Dictionary of English Expressions in American Dramas _ 565

Publisher's Review
Why doesn't the mid-season craze die down?

The mega-hit mid-season craze that used to sweep us like a storm has now entered the Warring States period.
Starting with "Friends," various American dramas such as "The Sex and the City," "Desperate Housewives," and the scientific investigation drama "CSI" swept over us like a tsunami, and after a brief lull, "Prison Break" and "Spartacus" became the talk of the town again.
Since then, great shows like “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Good Wife,” “Breaking Bad,” “Modern Family,” “The Walking Dead,” and even the disappointing final season of “The Game of Thrones” have continued the trend and continue to entertain viewers.

There are several reasons behind this mid-level craze.
First, Btv, LGU+TV, which includes Netflix, KT Olleh TV, and various cable channels allow you to watch many American dramas with 'original sound + subtitles' without dubbing.
In today's society, where practical English conversation is emphasized over test-oriented English study, the fact that dramas are shorter than movies and offer the ability to experience American culture up close along with the fun and vivid English language strongly attracted us to American dramas.
Finally, a cafe specializing in American mead has become a fun place where many people can passionately exchange news and stories about American mead in English.
Of course, even though it's a dark path, the high quality of the mid and the easy access to downloads shouldn't be overlooked. ^^

Why and how should I study English through the media?

Even though we know that studying English through media is good, the reality is not easy.
Unless it's an English drama for Koreans, the fast-paced English dialogue and ignorance of American culture often lead people to watch Korean subtitles, and ultimately, the pace of improvement in English skills is slower than the time invested.
As mentioned in my previous work, "Catch Up on All NEW Mid-English in One Breath," you need to know a lot of expressions to be able to hear them a lot, and only by repeating such situations can you fully experience the meaning and usage of English expressions without having to go to the United States.
So, in 『Mentos' All New Dictionary of Mid-English Expressions You Can Trust』, we tried to include as many mid-English sentences as possible, focusing on the most frequently used expressions.
Volumes 1 and 2 together contain as many expressions, explanations, and examples as possible, spanning nearly 1,100 pages.

However, just watching American TV shows won't improve your English skills.
First of all, it is best to become familiar with many of the expressions that appear in the drama.
In this regard, you should be fully familiar with the expressions included in the 『All New American English Expression Dictionary A_L by Mentos, a specialized American English publisher』 published this time.
All expressions and examples included in this book were written and modified by a local Writers' Group in the United States to be as close to the American expressions as possible, and they were all recorded in native voices, so if you read and listen to this book several times, you will start to understand American expressions that you had not heard before.

Of course, many sentences that are close to or come from mid-level expressions are ungrammatical.
The subject is omitted, the verb "to be" is omitted, and the pronunciation is diverse because people from all walks of life appear, and some expressions are also unusual. So, unlike a standard English conversation textbook, this book is a copy of the American scene, so I tried to reflect those aspects as much as possible.
So, there is no need to feel frustrated because the sentences are a bit strange and the pronunciation is a bit strange.
First, you can increase the number of things you hear one by one.
I am confident that if you make it more fun and interact with each other, your English listening and speaking skills will improve significantly.
After finishing writing the manuscript, my feeling is that 'I included a lot, but I also left out a lot.'
Because Mid should be viewed as just American life itself.
I would like to express my gratitude to Seongdeok Seo, who, along with E&C, was a die-hard mid-level reader and stayed up all night to help us publish this thick book.
