Publisher's Review
In our daily lives, we experience various social situations, meet people, and form relationships.
While some people are quick to greet strangers and start conversations, others need a lot of time to greet others, start conversations, and build and maintain relationships.
Social skills are needed to build good relationships with people and to act appropriately at times and places.
Social skills can be acquired naturally in daily life, but they also require gradual learning.
Moreover, the development of social skills is influenced not only by external environmental factors such as the nuclear family, the development of digital devices, and COVID-19, but also by internal factors such as introverted or extroverted temperament.
As social distancing becomes the norm, both children and adults are increasingly concerned about forming and maintaining relationships with others, and lack of social skills and sociability is no longer a challenge only experienced by a select few.
We've also been teaching social skills classes in the field for a long time, and we've always wanted to have activity materials that we could systematically use with children.
Then, I came across this book, and I became convinced that it would be a useful resource for teaching social skills while conducting programs with children, reorganizing it to fit the domestic culture and situation.

Through various activities, we aim to become competent individuals in the groups, societies, and cultures we belong to by making friends, listening to others, maintaining conversations, and understanding social rules appropriate to the time and place.
Chapter 1 is comprised of activities that teach you essential information to improve your social skills by learning what social skills are and examining your own social skills. Chapter 2 is comprised of activities that teach you how to talk to others, such as starting a conversation, asking questions, and maintaining a conversation.
Chapter 3 introduces how to acquire the skills necessary to communicate with others, and Chapter 4 consists of activities on how to know yourself, find friends who are compatible with you, and build friendships.
Chapter 5 covers how to maintain friendships with friends, Chapter 6 covers the skills needed to build and maintain good relationships with others at school and outside of school, and Chapter 7 includes activities related to etiquette at home and at your friends' homes, as well as how to behave in other people's homes.
The programs we introduce are not just for professionals; they are activities that parents and children can do together at home. Rather than emphasizing the program's purpose as a social skills program, they are designed to help children naturally acquire social skills and improve their sociability through fun activities.
It is designed so that you can engage in activities like play with familiar people in a comfortable environment without feeling stressed or burdened about improving your social skills.
We hope to share a message of encouragement as we take the first step toward becoming competent individuals who adapt well to social situations, participate effectively in social conversations, and have no difficulty communicating with others.
