100 Scenes with Wine
100 Scenes with Wine
Description
Book Introduction
What wine does Mia drink in her dreams in "La La Land"? What about the premium red wine Tony Stark drinks alone in "Iron Man" and the white wine he prepares for his lover, Pepper? If you've ever wondered, "What wine is he drinking in that scene?" while watching a movie, this book will answer your question.
Sommelier Jeong-seon Eom, who was also a film student majoring in directing, and wine journalist Du-hwan Bae have collected '100 movie scenes featuring wine' and explain in detail what the wine is and what wine knowledge you need to know in those scenes.
As befitting authors with a deep sense of mission to share information as much as their love for film and wine, they have compiled a vast amount of information on 'wine in films' into one volume through persistent research.

In "Kingsman," Harry and Valentine first fight over a message in wine before their bloody duel, Marlon Brando keeps his perfect shot of liquor by his side in "The Godfather," and just like in "Deep Impact," where he drinks a glass of wine on his last day as the world apocalypses, every "wine scene" in the world has a funny story behind it.
The book also includes a comprehensive compilation of wine knowledge and wine lists from representative 'wine movies' that are must-sees on the way from beginner to enthusiast, such as "Sideways," "Burgundy, A Life Found in Wine," "A Walk in the Clouds," "Wine Miracle," and "Time to Open Wine."
Anyone who loves cinema and wine will find this book a must-have.

Into the book
Salvador Dali sat down across the street and ordered a bottle of red wine from the waiter.
The wine served at Dali's table was Chateau Haut-Brion.

As the setting is Paris, I felt excited and happy seeing the wines that frequently appear, but the highlight was definitely the appearance of Chateau Haut-Brion.
Just saying, "Here's a bottle of red wine!" and they handed me a bottle of Château Haut-Brion. What a thrilling time for wine lovers! I thought as I watched this scene.
If I ever get the chance to time travel, I will never miss it.

The movie that actress Mia passionately loves is Casablanca.
Homage scenes to the main character, Ingrid Bergman, are revealed throughout the film. (...) Homage to Casablanca can also be found in the camera shooting techniques intended by the director.
It's Mia in the champagne.
Very early on, she attends a pool party with her friends.
There, Mia's image is reflected in the champagne filling the glass.
The champagne that appeared at this time was Veuve Clicquot.
This is the champagne that Ingrid Bergman famously said in Casablanca, “I’ll stay with Veuve Clicquot.”

--- p.263, from “61. ‘La La Land’, The Wine Mia Drinks in Her Dream”

The main character Jenny's mother, Robin, also faced her final moments.
When she realizes she can't get into the bunker, she decides to take matters into her own hands.
Robin takes out an elegant dress and dresses herself up with care.
I play music that brings back memories and look at photos of my husband and daughter from when they were young, reminiscing.
And on the table before her is the wine that will be her last in life.
This is Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1993.
The story of how Chateau Mouton Rothschild, one of the five major chateaux in Bordeaux, France, rose to the ranks of the First Growth is a famous anecdote among wine lovers.
The Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés, which classifies 61 châteaux from 1st to 5th growths, has remained unchanged for nearly 200 years, with only two exceptions, since its creation in 1855.
Château Mouton Rothschild is the place that has brought about significant changes to the classification system that has been maintained as firmly as an impregnable castle.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed in Seonghyeon's taste in wine in this scene.
As explained above, Beringer is certainly a great winery, but the Beringer Founders Estate Cabernet Sauvignon featured in the film is not a premium wine made at the winery, but rather a wine that can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
This means that it is not a wine that can be stored in a wine bar for two years and then drunk.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with drinking it like that, but I wondered what it would have been like if Seonghyeon had chosen a wine that would have improved in aroma and taste after two years through bottle aging.
Then, wouldn't Seong-hyeon's wine taste in the film have seemed even more distinctive? If you're choosing from Beringer Winery, the Private Reserve is a good option.
Although I felt a sense of regret, Eun-ju, who received the wine in 2000 in the movie, looked happy drinking Beringer wine.
If so, then the gift of the saint is success.
As for wine, if the taster likes it, that's enough.
--- p.148, from “32. 『Siwol-ae』, Wine Drinking in the Same Space, Different Time”

“So I ate his liver.
“Served with bean dishes and Chianti wine.”
Hannibal's words about cooking the organs of his murdered victims and enjoying them with wine were engraved in my mind.
Why did he choose Chianti among so many wines?
I suspect that the etymology of the grape variety from which the wine is made may have influenced the doctor's choice of Chianti.
Chianti, the representative wine of Tuscany in central Italy and a wine that is always mentioned when talking about Italian wine, is made mainly from the red grape Sangiovese.
The name Sangiovese comes from the Latin Sanguis Jovis, meaning 'blood of Jupiter'.

--- p.111 From “23. The Silence of the Lambs and the Chianti Trauma”

The actual film was shot in Crema, northern Italy, but the word "Somewhere" was used instead of the place name.
I don't want to spoil the feeling, but I'm curious to know what kind of wine you had at Crema.
Crema, a city reminiscent of strong espresso, is located in Lombardy, Italy.
Although often overshadowed by the trendy image of Milan, the city of fashion and finance, Lombardy is also famous for its distinctive wines. (...)
Therefore, it is very likely that the red wine featured in the film is Lombardy wine, specifically wine from the Valtellina region.
Valtellina wine, which is somewhat unfamiliar even to Italian wine lovers, is called the Barolo of Lombardy.
It is a nickname given to it because it produces elegant style red wines mainly from the Nebbiolo grape, which is used to make Barolo.
(...) It is perfect for those who are looking for a new character from Nebbiolo, and the price is also reasonable.
There are small quantities of Valtellina wines imported into Korea, so I would like to recommend them to those who like the Nebbiolo grape.

Publisher's Review
"What wine are they drinking in that scene?"
I was wondering while watching the movie
Collected for wine lovers in the corner of the room
A Guide to Wine in 100 Movies.

What wine does Mia drink in her dream in "La La Land"?
In "Tazza," what wine does Madam Jeong give Goni to instill vanity in him about success?
What is the premium red wine that Tony Stark from "Iron Man" drinks alone and the white wine he prepares for his lover Pepper?
Like in "Julie & Julia," this wine is always included in Boeuf Bourguignon?
Wine lovers were worried about the wine, not Sherlock Holmes, when he was in danger?
Did DiCaprio drink the same wine in "The Great Gatsby" and "Catch Me If You Can?" And he even brought a different case to the after-party?

"It's not about drinking a special wine on a special day, it's about drinking Cheval Blanc."
This is a line from the movie "Sideways," which is considered a bible for wine lovers.
It is also a movie that made fans faint by drinking it from a paper cup at a fast food restaurant on a day when the main character Miles was in the depths of despair.
So what exactly is "Château Cheval Blanc 1961"? Why is everyone, from the protagonist to the audience, so excited about it?

If you've ever wondered while watching a movie, "What wine is that in that scene?", "Why is he drinking that?", or "I want to drink that too," you'll find the answers in this book.
Sommelier Jeong-seon Eom, who was also a film student majoring in directing, and his partner, wine journalist Du-hwan Bae, have collected '100 movie scenes featuring wine' and explain in detail what those wines are and what wine knowledge you need to know in those scenes.
As befitting authors with a deep sense of mission to share information as much as their love for film and wine, they have compiled a vast amount of information on 'wine in films' into one volume through persistent research.
Illustrator Park Lee-su's drawings, written and illustrated in "Spanish Home Cooking Recipes," are included throughout the book, enhancing the atmosphere of scenes featuring wine.
It will be a very interesting read for those who are traveling the world with movies and wine in the corner of their room, and they will get lost in the romance of watching a movie and sipping wine.

I love it so much,
A blissful night of watching a movie and drinking wine.

In movies, wine sometimes represents the characters, creates conflict, and becomes a medium for changing the mood.
In "Kingsman," Harry and Valentine first exchanged a wine-filled message before their bloody fight, and in "The Godfather," Marlon Brando kept his perfect liquor by his side, just like he drank a glass of wine on his last day as the world apocalypse approached in "Deep Impact."
On the other hand, it often appears in scenes of our daily lives where we relax and unwind, like wine.
Every 'wine scene' in the world has an interesting story, whether it's the wine the Intern drinks in first class, the wine they start a conversation with in 'The Grand Budapest Hotel,' the wine Yenicol steals and drinks in 'The Thieves,' or the wine the conman sends in 'Billionaire Boys Club.'
