Elegant and exciting women's soccer
Description
Book Introduction
“Because soccer is fun above all else, Seriously, this is freaking awesome.” A hyper-individualist's struggle on the ground A strong solidarity of women standing on a tilted playing field Born with chewy sentences and soft humor #Authentic #Life #Sports #Women #Daily Essay There are people here who like soccer. And there are women who play soccer. Huh? That's strange? It's not strange. Of course, a person who likes soccer and a woman who plays soccer may be the same person. The new writer Kim Hornby's full-fledged sports essay, "Elegant and Exhilarating Women's Soccer," is reminiscent of British soccer enthusiast Nick Hornby, known for "Fever Pitch," and is a story about women who love soccer and are crazy about playing it themselves. It's a story about people who build muscle because they want to be good at soccer, and cut their hair short because it's too much of a hassle to play soccer. And of course, this is your story of knowingly or unknowingly missing opportunities to do so. The moment you encounter Kim Hon-bi's sentences, which are as elegant as a roving shot and as exhilarating as overlapping, anyone will want to run. It might already be running. Elegant and refreshing. |

Into the book
First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my team, my colleagues, and the best players in my heart.
Let's run together for a long time without hurting a single bone or ligament.
-Summer 2018, Kim Hon-bi
When most female soccer fans, including myself, type 'soccer' into the search bar in their heads, the images that pop up are probably things like a comeback goal scored by a certain player in a certain game in a certain year, the moment when the team they support wins the championship, or an unfortunate injury to a favorite player.
On the other hand, for these 'soccer-playing women' who rarely watch other people's soccer, the things that come to mind are probably things like the first goal they scored, the painful mistakes they made during the game, the day their team won a comeback, and their team uniform.
There is only myself and the team I belong to in it.
Without any room for any famous player from any professional soccer team to interfere.
Women whose bodies are filled with only the experiences that come from them and are engraved in relation to 'soccer'.
Oh, come to think of it, this is cool in its own way!
--- p.44
“Eun-jin, run! Run!”
The argument's thoughts were different.
Just as she was about to advance towards the opposing team's goal, and two men's defenders were running towards her, she turned again and ran the ball back in front of man number two.
And then I faked in the same direction and knocked him away again.
It happened even more quickly than before.
Wow, my goodness.
I never thought it would happen, but she really went back and did it again. What a scary woman.
A woman who is like a knife to her forehead.
Our fearsome Kkandetokka now ran forward without hesitation.
Other defenders quickly followed the captain, but it was not enough.
She even easily shook it off and went to the goal and shot directly.
It was a perfect shot.
That was a lobbing shot, a perfect lobbing shot.
--- p.58
And now, the overlapping was just beginning to happen in my mind.
For the first time since I started playing soccer, I have something resembling a goal.
Just practicing inside kicks, outside dribbling, turns, trapping, and lifting was enough for me, but the thoughts that crossed my mind were, "I want to play there too," and "I want to go to a real match soon."
To be honest, for me, who has only been playing soccer for less than half a year, whether it was a practice match or an official match, it felt like our team's business, but also someone else's business.
But for the first time, I could imagine myself in that position.

“Oh my, Honbi! What’s going on? What’s going on? Hey, you’ve got a sore on your calf! You’ve been playing soccer for a while now, so your legs are starting to get muscular! Unnie, look at his legs!”
“Wow, it’s real! There’s a mole on Honbi’s calf!”
The line was briefly disrupted by Yunja, who was receiving it from the side, and the team members who heard it and insisted on coming to see my calves.
The argument that it should be controlled also ran along saying “Where, where?”
No, what the heck is this… … .
The person who should be more surprised than anyone else is me!
--- p.156
This day was a little different.
Clearly, even though the magic time was over and the lights had gone out, some world continued to exist in my mind.
Just like the stories of the active days of the trio and the arguments that continued on the way back in the car.
This time, we heard stories of their bravery in various competitions.
Everyone was very excited.
The women in the story sparkled as much as the women telling the story.
The conversation never stopped, and unlike the way there, there were hardly any cars on the way back, so I was a little impatient.
Now that I know a little about the time they spent to shine so brightly, I desperately hoped that tonight, spent in the car, would not end abruptly before the stories they proudly told, drunk on the afterglow of the soccer game, would end, like Cinderella at 11:59.

Publisher's Review
Elegant lob shot
One day, Kim Hon-bi, a hyper-individualist, finds himself tying his soccer shoelaces.
Kim Hon-bi, a total beginner who is quick on his feet but thinks a lot.
As expected, he ends up being thrown into a practice match on his first day of joining the team... ... From the angry curse of the senior team's grandfather (one of his legs will be broken) after being blocked by a rookie's man-mark, to the chilling words of the captain who takes the place of Honbi, the person involved, and says, "Are you going to pick a fight with a rookie so cruelly? Are you going to live this cruelly?"
Mr. Hornby, everything is new, amazing and awesome.
The girls, who were only allowed to play kickball or dodgeball, come together for various reasons to practice kicking, pass the ball, score a goal, and celebrate.
Because soccer is fun and I like soccer.
But to some, it still seems strange for a woman to play soccer.
If the other person is a woman, it is natural to imagine that there will be a man who insists on teaching her soccer, even if she is a former national team member.
How would our former women's soccer player react in front of Man 1 and Man 2 next to him, who say, "You could have just broken it once, why did you break it twice or three times?" Surely... after breaking it twice or three times, he'd lob the ball?
Overlapping with aplomb
Kim Hon-bi, who has consistently claimed to be an ultra-individualist, has become a member of the soccer team, paying attention to her older sisters and listening to their concerns.
And to become a more confident member, I practice and practice hard.
I silently practice the inside kick and follow the coach's instructions with all my might to dribble while looking forward.
Even he doesn't hide his desire for the ultimate goal in soccer, 'goals'.
Despite his lack of skill, Mr. Honbi discovered a way: rebounding! He also calls it "picking up food."
That's what Chicharito and Inzaghi are good at.
During his time at Manchester United, Park Ji-sung also benefited from Ronaldo's free kicks without spin several times.
Kim Hon-bi, who has made up his mind, goes up to the attacking zone for every corner kick and tries to get a rebound.
I lace up my soccer shoes, dreaming of the day when I can overlap with confidence.
Sometimes it even creates a scene that is close to a goal.
Then one day, due to team circumstances, Mr. Honby is assigned to play goalkeeper... Will the author's wish to end this book with a goal-scoring scene be fulfilled? Surely... his debut goal won't be an own goal, right?
