F1 Glossary 1111
F1 Glossary 1111
Description
Book Introduction
Make F1 more fun with a glossary that will satisfy your intellectual curiosity.
Knowing the terms used by F1 No. 1 commentator Jae-su Yoon reveals F1.

The book 『If you know the terms, you can see F1 - F1 / 200 basic motorsports terms』, which was published over 10 years ago, had the following promotional text.
“A book that will satisfy your intellectual curiosity, a seasoning you can look up while watching a broadcast, talking about cars, playing a racing game, or just when something suddenly comes to mind.” This spirit continues with “F1 Glossary 1·1·1·1.”
I believe the reason for this book's existence is that, with the explosive growth in the number of fans who have just begun to take an interest in F1 since Coupang Play's live broadcast, there is a need for a book that can be easily consulted when one has questions or wants to know more.

Pole position + led all laps + fastest lap + win.
In F1, a grand slam is when a driver starts the race from pole position, leads every lap, records the fastest lap, and then wins the race.
As of the 2023 season, there have been 66 Grands Prix in F1 where a Grand Slam has been achieved, and 26 drivers have achieved a Grand Slam, with Jim Clarke having achieved the most with eight Grand Slams.

The actual weight felt due to the effects of acceleration, gravity, etc.
G-force refers to the acceleration per unit mass of an object due to mechanical forces such as acceleration and gravity, and can be thought of as the vector value of the weight an object actually "feels".
If expressed as a formula, the equation "weight = mass × - G-force" holds true.
If the mass of the driver's head including the helmet is assumed to be 8 kg, and a G-force of 5 g is applied in the opposite direction, the weight of the head that the neck has to support increases to 40 kg.
The G-force that is noticeable during strong braking or high-speed cornering places a great strain on not only the driver's body but also the race car and tires.

A process of checking the specifications and standards of a race car and verifying that it meets the regulations.

Inspection refers to the process of checking and verifying the specifications and standards of all racing cars participating in a motorsports event according to the procedures stipulated in the regulations.
Only race cars that pass the inspection are eligible to participate in the official race, and those that fail the post-race inspection may be disqualified.
In an F1 Grand Prix, inspections are conducted according to set procedures during each official session, starting with the "initial scrutineering" on Thursday morning, three days before the race on Sunday, and also after the official driving of each day during the Grand Prix.

British driver who holds most of the major F1 records.
Lewis Hamilton won the F3 Euro Series in 2005 and the GP2 in 2006 before making his F1 debut for McLaren in 2007.
Hamilton showed outstanding skills from the beginning of his F1 career, finishing second in the WDC by one point in the 2007 season, and then winning his first driver's championship title in the 2008 season, narrowly beating Felipe Massa, demonstrating his status as a top-class driver.
After moving to Mercedes in the 2013 season, Hamilton began to reign as the strongest driver in the power unit era, winning the championship title seven times out of eight seasons from the 2014 season to the 2020 season, but unfortunately failed to win his eighth championship title in the controversial 2021 season.
Hamilton is considered one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, holding most F1 records including the most Drivers' Championship titles (4), most wins, most podium finishes, most pole positions and most fastest laps.

The "Emperor" of F1, who won the Drivers' Championship title seven times.
Michael Schumacher surprised everyone by qualifying seventh in his F1 debut for Jordan at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix, and then moved to Benetton for the next race, where he achieved three consecutive points finishes.
Schumacher, who recorded his first podium finish at the 1992 Mexican Grand Prix and his first win at the Belgian Grand Prix, and finished third in the WDC, defeated Williams driver Damon Hill to win the F1 Driver's Championship for two consecutive seasons in 1994 and 1995.
Schumacher, who moved to Ferrari in the 1996 season and became a member of the strongest dream team, won the driver's championship title for five consecutive years from the 2000 season to the 2004 season and reigned as the "emperor" of F1, and competed for the title with Alonso until the end of the 2006 season before announcing his retirement.
Schumacher returned to F1 for the 2010 season with a revived Mercedes and played for three more seasons before retiring from F1 for a second time, remaining the driver who held most F1 records, including most wins, most podium finishes, and most pole positions, until Hamilton broke them.

A British team created by Bruce McLaren.
McLaren, founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander who was one of the best drivers of the 1960s, began competing in the F1 Championship in the 1966 season, winning its first victory at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, and winning its first Constructor's Championship title in the 1974 season with Emerson Fittipaldi at the wheel.
McLaren, which enjoyed its heyday in the 1980s under Ron Dennis and with Alan Prost and Ayrton Senna at the helm, reigned as the strongest team in F1 for nearly a decade until the early 1990s.

F1 headquarters / organization / related companies.
FOWC, a company that holds the commercial rights to F1, was founded in 2011 and is one of the core companies of the "Formula One Group". It holds all the commercial rights to F1 that "FOA (The Formula One Administration Ltd)" held for 14 years from 1996, and the F1 logo, as well as "Formula 1", "Formula One", and "F1" are all registered trademarks held by FOWC.
The FOWC holds a seat on the FIA's international motorsport decision-making body, the WMSC, and the F1 Commission, and when the term "commercial rights holder" is used in F1, it often refers to the FOWC.
Many people consider FOWC to be the entity of F1, or sometimes they think of F1 Group and FOWC as essentially the same or similar concepts, leaving aside the concept of governance structure.

A city circuit designed for America's first F1 night race.
The Las Vegas Strip Circuit, built in Las Vegas, a representative entertainment city in Paradise, Nevada, USA, is an urban circuit designed for the first F1 night race in the United States. It was built in 2023 with a layout that runs through the "Las Vegas Strip," the most famous street in Las Vegas.
In the first F1 Grand Prix held at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit in November 2023, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc took pole position, and after many twists and turns, Max Verstappen, who showed the strongest form of the 2023 season, was crowned the winner.

A one-off Grand Prix held at Silverstone in 2020.
The chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had a huge impact on the Formula One Championship, and F1 has been working to revive abolished Grands Prix or hastily create one-off events to overcome the crisis that threatened the championship's existence.
The 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, held in August 2020 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Formula One Championship, was one of the one-off Grand Prix held to overcome this crisis.
Following the Red Bull Ring hosting two Grands Prix at the same venue for the season opener and the second round, Silverstone Circuit hosted back-to-back races at the same venue for the British Grand Prix in the fourth round and the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix in the fifth round.
The 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, which started with Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas on pole position, was won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Publisher's Review
★ Introducing the 'Grand Prix Black Book' series

Many people are interested in cars, racing cars, and F1.
But when it comes to even the slightest bit of depth, it feels too difficult and not easy to read.
Existing F1-related books and articles are full of difficult words, but it's difficult to find easily understandable explanations.
On the other hand, articles that cover topics that are too easy are often too easy to be helpful when needed.

The Black Book series is a series of F1 knowledge books that explain F1-related information, which was perceived as difficult, as easily as possible, but not in too much depth.
If you read the Black Book series, which consists of more than 10 volumes, one volume per topic, you will feel that it is quite 'easy to read' and that concepts that were not well organized are neatly organized.

Rather than providing basic information to complete laymen, the Black Book series provides more in-depth information and knowledge for those who already have some knowledge of F1.
Although it may be easy and simple compared to in-depth specialized books, it will be an unprecedented attempt as a motorsports/racing car knowledge book for intermediate users.

※ Notice: We would like to inform you that part of the 'C' in the dictionary-style index text 'ABC' on the right page side of the book is not visible.

★ Encyclopedia of F1 terms to check out when you're curious

Knowing F1 terminology makes F1 and motorsports more fun.
This book explains 1,111 terms related to F1, motorsports, F1 drivers, F1-related people, F1 teams, F1 headquarters/organization/related companies, F1 circuits, and F1 Grand Prix.
After completing the explanation of terms, the tenth chapter is prepared as an index, which is the most suitable part for the purpose of this book, which is to "find explanations of terms."
I think the tenth chapter will be the first place you look when you're trying to look up a new word or term you're curious about.
The final appendix contains a table summarizing some of the important records and changes in F1.
For those who are new to F1, this will help you understand its not-so-short history.
