Understanding Infant and Toddler Development
Description
Book Introduction
Infant and child development is the study of all aspects of human growth and change from conception to infancy.
This field of infant and toddler development is a broader field that deals with all the changes in the process that we experience throughout life, that is, it is a part of developmental psychology or human development.
This book covers development from prenatal to infancy, organized by topic, including physical development, cognitive development, language development, emotional development, and gender role development.
It is divided into 7 parts and 20 chapters, and is organized into the following sections: Basics of Understanding Infant and Toddler Development, Prenatal Development and Birth, Biological Process of Infant and Toddler Development, Cognitive Process of Infant and Toddler Development, Socio-Emotional Process of Infant and Toddler Development, Infant and Toddler Development and Social Environment, and Developmental Disorders in Infants and Toddlers.
In particular, it describes in detail the childcare of infants and toddlers, and also examines the characteristics of child research since the 20th century.
Additionally, we attempted to introduce as many domestic and international studies published in each field of infant and toddler development as possible.
The areas that have been particularly emphasized and supplemented in this fourth edition are those related to new domestic and international research conducted over the past six years since the publication of the third edition in 2018.
We have tried to introduce as many recent studies published domestically and internationally in each field of infant and toddler development as possible.
In particular, in Chapter 2, ‘Theory of Child Development,’ Bandura’s term ‘forethought’ was introduced, and several methods of applying Vygotsky’s theory to the educational field were suggested.
Chapter 18, ‘Infant and Toddler Care,’ covers integrated education (childcare), and Chapter 19, ‘Behavioral Disorders,’ covers ‘Video Syndrome,’ media and screen time.
