Book Introduction
This third edition of the textbook consists of 7 parts and 66 chapters, and its contents are summarized as follows.
Part 1, Child Development and Psychopathology (Chapters 1-5), covers the concepts of mental health and psychopathology, developmental perspectives and approaches, neurobiological understanding and environmental-experiential understanding, and a summary of the integrated understanding of normal development and psychopathology by developmental stage.
Part 2, Childhood Mental Disorders (Chapters 6-27), details the diagnosis and treatment of 22 official child mental disorders included in DSM-5-TR and ICD-11, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and anxiety disorders.
Part 3, Psychosocial Issues (Chapters 28-37), discusses the relationship between child mental health and social problems in our society (parenting chaos, child abuse, sexual abuse, divorce and remarriage, multicultural/immigrant families, school refusal, school violence, suicide and self-harm, digital environment, disasters, etc.) that are closely related to child development and psychopathology, although they are not official diagnoses.
Part 4, Assessment and Diagnosis (Chapters 38-42), examines the implementation and interpretation of developmental/psychological/medical assessments and ecological/environmental assessments of children in clinics and various child-helping activity settings.
Part 5, Treatment and Prevention (Chapters 43-52), covers treatment planning, medication, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, group therapy, parent education/counseling, family therapy, environmental therapy, prevention and early intervention, and emerging treatment techniques in detail.
Part 6, Collaboration with Specialized Fields Related to Child Psychiatry (Chapters 53-63), provides a detailed introduction from various aspects, including consultation and linkage with hospitals/schools/communities, collaboration with pediatrics and adolescent medicine, child clinical psychology, child welfare, child psychiatric nursing, special education, and child educational psychology, as well as pediatric forensic psychiatry and policies related to child mental disorders.
Part 7: Past, Present, and Future of Child Psychiatry (Chapters 64-66) covers child psychiatry training and medical ethics in child psychiatry. Finally, the history of international and Korean child psychiatry is examined and the future is anticipated.
