand scale and composition, comparable to Michelangelo's Creation of Adam.
Handel composed Messiah in just 24 days.
During those 24 days, he did not sleep properly, did not eat, and devoted himself solely to composing, completing an enormous masterpiece.
It is said that when the opera was performed in London after its premiere, King George II jumped up without realizing it when the song "Hallelujah" rang out during the part of the second part of the Messiah that sings of the suffering and atonement of Christ.
It is said that since then, in every country, there has been a custom of everyone standing up and applauding after the Messiah's performance.

Publisher's Review
Humanities Class: Learning from Travel
Embark on a deeper journey into the humanities with a local guide.
People usually focus on eating and taking pictures because they say that when you travel, all you have left are the food and the pictures.
As a result, nothing about tourist attractions remains.
Even looking at the photos, it becomes a futile trip where you only remember the fact that you went abroad without knowing where you went.
If you are on a package tour, you may have to carry a bag full of souvenirs or hand over unused travel items to the guide.
The 'Humanities Travel Guided by a Local Guide' series gives the feeling of going on a package tour.
Fill your travel time with rich content by listing the itinerary for touring each country in order.
The history of the famous place is similar to tourists who are friendly and then cold, facing a crisis, and then taking pictures again as if nothing happened.
Even taking a break can make you feel like you're traveling.
As we travel, we encounter living history, art, and great literature.
Through travel, you can discover the center of world history that influenced an era and project it into the modern era.
If there had been no history, the famous sights we see would not have existed.
Travel is about taking a brief trip back in time to a place steeped in history.
In this book, “10-Day Humanities Tour of Britain,” author Lim Sang-woo shares his know-how for enjoying a trip to Britain, focusing on various examples from his experience as a local guide in the UK.
No matter where you go, there are few places that end with just scenery.
This is especially true in Europe, with its complex historical background.
I can enjoy the stories I know more when I hear them from the land with that history.
This book will take you on a journey that will bring back memories of world history you studied in school and provide intellectual enjoyment.
