Description
Book Introduction
The core of the future early childhood education curriculum is digital play!

For children, digital and online are no longer things to avoid; rather, they are essential for helping children grow and develop through child-led digital play.
A lively, hands-on, open-ended lesson that teachers and parents unfamiliar with digital play can easily access, understand, and utilize.

We are now living in an era of digital transformation.
It is difficult to think of the lives of children, let alone adults, without considering digital technology.
These changes have led to a demand for future-oriented educational innovation in early childhood education for young children who will have to survive in a changing world. Furthermore, the demand for new roles for teachers, who are the practical agents of education, has become an urgent issue.

From 2021 to 2022, we were selected as a "Future-oriented Curriculum Pilot Kindergarten" by the Ministry of Education, and we ran a future-oriented pilot kindergarten under the theme of "Operating a Child-Centered and Play-Oriented Smart Kindergarten Using AI and Online Content." The results of this work, which contain the experiences and know-how gained while operating the kindergarten, were published in a book.
This book, based on a child-centered, play-centered curriculum that aligns with the future curriculum, explores the "encounter of play and digital" to develop child-led digital play, and even includes the process of play expanding according to the flow of play of children that moves between plugged and unplugged modes.
The theories and practical examples of digital-based play support presented in this book will provide practical help to teachers and mothers in charge of early childhood education in strengthening their digital capabilities.

Publisher's Review
“The creation of new things is achieved not through intelligence, but through the instinct to play driven by inner need.
“Creative people love to play with what they love.”
_Carl Gustav Jung

In 2016, the Go match between AlphaGo and Lee Sedol, 9th dan, was an event that sparked explosive interest and influence in artificial intelligence worldwide.
Countless people have witnessed the capabilities of artificial intelligence surpassing those of humans, experiencing a sense of wonder at the "capabilities of artificial intelligence." Meanwhile, research into the scope and limitations of what artificial intelligence can do has led to a redefinition of the talent needed for future society.
While there have been significant changes in the years since COVID-19, there is no doubt that the future society in which today's children will grow into adults will be transformed beyond our current understanding.
What kind of education is appropriate for the young children who will become the leaders of tomorrow's society? And what skills do the early childhood educators responsible for their education need to teach these future leaders? Will they be able to teach them effectively? Numerous questions have arisen.
To answer these questions, this book, “Digital Play in the Classroom: The More You Know, the More Fun It Gets,” was published.

Digital Native Toddlers and Teachers Needing Digital Competency Enhancement

The use of digital media is very natural in the lives of infants who are surrounded by a digital environment from birth.
Of course, there are concerns about the negative effects of excessive digital device immersion in early childhood, but young children who have already sensorily accepted digital technology and have used various digital toys, including smartphones, as part of their daily lives are digital natives.
In contrast, teachers who teach them are in a situation where they have to relearn digital devices that children have naturally accepted through learning.
There may be individual differences in accepting digital devices, but it may be slower and more difficult for children to accept them compared to infants.
Moreover, considering that new programs and devices are released every day, teachers are at an even greater disadvantage.
To alleviate the burden on these teachers, the book "Digital Play in the Classroom: The More You Know, the More Fun It Be," which contains theories and practical examples of digital-based play support, was published.

Until the publication of "Digital Play in the Classroom: The More You Know, the More Fun It Gets"

This book focuses on the operational case of the 'Future-oriented Curriculum' implemented at Incheon Talent University Kindergarten from 2021 to 2022.
In line with Incheon Talent University's 'AI Frontier Policy' to respond to the changes of the 4th Industrial Revolution era in 2020, we first attempted to operate an 'AI-leading kindergarten that fosters the capabilities of future talents', and from 2021 to 2022, we were selected as a 'Future-oriented curriculum pilot kindergarten' by the Ministry of Education.
Afterwards, we operated a future-oriented pilot kindergarten under the theme of “Operating a child-centered, play-centered smart kindergarten using AI and online content,” and published the results containing the play cases and know-how acquired there.

The Use of "Digital Play in the Classroom: The More You Learn, the More Fun It Gets" in Early Childhood Education

This book was written with the mindset of building a house by laying bricks one by one, starting from small things, so that teachers who are new to digital play support can more easily approach, understand, and utilize it. It will be a good guide for teachers who are trying to support young children's digital play for the first time.
Furthermore, case studies of child-led play flows based on edutech play based on a child-centered and play-centered curriculum will help cultivate the digital play support capabilities of teachers in the field, and will also establish a new awareness among teachers regarding the necessity of digital competency and digital literacy education for young children.
