What is the Newbery Award and the Newbery Collection?

The Newbery Award is a children's literature award presented annually by the American Library Association to the author who has made the greatest contribution to the development of American children's literature.
This award, which began in 1922, boasts the highest authority and history, so much so that it is called the “Nobel Prize of Children’s Books.”
The judging criteria are as strict as the history and authority of the award, and the judging panel carefully evaluates the book's thematic awareness, depth of information, sophistication of the story, and appropriateness of characters and writing style to determine the winner.

The "Newbery Collection," published by Longtail Books, is a series of English original texts that have been carefully selected from among Newbery Medal-winning works and famous works by Newbery Medal-winning authors, and reborn as customized language textbooks suitable for English language learning in Korea.

Structure of this book

The "Newbery Collection" is a series of original English books that have been carefully selected from Newbery Medal and Honor winners, as well as famous works by Newbery Award-winning authors, and have been reborn as optimal textbooks for Korean English learners.

Wayside School series
The Wayside School series is based on author Louise Sachar's experiences working as a teaching assistant at Hillside Elementary School in California for credit.
The students there reportedly called Louis the Yard Teacher.
The main characters in the series are named after children Lewis met at Hillside Elementary School, and there is also a character named Lewis, the playground teacher, who reflects the author himself.
Wayside School was originally planned to be a one-story building with 30 classrooms, but was built as a 30-story building with one classroom on the first floor.
(The construction company that built the school said it was very sorry.) The main characters in the book are 30 children from a class on the 30th floor, and they are all strange and eccentric.
With each chapter filled with quirky, strange, and sometimes surreal events, the Wayside School series has captivated elementary school students across America.
The series was selected for the IRA-CBC Children's Choice Awards, where children vote for their favorite books, and has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.
It was also produced as a TV animation series and is very popular.
